Amira Gouri Capstone

Posted by Amira Gouri in CTE Senior Capstone · Ugworji/Walker-Roberts · Wed on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 9:59 pm

For my capstone, I made a website that presents information about the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that most people should know such as the definition of autism, facts, causes, symptoms, and treatments. I also added two podcasts where I interviewed a mother of a son on the spectrum and a special education teacher. I was originally going to make a series of podcasts with organizations and publish them on the radio and social media. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, I had to dismiss that idea and simply interview people I know through the phone. Most importantly, I learned how to make a website using Wix.com and adjust it to the way I like. I also learned a lot more new information about autism such as the comorbidity of autism and other disorders that I shared on the website. My goal for this capstone is to spread awareness about ASD. I feel confident and proud of this project because I was able to share a lot of information about autism. I have a dream that one day people on the spectrum will be independent, receive the proper education, get a job, and not only benefit themselves but also the community as well and most importantly, get accepted in the society.

Advanced Essay #3 // Women in Military

Posted by Amira Gouri in English 3 · Block/Harmon · Y Band on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 11:18 pm

Amira Gouri

Mr. Block

English 3

Introduction:

My goal is for readers to learn more about women in the military. I focused on the pros and cons of having women in the military. I’m proud of my analysis because I picked really good quotes to support my statement.

Essay:

As of 2017, women make up 16 percent of the active-duty military. During World War I from 1914 to 1918, women didn’t have any role in the military, but they were working in other fields such as munitions factories and farming to replace men who had gone to fight in the war. They had a role in providing soldiers with military equipment including weapons. Women’ role increased as in during World War II, about 350,000 women had the ability to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces, both at home and abroad. Most of these women didn’t serve in combat because they were afraid of public opinion. To this day, the military is still mostly men. This made people wonder how women's roles in the military differ from men? And how women in the military are changing over the course of years.

Women representation in the military is small and it is slowly growing. Many female stories tend to be ignored in favor of legacies left by men who have shaped the statement of service to the country. Despite the disagreement, servicewomen are successfully creating new career paths for themselves and the next generation as they enter jobs that were once only for men.

Being a woman also means facing criticism from the men. According to the New York Times magazine titled, “40 Stories From Women About Life in the Military” an article about women's experience in the military. Here is a quote from the article, “In 2006, a male shipmate got into my barracks room and placed a camera in my bathroom and set it to record. I found it only after getting out of the shower. I took the camera to my male chief, whom I had known for only about a month. He assured me that he would get to the bottom of it. By lunchtime, the strange looks from everyone became obvious. Another shipmate told me that everyone in the company office had passed the camera around and saw the video of me naked, getting into and out of the shower.”. We can see many different views from women, some claim they enjoy their job and they are proud of what they are doing, while some claim to be experiencing hardships such as sexual assault, and discrimination due to being a woman. This quote clearly shows the hardship women experience at a job where there is a majority of men. We can clearly see how some men view women as sex objects to the point where a man had to place a camera into the woman's bathroom. Some women chose to change themselves in order to blend in with the men. They eliminate their feminine characteristics, and cut off their hair, just so they could be respected by the men.

Now not all women were treated as inferior or experienced bad moments such as sexually assaulted. In fact, some women actually enjoy their job because they are following their passion, and they like being a minority, so they could be role models for other women who wish to pursue that career.  According to the same source New York Times magazine titled, “40 Stories From Women About Life in the Military”, there are stories about women who showed pride. A quote states, “I am currently Mrs. Texas Galaxy. When I was a National Guard recruiter, I came across many young women who said they couldn’t join because they were too “girlie.” So I started to compete in beauty pageants again to prove that you can still be and feel beautiful and follow any career path you want.”. This quote is a good example of a woman breaking stereotypes since the military is often considered as a job for masculine men. But in this case, the woman decides to also join a beauty pageant to prove that you can still be too “girlie” but also join the military or any other job that is considered not appropriate for “girlie” girls. She’s proving that a woman can do whatever she wants, and the stereotypes followed by society shouldn’t be a barrier to following your dreams.

