Negative and Positive Space ___Cutout
1) Negative Space is the sketch and or drawing that shouldn't be drawn by someone. This can be known as the background of an image.
2) To find where the negative space is all I did was realized what the outer surface of the object is in which basically to me is know as the outer layer. This what I did for the first project. For the second project it's very difficult to explain therefore it's better for people to visualize it instead.
3) Seeing this type of art made me see that art can really be exact and perhaps precise. This made me change my opinion about art because this shows that art is something that needs to be drawn almost close to being perfect.
4) Yes, this does help the artist because it helps me see the difference between an image and just random space that actually makes up the particles of any image.
Negative and Positive Space by Sadie
B. Negative space in our drawing with color is our reflection of negative space in each drawing. You are taking the negative space and making them into a reflection. Making the negative space the positive space and vice versa.
C. It helps an artist to see negative space because it can help you even out lines and see what should really be in each spot. It provides for more accurate drawings and a better view on being an artist.
D. seeing in negative space enhances the perspective of the drawing and knowing what is going on in the drawings. It helps you get a better understanding of how to draw.
Negative and Positive space
Negative space is the space between and around the object. When you draw a picture the blank space around the picture is considered the negative space.
B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?
When I was finding the negative space in my cut out I just looked around the edge of the tree. When i was doing the drawling of my stool i just looked in the spaces where the stool wasn't drawn.
C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?
It helps an artist to see negative space cause the can see where the lines stop in the drawling and you can see the detail in the picture.
D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?
Yes seeing negative space enhances the drawings cause you eyes will be more focused on the picture.
Negative Space, Aateeyah Sharrieff
2) I found the negative space in my stool by looking at the empty spaces around it. In my cut out, I found negative space by cutting out the outsides of the drawling.
3) It helps a artist see negative space because it helps them see all of the details in the object they are drawling.
4) In my opinion, it sometimes help for certain people to draw the negative space, and for others, it sometimes doesn't. People have different ways of drawling. Not everyone does it the same. So it depends on the person.
Kenyatta's Negative Space Drawing
A. Negative space is the space between an object, and not the actual object. When dealing with negative space, you always draw the actual space around the object but not the object itself.
B. The way I found negative space in my stool drawing, was I just looked around the stool, and drew all of the empty space surrounding it. The way I saw negative space in my cut out was, I looked at how the cut out had the 2 different colors, and saw how the cut out showed the space that was actually between the cut out.
C. The reason it helps an artist to see in negative space, is it allows them to see every single detail not only in the thing they want to draw, but also around it, causing you to be able to see every single detail.
D.I believe seeing in negative space does enhance a drawing. With seeing in negative space, you see things in a different perspective and are able to see every single detail of a drawing.

Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner
- I spoke with Enrique Matos and I picked him because he is from Peru and is trying to learn Spanish, as well as that he is 19 so close to our ages. What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
- I learned that he loved to eat and enjoys anything that is good, but he can not cook himself. He also knows how to keep a conversation going. How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?
- I think I primarily enjoyed talking to him because he knows how to talk about something that I enjoy myself. He is able to keep this conversation going and can say more than just the little thingsWhat specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
- I think I did well responding to him and asking him questions in order to keep this conversation going. We were able to have a civilized conversation and I know for a fact that this was the best person I talked to so far.
Conversacion #3
What will your topic of conversation be?
In this blog post I will talk about is traveling to places.
What are 5 questions related to your conversation goal that you can think of ahead of time to ask your partner?
Have you ever traveled outside your country?Do you want to visit other countries?
Have your family traveled to other countries?
Is traveling hard for you?
How is the country?
How do you anticipate your partner will respond to your questions?
I believe that they are going to respond in English mostly because since that Is the language they are practicing, they will want to feel comfortable answering in english, while I ask in spanish.
What are you looking forward to about this conversation?
I am looking forward to learning about the person, and where they want to travel. Also if they like to travel
What are you nervous about?
I am nervous about getting something wrong or saying something that they will not understand. Hopefully they can help me if I am wrong. For the most part I am not as nervous because I am more comfortable now since I have done this 2 other times before.
Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke with Vidal from Venezuela. I Choose him because he was learning English but was a spanish native. He also started talking to me first so I thought why not create and continue the conversation. He also likes sports like me.Also his conversation was getting a little more interesting than the others because, he ask questions and helped me when I was wrong. What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
I learned that never traveled before but would like to travel to japan, alemania, londres, and francia. He also works in a little cafe in his town.
How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
He made me feel comfortable about asking questions about sports because he felt comfortable about answering. Also, he helped me out because he was answering questions that I was asking which made it easier to talk about my topic.
What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
I did well was greeting him properly, I asked many questions and was respectful about what I said to him. I kept with the topic of conversation and made sure that that is all we talked about.
What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
I improved on talking to someone in spanish and they understanding me. I also improved on learning my spanish more and being more comfortable about speaking it.
Turning Off the Translator Part 2
Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner:
- SharedTalk; Peter
What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
- I learned that Peter is 20, doesn't go to school/college and wants to improve his english while learning russian. He's from a city in España that can be pretty at times. He's read a novel about my city and he was into anime but never really wanted to learn japanese./How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?
- I think this was helpful to me because i got correct on errors that I make frequently and now I know for the next conversation, how to say different things. My goal was to do as much as i could without the translator which i tried but couldn't. I could understand what he was saying for the most part but when I tried to say something back I couldn't always remember the right word or conjugation so I had to look it up.What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on?
- Quiero continue talking to people and getting comfortable because I'm noticing that the more I talk to people, the more words I have to look up, use, and then repeat until they're known to me. Things like telling people "Soy de un cuidad en los Estados Unidos" is now very easy and I don't have to look up those words. They've been memorized from repetition. My new goal is to have a truck load more conversations so that phrases become more known to me and in turn i can have less need for the translator.

-One thing that this did help me do was get a conversation startedWhat specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
-I was able to get a conversation started even though this person logged off the chat, and I'm going to continue to chat with people and help bring my confidence up of speaking spanish.

Who you spoke with and why you chose that partner
- I spoke with two people but I forgot to screenshot my other chat because I accidentally quitted out of it. I had a nice long conversation with Rafael from Brazil in spanish. He was helping me a lot too but anyway, the chat that I've screenshot is the one below. His name is Vidal and he was from Venezuela. What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
- I learned that he doesn't like running and he loves walking because he thinks it's relaxing.. I also learned that he likes learning new languages, he is currently learning japanese. I learned a couple of new words,How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?
- Last week, I posted my blogpost saying I wanted to have an conversation and record it but I wasn't able to do that but I skimmed through sharedtalk. I really liked how you get to meet new people and they were really friendly. So I chose to chat with them and they helped me with asking questions and awkward phrasings. What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
- I tried to keep my conversation going and for some part, I didn't know what else to ask because I ran out of questions to ask. Therefore, for next week, I'm definitely going to have a list of questions that I'd ask before talking to someone.
Goal #4: Be Natural
- Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
-I spoke with a guy who name is Luis Angel. The reason why I chose to speak with him is because he's from Mexico. All my other conversations were from people who lives in Spain. - What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
I learned that he's a very happy person. He's the type of person that always has a smile, no matter what. He doesn't like to be sad. Even at the toughest times, he wants to smile. - How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
Well, my goal was to be natural with my conversation, it worked kind of well, but not really. During the time that I was talking to him, I was super happy and it was interesting to talk to a person who was also happy. What a coincident! I tried to natural with my typing and not having to double think about what to say, but when I did that, my sentence didn't make sense ): it sucked, but he corrected me. - What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
I think I did well on pushing myself to say the right things. - What specifically do you need to improve on?
When I try to say a lot, I get all mixed up. So maybe I should stick with what I know instead of jamming a whole bunch of words together.
Maggie's 2nd blog post
- Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke with Cristy. She lives in Chile. I chose her because I liked her name and I knew she spoke Spanish. What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
She was good at spanish, but needed help with her English. I learned a couple things from her. She helped me spell. How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
It helped me speak more spanish and try not to use a translator. Having her there to help me made me more confident. What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
I didn't translate. I did use word reference though. But for individual words, not whole phrases. What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
I would like to try to keep the conversation going.

Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke with the same person I did for the first blog. His name is Alex, and he's from Columbia.
What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
For this conversation, we were speaking about a few different things. He was telling me about how he admired the United States... a lot. And we talked about his favorite food... which happened to be American food, and Columbian food. And we talked about movies. How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
With this only being our second conversation, I wasn't as nervous as before. But, he noticed that my responses were better than before. I feel a bit more confident in asking questions and replying.
What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
I did better with asking questions, and being able to reply without much hesitation. What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
I think I should start making a little list of things to talk about during the conversations.
*Because my person is trying to learn English, he was responding to my questions in English.*
Blog post 3
I spoke with Thea a senior at SLA. She is one of my friends who is fluent in Spanish and I felt comfortable talking to.
What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
She is reading a new comic series, I learned that talking to someone you know vs someone on livemocha is easier to keep a conversation because you know the basics about them.
Donde es Brasil
Goal: Asking follow up questions.
How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goals?
I learned new things about Brazil and asked questions as much as I could about her and her college. Although Some stuff I sai in english because she was learning english.
What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations? What specifically to you need to improve on?
I did well asking questions about her college and how she likes it. Wanted to ask others but she had to go when I thought of a good question.

I spoke to Elizabeth from Venezuela and I picked her because like I said in class back then, I am more comfortable to speak to girls than speaking to guys. I also like her because she's nice and we're both learning how to speak different language. Me spanish, and her english. Our conversation was pretty brief because she said that she have to help her mom on something. She's pretty proficient in English already so she pretty much helped me the whole time.
How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
Talking to her helped me to speak spanish sort of fluently. I know I still have some problems on how to construct a good and grammatically correct sentence. But she helped me a lot and she even helped me to use some new vocabularies.
What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
The conversation was not awkward and kind of monotone-ish. Both of us are asking and answering things rather than one person doing the whole interaction.
What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
I still need to speak Spanish fluently.

Reflection:
For my second conversation I again talked to Brianna Perrin. In this conversation I learned more about Brianna's culture. She is Puerto Rican and I learned about some of the traditions that her and her family have. I also learned some of the common foods in her culture. When I was coming up with the questions I realized that I forgot some basic words so this conversation was a nice refresher. I'm proud that I could keep the conversation going with saying more than just "esta bien" even though I did say it once. My improvement for the next time is to ask questions that will carry on a longer conversation.

- Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?
I spoke with a man by the name of Luis and he was from Mexico. I chose this person because he was close to my age (21) What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?
He wasn't very good at english and when speaking to him he didn't seem to practice his english, rather he spoke spanish the whole time. He wants to learn english because he likes our music (eminem, linkin park, etc.)How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?
Well the fact that he spoke only spanish forced me to not work with english at all, which was a bit challenging and i found myself quickly going to word reference to reply back to him. What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?
I was able to improve on my vocabulary. What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)
I would like to work a little on my conjugations and make sure I am getting them in the right tenses.

Calzonazo—Lazy man
or you could also use: Pipón—Lazy person
http://www.spanish-slang.com/In Spain you can say you are “floja / flojo” – lazy
or “un huevón / una huevona” – lazy person / layabout (derogatory)
In Puerto rico you might say “Bambalan” – Lazy Bum
On the other hand, in Argentina they have q very nice, but rude, expression: “rascarse [ps-ref v] [rude] lit. to scratch oneself; to do nothing useful, to be lazy, to lie around wasting time.”
I hope this helps for the start about how to say lazy in Spanish slang! Cheers, Chris
