1. Negative space is all of the space around the subject of an image. AN example is if you have a picture of a plane flying through the sky, then the subject would be the plane and the negative space would be all of the sky around it.

2. I found negative space in my cut out by tracing each color to use as the subject of either side, and in my drawings by combining different sketches and erasing the boundaries in order to create one solid looking blank spot.

3. It is useful for an artist to be able to see negative space because it allows them to make drawings with a clearer message, and so that they don't end up painting just a blob of prime colors.

4. Negative space is useful in art because it clearly contrasts between the subject and the background.

  • A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)
Negative space is the space in a drawing for which is known as the empty space around a specific message that the author chose to show.

  • B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?
I found the negative space in the first drawing (cut out) by placing the stuff that I knew had to be there. When I say that, I mean that I placed a mirror image for both sides of the drawing. I decided what was missing to complete the image completely and from there found my negative space. For the second drawing (stool) I found my negative space by seeing all the space surrounding the stool, the empty space.
  • C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?
It helps an artist to see in negative space because, there is some sort of story clearly in any photo. Sure not all the space is completed by the drawing, but this makes it more real. This allows the viewer to find the complete photo in real life but on paper. It's extraordinary for the viewer and exactly what the artist would want.
  • D. How is negative space useful in creating art?
Negative space is useful when creating art because it allows the full model of the photo to be shown to the viewer. It allows the viewer to live in that moment, to find their complete story through one small drawing.

Cut-Out Project

WHY
WHY
whyy
whyy
In all likelihood, this is where it ends. The train's last stop is here, and its grand central station has a way of making me feel small. This is where Mrs. Hull realizes I'm legitimately incapable.
In previous works, I had successfully failed to make it good enough to be good, but it was still strange enough to look original.
This time around, I had no such luck.
This cut-out is the construction-paper embodiment of dysfunction. It is the end of my masquerading as a functional artist, and the dawn of my shining ineptitude. Anyone who gazes at these abysmal products would immediately see the clearly guessed, poorly outlined cutouts; they'd see the horribly-colored image of what never, not even on a good day, could appear to be a stool; they would see my terrible skills and they would cry.
Actual artists are spinning in their grave.
My mother majored in Art History. After she sees the terrifying contents of this blog post, I may be forced into finding a new mother.
It was apparent from the start that any artistic visions that had the misfortune to fumble into my brain would never be manifested in any objectively "good" form, but maybe I could at least make real things look mildly real. Or, maybe, I couldn't.
SPOILER: I couldn't.

Negative space is the part of a drawing or photograph that isn't focused on. For example: if the positive space in a picture of a ladder is the ladder itself, the negative space would be the space between the rungs. For another example: this negative space cutout is negative space in my artistic career.

Using the definition of negative space, it was easy to discover where negative space was, or what it was meant to be. I recognized the spaces between the parts of the stools and ladder as negative; I recognized the pink in the right side of the cutout as negative and the black on the left side as negative. My projects don't reflect that gained knowledge, however: No matter the reader's grasp on negative space, it must certainly be difficult to ascertain that I had ascertained that which we were meant to ascertain.

Seeing in negative space helps an artist (don't read as "seeing in negative space helps me," for reasons that have, at this point, been made obvious) to see negative space, as it can better define the focus of a project. I clearly didn't utilize it perfectly; in fact, my art seems to have no focus.

Negative space is useful in creating art, for reasons most exemplified by the following: imagine how cool my art would be if it used negative space well.

In conclusion, I hope the reader finds my abominable "art" to be satisfactory.

Negative Space Cut Out Reflection

1.  Negative space is the empty space around the subject of the piece. When working with artwork there are generally three elements the frame, positive space and negative space.

2.In my cut out of negative space, I differentiated between positive and negative space by looking at the light and dark sections(blue and black) of the template. In my drawing of the table, plant, and the stool, I looked at the shapes the spaces formed between the legs of the table and stool.

3. It can me things easier to draw.

4. It can make drawings and photos look more balanced

Negative Space Project Reflection

1. Negative space is the space either surrounding or between the "subject" of drawing.
2.
a. Well if you look at that drawing(the left) I kinda of didn't. That project servery confused me, and I able to take advantage of the negative potential.
b. I formed around the objects to give them a really distinctive look, but also around the details as well, to really
flesh everything out
3. It really gives birth to a whole new spectrum to worked with, giving the artist options to new styles and deatials that weren't available before.

4. Not only does it give the drawing a really smooth look, it just looks good, and is a design to work with in order
to make something look more surreal or ancient.

Me repugna.

Negative Space

IMAG0121
IMAG0121
IMAG0112
IMAG0112
  • A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)
Negative space is the area or background around the main subject of an image. It can be black or white space, but it can also be the actual background, like a forest or the ocean. It highlights the main subject of the image, and brings the viewer's attention and vision where it is supposed to be. It can also balance out pictures, making them have the right amount of background to go with the subject.

  • B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?
In the cut out, the color that wasn't making the owl was the negative space (right: pink, left: blue), and in the stool drawing, the negative space was the penciled in parts, or the parts drawn in. They weren't the main subject, and helped differentiate between subject and not subject.