This issue matters because it’s followed by stereotypes. Gender stereotypes act as a barrier for girls to follow their certain dreams such as being in the military. Gender stereotypes are one of the root causes of discrimination, abuse, and violence in various areas which can lead to violations of a wide array of women and human rights. Female participants argued that they are treated really different compared to men. For instance, women had to work twice as hard as men to prove themselves. Also, most of the time men did not trust women’ opinions and ideas or value the quality of their work, particularly in male-dominated ratings or specialties. Although it seems hard and it may take time, women have to continue to fight for their rights including the equality of treatment as men to create more freedom, jobs, and opportunities for the next generation.

Advanced Essay #2: Masks and Identity

Posted by Amira Gouri in English 3 · Block/Harmon · Y Band on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 9:26 pm

Introduction:

The purpose of my essay is for my audience to learn about identity, what

influences identity and how it can change due to their surrounding. Something I’m proud of in this essay is having the courage to write about a personal experience that was painful but I learned a lot from it. Next time, I will use more quotes and connect them to my thesis. I also plan on writing an outline for my next essay so it would be more organized.

Advanced Essay:

I remember when my parents, my brother and I visited Algeria in 2016 to spend our summer vacation there. I was excited to see my family again because I haven’t seen them for 5 years and I miss them very much. We will have a great time as we did in 2011. My cousin and I planned to do many things once I get there, from bean boozled challenge to playing Uno with the family to filming some movies on my Ipad.

It was still Ramadan when we went on the plane, and we had to stay there for 21 hours. I was so excited I didn’t want to sleep. I watched movies most of the time while my brother sat next to me drawing and coloring. After what felt like forever, we finally made it to Algeria. But I never realized that this time everything was going to be different.

After a long day, my family and I finally arrived at my aunt's new house. It was bigger and better than her old tiny apartment. It was in the middle of nowhere. As we walked down the hill, it took us a while to spot the house, due to the tall grass covering it. After a couple minutes of walking, we entered her new home. First thing I noticed was that the house was huge. The house was still disorganized because it needed a while to put everything in place. We entered the living room and there I saw my favorite cousin sitting on the couch waiting for me. I was so happy and I went to give her a hug.

“Your new house is really nice!” I exclaimed excitedly as I embraced her tightly.

“Yea I know we’ve been building this house for 6 years.” She responded with a hint of pride.

After that moment, we went to have dinner. It was couscous with chicken which is a really popular food in Algeria. Some of us had to sit on the floor due to the lack of chairs. I felt uncomfortable but I had no right to complain.

After dinner, we all prepared the mattresses on the floor so we could go to bed.

“She’s acting different,” I thought to myself.

And I was right. Ever since that day, I noticed that she was wearing a mask. A mask filled with kindness and love, but I noticed it slipping off. I sensed her true feelings. Envy, pride, and greed. I was shocked, to say the least, after 5 years of being in America, I came to be treated like that. I realized her jealous facial expressions when I would talk to my other cousins, and how she would be angry when I gave something to them. I sensed her pride aura while she was walking around her new home, and how she felt like she is better than me. I remember when she told me that I didn’t give her anything while wearing my clothes that I gave her the day we made it to Algeria. She was never like this, she was always very sweet and loving. She would call me every day and sometimes we would talk for hours. We would always talk about the great moments we had together when we were younger. Moments that most likely won’t happen again. After understanding her true intentions, I still stayed positive because I didn’t want to hurt her feelings. In other words, I wore a mask as well but behind my mask is pain, sadness, and frustration. I felt like I didn’t belong there, and I wanted to go back to America. I was wondering, what made her change?

