Art Q3 Reflection

This quarter in art, I feel as though it went subsequently okay. I feel as though I accomplished drawing a straight line, and improved my art drawing skills. If I could do this project again, I would get a different perspective for the whole thing. I think based off her picture, Yafang's drawing was really successful because her drawing is perfectly centered and captures the room perfectly. One point perspective, I learned is really diifficult, and also makes so many drawings really 3D.

1.) I felt like I deserve a 90-95 because I think that I have improved drastically in my drawing skills. I drew the design on the back wall and I drew stuff on each of the walls.

2.) I would add more to the right wall and not leave everything to last minute.

3.) I think that Tajnia's was the most successful one because of how much detail she put into the drawing. She shaded in the blinds and created an beautiful table. The stools were sketched but had an great originality to them. Nice project overall.

4.) That it is hard at first but easy after a while doing it. I learned that your lines should always point to your vanishing point or your drawing will be off a little.

  • a. What do you feel like you accomplished with your final drawing?  (keeping the rubric in mind. 20pts. - back wall, 20pts. side wall, 20pts. ceiling, 20pts. floor, 20pts. table/chair = 100pts.

I feel like I have accomplished with your final drawing a lot of new art skills when I was drawing. The art skills that I accomplished are learning how to draw from a person’s vision point perspective. Overall, I think that I should get a low B because I tried on the windows and wall but I did not have enough time I think could have been a little better.

  • b. What would you change or differently if you could do this project again?

If I had to change or do something differently or if I could do this project again I  would take the project home and work on it there so I could have time to do it I hopefully finish it correctly.

  • c. Find a drawing on the wall that you think is successful. Describe it. Why is it successful?

I think that Ryan’s drawing is successful it has everything that is required and for extra he even colored it in.

  • d. What did you learn about one point perspective?

I learned alot about one point perspective. First of all, when I came to this school I did not know what one point perspective was. I learned that one point perspective is a type of drawing that has a single vanishing point, usually  directly opposite the viewer's eye and usually on the horizon line.

I eel like I did good just that I could have worked on my floor and stools a bit more.
  • b. What would you change or differently if you could do this project again?
I would draw darker so you could actually see the picture.
  • c. Find a drawing on the wall that you think is successful. Describe it. Why is it successful?
Cindy's was successful because she drew dark and her stools were great.
  • d. What did you learn about one point perspective?
It is easier than it sounds.

Throughout this year I wanted to focus on widening my art style. Drawing not only what I thought up, or the art that was assigned to me but your average ordinary things that one may not think to draw.
I also told myself my capstone and senior project will focus on displaying my artistic style.
This portfolio is an arrangement of some of the work I may have done on my own time or the concepts that were given to us during my art class this year.
I used mediums I was unfamiliar with and tried to wrap my brain around colors. My traditional style focuses on black and white pencil drawing. There are a number of display in this presentation that use color well and I hope you enjoy them as I did while creating them.

I would also like to note the art isn't just what we make within a class room. In cities like Philadelphia there are group of people that partake in street art. Whether that's putting stickers, wheat pastes or spray down a building artists are able to make art, their city being their canvas. I am fortunate enough to know many people within this small artist enclave. You may see some street art within this portfolio and all I ask is you keep an open mind about what you see and why these people do what they do.

I think I did pretty good job on the final drawing. I followed directions, but struggled a little. I feel I should get a A. I would fact that I struggles on the ceiling and should have added more to my drawing. I think Olivia Cooper's drawing is really good. She followed the directions and showed much detail. I learned that drawing is not just based on what you see, but based on how you see it.

I included all of the necessary components to my drawings.
  • b. What would you change or differently if you could do this project again?
I would erase some smudge marks to make my drawing look neater and more presentable.
  • c. Find a drawing on the wall that you think is successful. Describe it. Why is it successful?
I really enjoyed Ryan's drawing because it was so colorful and creative. Adding color made it unique compared to others around the room.
  • d. What did you learn about one point perspective?
I learned that one point perspective, if applied to a drawing, can make shapes and pictures look very realistic. I would have never been able to draw something like this without the knowledge of one point perspective. Moreover, I learned about orthagonals, the vanishing point, and the three types of lines.

This quarter I got accepted to the Rhode Island School of Design, the top design school in the world. I'm pretty insanely excited and I'm not totally sure how I got in but somehow I did. Along with the good though, I lost my laptop with most of my design work on it, some files were backed up, but many were not. The work shown above is what I've done physically and after loosing my laptop. Recently I've been very interested in Wes Anderson's films and have used them as inspirations for my work.