  • C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?
Artists can use negative space to highlight parts of their images, as well as make sure the viewer is looking at the right stuff.

  • D. How is negative space useful in creating art?
Negative space can be used in many creative ways. Rather than coloring in what you want the viewer to see, you can color in the stuff that you want the viewer not to focus on. Negative space can also be used to highlight special colors or affects, and therefore bring out the creative stuff.

When I take selfies I try to portray things that are apart of my life. Some of my selfies won't make seem to some people because they don't understand what's going on in my mind. I have a weird and imaginative mind. I know that they say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, so sometimes I try to make my eyes the main attraction of the photo. People have many perceptions of me, some are true and some aren’t true. I try to get people to understand that I’m just different and I do different things. That’s all.

Sometimes I don’t mean anything when I take selfies. I just take them just to take them because I’m bored. Sometimes I don’t really care about what other people think and I want people to know that, which is why my face is always stern when I’m around certain people. However, when I’m with my friends outside of school, there’s another side of me, that people in this school would never see.

Reflection:
  • A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it): There are two kind of spaces in picture. The negative is the background or base. It's the defining trait of some drawings. It helps make things pop.
  • B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?: The background or the black which makes the white or opposite color pop.
  • C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?: Because using negative space makes things more clearly defined.
  • D. How is negative space useful in creating art?: To make things pop and to make things more recognizable

Negative Space

A. Negative space, also known as the white space that goes around an object, can be used to draw the object, too! So instead of having the object be black and the background be white, you can have the object be white and the background be black! It makes it look cool, artsy and can really help a picture look like real life sometimes! It's a popular style of art in which artists use it to create a project that is unique and special.

B. To find negative space, you must first cut out the positive space portions, which are normally darker. Then you must fold it so you can see how it puzzles into each other. But for a drawing, you must draw it in pencil first and then color everything that is not part of the object as one solid color, the positive space. This makes it look like the background is the object, while the real object is the background. You can even make them opposite, like with the owl, so you can see both positive and negative space and compare and contrast them!

C. Because using negative space can make something seem realistic and more interesting to view, describe and study. It makes it look cool, artsy and can really help a picture look like real life sometimes! It's a popular style of art in which artists use it to create a project that is unique and special.

D. Same thing as before! Artists create art (no surprise there), and their goal is to make their art seem realistic and be more interesting to view, describe and study. It makes it look cool, artsy and can really help a picture look like real life sometimes! It's a popular style of art in which artists use it to create a project that is unique and special.

Negative Space

A. Negative space is also referred to as white space. It is the area that the main subject isn't in. It often also brings out the main image. It often has an empty and solid background.

B. I found negative space in my bat through the background and the pieces I cut out. This created the image. In my still life drawing I found negative space by lightly drawing my scissor first and then coloring in the outer boundaries. By drawing lightly at first, it helped me to distinguish my image.

C. Artists seek help from negative space because it brings out the main image in the drawing. Without negative space, it would be hard to notice the main image accurately. Negative space helps artists to make their image more visually appealing.

D. Negative space is useful because it enhances the image and makes it easier to pick out. It also brings out the image to the viewer and is easier on the eyes.

Final Perspective Drawing

Displaying photo.JPG

a. What is one thing that you learned specifically that you did not know before?

One thing that I learned and did not know before was that a vanishing point is the key to a perspective drawing. A vanishing point is a dot that marks the center of a drawing.

b. How did leaning this thing make your drawings better?

After I learned about the vanishing point, I used it to create lines called orthogonals. These lines made some parts of the drawing seem farther away or closer, depending on where they were in relation to the vanishing point. This made my drawing look more polished.

c. If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?

I think that next time, I would try to include more details. Also, I would add some color to it so that it wasn’t just a sketch.

d. What is your advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective drawing before?

I would suggest that if someone has never drawn a one-point perspective drawing before, that they go through a couple of tutorials and practice drawings. These tutorials did a good job of teaching me how to draw a quality perspective drawing.

e. What resource helped you the most and why?

I think that the tutorials were a big help for me. They taught me about the different parts and aspects of a drawing. After the tutorials, I was able to create a quality perspective drawing.

Perspective Reflection MP3

a. What is one thing that your learned specifically that you did not know before?

That one point perspective is the base of all drawing and artwork because of shading and positioning.

b. How did leaning this thing make your drawings better?

This made my drawing better because my it showed me how to properly shade and place my art work.

c. If you did this assignment again, what would you do differently?

I would change the depth of my drawings.

d. What is your advice to someone who has never drawn a one point perspective drawing before?

That I was already an artist so I had some perspective and drawing ability.

e. What resource helped you the most and why?

The fact that each and every student in the class was having trouble about different things giving us the opportunity to help each other. This is because we all needed hep and we were all willing to support some one else.

Por Will Gonzalez

This is my info graphic about my take and experiences reading this book. I often found the book very heart wrenching and hard to read at times but overall I felt is was an amazing book. This info graphic is also including my synopsis on the movie that I saw that I had to compare the book to. I felt that the book was well written and i felt that if the film was a book they would have the same writing styles.