People wonder what shapes an individual's identity, and what makes them act the way they are. According to Rorty, “The contrast between the inner and outer person becomes the contrast between the individual and the social mask, between nature and culture.” (Brainpicking). This quote gives us a good explanation of the complexities of one's identity. This quote really helped me understand why a person’s identity will suddenly shift. From his point of view, we see that it’s the environment that shapes a person's actions. This is why we are all different in everything, and sometimes these changes in life will make us change our entire identity to either better or worse. A person has an inner and outer personality, that they show at different times. For example, some people might show more of their inner personality around the people they are close with such as their friends and family members, while their outer personality might be used towards strangers or social media.

Another quote from the same source and author states, “Many identities are relational in the West, such as those of parent, child, group member and so on. What we think of as different notions of self are largely a matter of differences in what aspects of self are expressed where and when.” (Brainpicking). This quote gave me a good understanding of how the people around you can affect your identity. This articles even explained how parents can shape their children’s personalities, as he shows us an article about the differences in children who are raised by Asian and Western parents. It suggests that all children everywhere can benefit from being brought up to think more about effort and their relations to others than their own abilities and personal development. In this case, it’s possible that my cousin’s parents or friends influenced her to act that certain way.

In conclusion, our identity is an important aspect of everybody's life, in other words, it shapes up who we are. Our identities can be influenced by our parents, culture, and people around us. Which makes it possible for our identities to change. Sometimes people’s identities can be interpreted through their actions, even if they don’t say it clearly and decide to wear a mask to cover it.

Advanced essay #1: Willpower

Posted by Amira Gouri in English 3 · Block/Harmon · Y Band on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 7:36 pm
Idea: My main idea is to focus on willpower and how everyone has the power to succeed even if it seems impossible. In this essay, I will focus on my one year school experience in Algeria. During that one year, I had to learn how to read, and write Arabic. It wasn’t easy, but because of my hard work and the support I got from my family, I managed to pass. I'm proud of myself for writing this piece and I put a lot of effort to it. I would like the students to notice the struggle I went through during that experience and give everyone hope that they can be successful as well. I also want them to note that the stress they are going through in school will always pay off. I want to improve my introduction because I feel like it wasn't engaging.

Willpower

I was filled with excitement while walking to the airport with my mother and brother. I was going back to Algeria. My mother told me that we were going to stay there for a year. I told her that I was ready for this big change but I actually wasn’t. The change that made me view everything differently. The change that made me a weak yet strong person. The trip lasted eighteen hours and we finally arrived to Algeria.

It was the beginning of September. The chilly soft breeze hitting our faces as we made it to our apartment in Medea, Algeria. My mom’ first step was to find a good school for me and a daycare for my brother. This procedure took a week-long, meaning that I started school late. I was thrilled to go to my new school. I was always ready for changes, but I didn’t realize that it was going to be that difficult. That morning, I gathered the school supplies that I bought from America and placed them on my pink book bag. My mother walked me to the classroom.

“Good luck honey!” She waved as she walked away.

I waved back and turned to the front door.

“It’s only fourth grade… it’s not going to be too hard... I got this!” I thought to myself. I entered the huge classroom and everyone's eyes fell on me. My face flushed red as I averted my eyes to the ground.

“Hello, you must be the new student.” said an old lady, whom I presumed to be the teacher.

“Yes...” I replied quietly.

“Welcome, I am your teacher. Why don’t you introduce yourself?” she stated.

I turned to face the students, they were all girls and the seats were arranged in rows facing the board. I observed the classroom and noticed that there were about forty students. I introduced myself and noted the fact that I’m from America and I don’t know Arabic very well. The majority of their eyes widened when I mentioned I’m am not from here, as a result, some started whispering to each other.

“You may have a seat,” the teacher pointed to the empty seat in the front row.

I slowly walked to my new seat, ignoring all the eyes observing my every movement. I sat down and the teacher began her the lecture. After seven hours of class, the bell rang and I quickly packed my stuff and left the classroom, avoiding those who wanted to talk to me. As I walked out I saw my mother waiting for me at the school entrance.