Artist Statement
This quarter, I decided to focus on the meditation of letting things happen. When the inevitable strikes, it’s a magical state of mind I go through, because I created it. I never like to see things for what they really are, only because I hate reality, so instead, I see the message of the artistry these things carry. With an inclusion of the natural elements of the world, and the natural elements of myself, I find what it is I truly love about art come alive. Art is never an area of restrictions; it should liberate you. Liberation… that’s what I wanted to feel, I guess.

I enjoyed creating these new pieces. Each of them are something special to me because I have not done these types of drawings in these unique methods before. For my abstract piece, I just went with the flow by keeping my pencil on the paper and just drawing even when I was not sure where I was going next. For my self-portrait, it was very interesting drawing with india ink because I've never used it before. I was surprised by the fact that it was not as hard as I was expecting and it also turned out good in my opinion. Not only that piece but I thought my value piece turned out pretty cool too because I knew that it was going to be hard trying to have the perfect shading. However, it wasn't that bad and I liked the outcome of my work. In the basic shape project, it was fascinating how I had to draw my piece. It was yet another new experience for me to draw shapes to create an object. Then, for my final piece, the animal sketch, I really enjoyed applying two of the recent skills, shading/values and basic shapes, I'd learned to create this piece.

For me, the projects in Quarter 3 were not only enjoyable to do but different and unique. The hardest project in my opinion was the value drawing but with practice I was able to master it. Much like last Quarter, I didn't sacrifice creativity or practicality. My favorite project was the Basic Shapes. I liked it because I was able to turn mere shapes into something more. I gave full effort into this quarter and I hope it is reflected in my work.

Quarter 3 Art Portfolio

I feel that this quarter was the most expeditious.  I was able to break out of my comfort zone this quarter, especially with the animal sketch.  I never attempted to draw something that was not fictitious or an animate object.  With that said, I am proud of my animal sketch even though it does not live up to its full potential.  I plan to make more animal sketches in the future on my own time.

As for goals for next quarter, I want to enjoy to moment when creating my art work.  I do not want it to feel like work necessarily because it gives it a negative connotation.  I also want to keep an open mind about the projects we have.  I used this approach this quarter, I feel good about my art and hope to feel the same next quarter.

Quarter #3 Art Portfolio

Quarter #3 Art was a little different from the first two quarters. The reason is because I tried new things. I made sure to give my absolute best effort at 100% of the time. I feel this may or may not have been my best quarter because like I said I was trying new things. But look on the bright side, I said this in the last two quarters and I'm going to say it again. What you make/draw is art. Everything in the world is art.

So for this quarter the assignments we had to do was a 2-D drawing consisting any shapes with different shadings. A self portrait of myself by using india ink (black paint). A value still life drawing by showing the differences of pencil shading of when to use light or dark shadings. A basic shape drawing to give you the understanding of how to draw the outline (or body) of a picture. Last project was an animal sketch of basically any animal you want.

My favorite projects of this quarter was the basic shape and animal sketch. I say this because the basic shapes project gave a better understanding of the animal sketch. In the animal sketch, you can clearly find places to use basic shapes to help you sketch the animal in more detail. The basic shape project didn't make you do your picture in full detail, but it gave advice for the next project. I enjoyed working on my projects every time I got the chance! I seriously cannot wait for the 4th quarter!

When it came to the art work that I turned in this quarter, I would have to say that I was fairly proud of the effort and the quality that I put into each of the drawings. Through each of the drawings, I wanted to display a theme in order to show my organization. I felt as though I was able to spend more time on most of the topics to be able to focus more on the quality that I put into my art. This would definitely have to be better than the last quarter and so I do feel as though I have improved. I do feel proud of my work and hope to have the same feeling next quarter, especially so that I am able to end on a good note.

Emalyn Bartholomew Q3 Art

I was really excited about the work this quarter. I would say that my work is fairly reflective of my work ethic this quarter. I'm not, by any means, a person with a gift for art, but I do enjoy it, and I did enjoy many of our projects this quarter. I chose to copy the artist Picasso, because he is the first artist that really grabbed my attention when I was younger. I also love his sketches of animals, so I chose to remake both his dog and his cat for that assignment. My mosaic was also a really fun project, as it was the first time I had attempted to make one. The wire sculpture was way out of my comfort zone, but I definitely enjoyed trying to manipulate the paperclips into the shapes I wanted.

Melanie Harrington Q3 Art Portfolio

As an artist I try really hard to use the art to my advantage. Art for me is very therapeutic and I especially enjoy painting. This quarter, the only thing I had the chance to work on was a self portrait painted with india ink due to personal absences from school. Each time I visited the art room I noticed a difference in my mood. Art makes me feel alive and it takes away my stress.Throughout my art I try to show how I am feeling, whether that' scribbling on a piece of paper, or writing song lyrics down, or even using calming brush strokes to complete a painting. I enjoy being part of this two day a week art class and look forward to pieces that we will be working on in this upcoming and final quarter of the year.