“Hey sweetie, how was school?” she questioned in a sweet and soft tone.

“I don’t like it.” I answered bluntly.

“I didn’t understand anything the teacher was saying… I want to go back to America. Mama! I’m scared how can I do this?!” I continued with a desperate tone.

“This is just the beginning Amira, you know the basics of Arabic, I know you can do this, I know your capacities.” She answered with honesty. I stared at her with a look of disbelief.

“Everyone has the willpower to succeed, and if you work hard for it then you will succeed.” She said with pride. I stayed silent but let those words sink in. It gave me a little bit of hope.

Months have passed by and I was slowly starting to understand what was going on in class. My mother was always there to support me and help me with my study. Because of her, I learned how to read and write in Arabic. The struggle wasn’t easy, but I always managed to push myself to the limit. Sometimes it would take me hours just to finish my homework, and in my free time I would read Arabic books and take notes on them.

It was almost the end of the school year, the period of the major exams. The exams that determined whether I would pass to the next grade or not. I would stay up until two in the morning studying for those exams, with the help of my mother. Days flew by and It was the first day of the exams, I entered a different classroom filled with students who I never saw before. My heart was pounding loudly as I sat down and waited for the exam paper.

“This is it,” I thought wiping away the sweat that was building up on my forehead.

“I really hope my hard work will pay off,” I said to myself as I lifted my number two pencil and wrote my name at the top of the exam. Two weeks later, the results were announced. A mixture of emotions stirred inside me. A combination of fear, excitement, and disappointment. “Did I pass or not?!” I thought loudly in my head. I opened my booklet and noticed a green stamp near the bottom of the page. I passed and with high grades! My eyes filled up with tears of joy. I couldn’t wait to tell my parents. They will be so proud of me. I walked outside and saw my mom outside holding a tissue and wiping out the tears in her eyes.

“I passed,” I smiled and hugged her.

More tears started to flow down her cheeks as she embraced me back.

“I knew you could do it, I’m so proud of you.” she sobbed. I remember when my mother would go up to the teachers and ask them what my next unit will be about and they would always reply with “It’s okay if she fails.” Even the principal once said, “There are people born here and don’t pass. This is her first year of school in Algeria, so I highly doubt she will pass.” I was furious after hearing that, and I wanted to prove them wrong. In the end, I did. I showed them my capacity and willpower. The support I had and my strong determination led me to success.

Printing Matt // Zinc

Posted by Amira Gouri in Art - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 1:46 pm
My element is Zinc. The name is taken from the German, ‘zinc’ which may in turn be taken from the Persian word ‘sing’ meaning stone. The atomic number is 30, and so is the protons and electrons. The atomic mass is 65.38. And the number of neutrons is 35. Zinc is a transition metal. German chemist Andreas Marggraf figured out how to isolate zinc by heating carbon and calamine. Zinc is actually useful for the human health. It can be seen in pills that help reduce pain and it can seen in cream that can help reduce rashes and skin irritations. Zinc is used throughout the world largely to protect steel against rust. For my art, I drew a recycling symbol with steel designs on it because according to studies zinc is always recyclable, and it protects steel from rusting. In the beginning, I had to sketch it on paper then traced it on thin paper. After that, I traced it on foam board, and I made sure to deepen the parts that I didn’t want the ink to touch. Lastly, I used the paint roller to roll the ink over the foam board, then I placed the foam board on paper and made sure it’s the opposite side so it will print the correct side on paper. If I were to do this differently, I will make sure to deepen the parts that should be without ink on the foam board better. I enjoyed the sketching the idea part, because I managed to express my creative ideas and it was fun.

Autistic people are different but not less

Posted by Amira Gouri in English 1 · Giknis · A Band on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 10:56 am

Hi, my name is Amira Gouri. And my topic is about ASD also known as autism. Which is a developmental disorder that can be noticed on children at early age, generally between two and three years old. It’s when the child start showing poor social skills, trouble of communicating with others, speech delay and/or difficulty of learning. Till now, scientists don’t know the exact causes of autism which makes it hard to invent a medicine that will help cure autistic people.
According to my last post, I interviewed a mother with an autistic son, she shared really important information about her experience with her son, and the adventure she had from the diagnosis of her child when he was 2 years old until today. Her journey is an inspiration and a hope for all mothers with autistic children. In the beginning, I decided to do a presentation but then I changed my mind and wanted to do a poster instead because I want the whole school to know about my issue not just my advisory. And making a poster would fit that criteria. After doing my research I discovered that the percentage of autism is dramatically increasing, but many people still don’t know much information about it, I want to spread awareness by making  a poster that presents information about autism that most people should know such as the definition of autism, facts, causes, symptoms, and the best treatment. I feel confident and proud about this project because I was able to share a lot of information about my passion issue with many people. I chose to do a poster as an effective way of raising awareness about autism among people because it is a permanent method that can last for a long time so many people can see and read it. I also chose to hang the poster in the hallway because that's the place where a lot of students and teachers have the ability to learn from it. I feel like I should have done more posters, so I can hang them everywhere at school, or make brochures with information about autism and give them to people in and outside the school. I learned many facts about autism that I never knew before, for example I never knew that there is a strong debate about whether vaccines are the cause of autism or not. I also learned that some treatments can be beneficial for some autistic people but not for others. In my opinion, autism is a serious issue that affects innocent children and their families as well, so me and others in the community should spread awareness everywhere, accept these people in our society, ask for their basic rights in autistic support schools and colleges where they can learn, have degrees and have jobs in the future, we should also donate to many non-profit organizations that offer them free activities such as sports, art and music, and most importantly, support their families and offer them help, love and hope.

This is a movie trailer made by Amira Gouri, Nasya Ie, Abraham Gayer, and Ivan Lopez JR. For our video, we basically took most of the important parts of the book (the curious incident of the dog in the night-time) and acted it out. For example the scene where he runs away was a really important part of the story so we put that in our trailer. We hope you enjoy this video!

Autistic people are different but not less

Hi, My name is Amira Gouri. And my topic is about ASD. In other words autistic spectrum disorder. According to the interview, and my last post. Symptoms of autism can be noticed on children on early age, generally between two and three years old. It’s when the child has trouble of communicating with others and/or difficulty of learning. The disorder has many symptoms. Scientists till now, still don’t know the causes of autism.

For my impact of change, I am planning to raise awareness and donate to schools that have autistic support classes. This way more people will learn about autism and actually try to help people with the disorder. Autistic support classes should have few students, so the teacher can her/his assistants can control, teach and take care of the students. Because their aren’t that many schools that have autistic support classes and the percentage of autistic children is increasing, so those classes may have a lot of students which can affect their learning negatively. So spreading awareness and seek help from the government and people as well can be beneficial and make a difference.

I learned that the improvement of progress is based on many different factors together. For example, school helps with his education, spending more time with him helps with social skills, therapist helps with his communication, the supplements and gluten free diet help with his health. Which can be really effective to some, and can be less effective to others. I also learned that most autistic people are good at memorizing, and playing sports. I still wonder about the exact cause of autism, and will researches find a medicine that will cure autism, or at least decrease autism from spreading.
This is an image of some of the supplements that can be used by autistic children and the description of them and how they are helpful.
This is an image of gluten free bread.

After interviewing a mother of an autistic child. She shared some of her experience, struggle in her journey with her autistic son. I was able to know a lot of information from her. That started 13 years ago and still didn’t end yet. When her son was 2 she started noticing that he had some interaction issues, wasn’t able to control his emotions, poor eye contact, and when she talks to him he never answers. Just like the symptoms I researched. After she noticed all that she shared her concerns with her son's pediatrician who recommended her a psychologist. After testing and observing him while he is playing and acting they discover that he has autism. Now her son is 16, and he in a high school and that he improved but his improvement is limited, he still isn’t independent as she wishes him to be, he still has social skill issues. Since then she tries her best so that her son will be better such as supplements, gluten free diet, speech, play, and occupation therapy, school, after-school activities and spending more time with him. Like most parents she is fully concerned about his safety and getting a job.

Rubber Stamp - Cut out

Posted by Amira Gouri in Art - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 1:49 pm

My work symbolizes an owl, and a heart. The owl represents intelligence, and femininity. And I feel like that describes me because I see myself as intelligent, and I’m a female. The heart represents love. And I feel like that describes me because I see myself as a caring, and loving person. I purposely choose the color pink, because first it is one of my favorite colors, and second because pink is a delicate color, it represents sweet, nice, feminine, and it’s associated with flowers, and cotton candy. And I feel like those describe me as well. I mostly brainstormed words that described me physically. For example, I am female, and a student at SLA. There are some other words I brainstormed that doesn’t associate with my physical character for example I am friendly, and intelligent.

This is a positive space art. Positive space is when the picture focuses on the main focus instead of the background. Unlike negative space which focuses on the background instead of the main focus. For my art, I just drew my symbol in a pink colored construction paper. In order to successfully make a positive art, you must make the symbol look like a shape. So when you cut it out, you cut out the outer layers. Then after you finish cutting it, you glue it to another paper. Positive and negative space may seem confusing at first. But, once you do more research about it you’ll understand it better.

Negative Space

Posted by Amira Gouri in Art - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 1:43 pm
Negative space is the space that surrounds an object in an image. In other words, negative space focuses on the background instead of the main focus of the image. Negative space helps to define the boundaries of positive space and brings balance to a composition.
20170428_133659
20170428_133659
How did I find the negative space?
It’s the left side of the paper, because that side is where it focuses on the background. Negative space art helps an artist to focus on the backgrounds. Negative space does enhance drawings because it makes illusions. It makes it seem as if the background is also a main focus.

Autistic people are different but not less

Hello, My name is Amira Gouri. I am a freshmen at Science leadership Academy. My topic is about Autism. Autism also known as ASD (autistic spectrum disorder) is a disorder that can be noticed on children on early age, generally between two and three years old. It’s when the child has trouble of communicating with others and/or difficulty of learning. Most of the time, autistic people don’t have friends because they have difficulties building friendships. Autistic children need special treatment.

This is an image of the autism awareness symbol. It’s a symbol of a puzzle piece with different colors which represents the mystery and the complexity of autism. The different colors represent the diversity symptoms of the autistic individuals.

Over the last decade, scientists have identified a number of rare gene changes associated with autism in around 15 percent of cases. However, in most cases autism can be caused by a combination of genetic risk and environmental factors such as advanced both parents age at time of the conception, illness during pregnancy, difficulties during delivery, prematurity and low birth weight, all these can cause difficulties in the oxygen deprivation to the baby’s brain which can lead to damaging the brain cells. All the nongenetic factors, by themselves are not enough to cause autism unless they are combined with genetic risk factors. There is a crucial debate about vaccines that many believe that it is the cause of autism because many kids suffer from high fever and severe diarrhea after taking it, then their mood and behavior started changing. On the other hand, others argue that vaccines can’t be a cause of autism because every child takes it but just few who have those reactions. It is important to keep in mind that these studies were done on some cases, and the exact cause for autism is still a mystery.

The statistics showed that boys are four times more likely to have autism than girls. There are some autistic people that have a strength in some things and a weakness in others. For example, my brother really excels in math and has a strength in memorizing and learning quickly, but he has a weakness in social communication.

No two people with autism have the same symptoms, some of them have few symptoms which means their autism is mild, but others may have all the symptoms and suffer from severe autism.

The most common symptoms among people with autism are: poor social skills, which includes showing very little or no eye contact, lack of relationships, having difficulty with back and forth conversations, they also have difficulty with controlling their emotions, and understanding others emotions such as pain, and sadness. They also could be very obsessed with certain topics or objects such as numbers, places, toys and facts such as science topics. Hyperlexia (knows how to read but doesn’t understand it) is also common in individuals with autism. Secondary symptoms may include using unusual gestures (and some could also be repetitive) such as clapping, walking on their tippy toes, hand flapping, and closing their ears, some require having repetitive behavior such as rocking, twirling, rearranging objects, and repeating words or phrases that they hear which is called echolalia. taca-autism-stats-2014.jpg

This is an image of a line graph that shows autism increasing between the years 1970 to 2014. Autism is dramatically increasing, statistics from 2014 showed that 1 in 68 children in the US has an ASD, which is a 30% increase from 2012. Imagine to where it increased in 2017. Although the U.S is spending at least 90 billion dollars on autistic support which includes insurance, research, therapy, education... etc, it is still a deficiency in classes with autistic support, different kind of therapy and programs, and even support for parents with autistic children. I believe that is important to spread awareness with posters, events and conferences, so more people will understand the true meaning of autism. Even though early intervention may help children with autism to progress over time, parents still wish there will be a medicine that help their children accrue really fast which bring joy and happiness to their lives again.

Printmaking and Relief printing

Posted by Amira Gouri in Art - Freshman · Hull · d2 Band on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 11:49 am

Printmaking is the activity of making pictures of designs by printing them on blocks, and plates. It is originally an ancient technique that were used by many tribes and nations such as China, Germany, Egypt, Japan, etc. Printmaking is important because it’s a way of expressing yourself, and designing stuff such as armor, plates, traditional materials or just plain art. People even used to use printmaking to communicate. A kind of printmaking is relief printing, which is when the image is a relatively simple matter of inking the original surface of the matrix and bringing it in firm contact with the paper. Then remove (by carving) away areas intended to print white.

This is an example of relief printing. I notice how the artist made this art look simple. I also notice how the beautiful this art looks like with just black and white. I wonder what inspired the artist to make this art. I also wonder how long it took for the artist to make this.

Soy yo

Y
no sabemos qué elegir.

According to the feedback I got. I learned that I have to keep my pictures color backgrounds similar to the rest of the pictures. In my “Fashion designing” picture, I had a tan background, unlike the other pictures which had a white background. So, I changed the picture with another picture that is also associated with fashion designing, and with a white background. Another thing I learned was to make my type really big. I made it 24 size, however there was some people that couldn’t see it, so I change it to a 36, so people could see it clear. Another thing I changed was the theme. My theme had a light pink background, with a couple squares + triangles in the right top corner that is indigo & dark blue, and the picture with my name on it, was cutting through it. So I change the theme and I don’t have those square + triangles on the top corner, so instead I have a pink & purple background. The top is pink, and the bottom purple, and I placed the 2 pictures of my passions in the bottom, and the picture of my name, and the “All about me” text above it. The last thing I changed, was the location of the “All about me” text. I placed it above the my name picture, instead of the bottom. Because according to the feedback I got, my name should be under it, so it could be read as “All about me: Amira”. Research is extremely important in the beginning of the project, because I learned lots of things that helped me understand what to do, and it came to a good result.

My Media Fluency

I made the slide look like this because it decorates it with the pictures that have my passions which gives clues or hints to the audience, so they know what I like, for example I included a picture of a drawn flower, which shows my passion of drawing, and a picture of a mannequin, and designer tools, and the words shown in big letters saying “Fashion Designer” next to it, which shows my passion, and my dream career of fashion designer. I included warm/light colors for the background and the words, to make it eye catching, and to show my favorite colors. I learned from the sites that you have to make it visual so it could be understood when seen. Make type big, or size so people could see it big, nice and clear without any problems, I also included my favorite fonts. Empty space so the background could be shown and make it simple and professional. Have a visual theme, I only included a few basic colors, that would look good with the background, and design.
