Keystone XL Pipeline Monologue Project
For our History Class in Science Leadership Academy, we had to write monologues as to why the Keystone XL Pipeline should or should not be built, or if someone is torn between wanting the pipeline to be built or not. We had to have facts and opinions in our monologues, and we had to make sure that the monologues made sense. My monologues are about why the Keystone XL Pipeline should be built, and that is my first one. My second one is about a man who doesn't know if he wants the pipeline to be built or not, and the last one is about a woman that wants the pipeline to be built, and she explains why it should be built. While working on this project a learned a lot of good and bad things about the pipeline. One good thing is that it will make more jobs available, and one bad thing is that people will have to give up their houses and their land for the pipeline to be built. We worked very hard on these projects, and we learned a lot about the Keystone Pipeline.
Monologue 1
(In the classroom walking around the desks, and explaining to her kids why the Keystone Pipeline shouldn’t be built.)
The Keystone Pipeline is meant to carry oil from Canada all the way down through Texas. It will go through six states, and it will destroy our environment. If this pipeline is built, people’s homes and land will be destroyed. There is a quote from tarsandsblockade.org, and it says, “Daryl braves fire and Keystone XL machinery to defend Eleanor’s farm.” This is only one reason that I am strongly against this pipeline. The people that run this are going to destroy our land and our homes. They could possibly make our water polluted, and we won’t be able to drink it. It will also make us not be able to grow crops, so we will have less food, and they don’t care because they still want to do that. I don’t know how your parents feel about the pipeline, but in my opinion everyone should be against it. Also, Obama claims that he is all about the people of the U.S.A., but if he approves of the pipeline, people will lose a lot, and if the pipe had a crack and the oil leaked that is very hazardous, and people could die.
Monologue 2
(Matthew Morris is sitting in his little cubicle at work, thinking to himself if he should leave his job to work with the pipeline, or if he should stay at his job. He has been hearing good and bad things about the pipeline.)
I don’t know what to do. I feel like I need more money, but at the same time if I will only be employed for five years, and I can’t get my job back here, then I will be unemployed and with this society it will be so hard to find another job. I need the money to help my family, but if I lose my job then my family income will be even worse than it already is. My wife isn’t working, because she stays at home with the children. The children have to go to public school, which isn’t so good, because we don’t have the money to pay for a good private school. We barely even have enough money for food. I’ve heard good and bad things about the pipeline, so I looked on the internet. The internet also has good and bad things. I don’t know what to believe, or which side to take. I’m confused. Some people I know are all for the pipeline, but others are totally against it. I don’t know if I’m for or against the pipeline because I really need this job. I’ve heard that it will run through people’s home and land, so they will lose their houses and have to move. They will probably get paid for their houses and land, but not as much as it would sell for on the market. The government is probably going to approve of the pipeline, but I don’t know if I do after hearing all of the negative things about it. I’ve heard more negative than positive on this topic, and it makes me wonder if I should just leave it alone and stay at the job I have now. I’m just very confused but angry at the same time.
Monologue 3
(Sitting at her desk at her job as a lawyer, Christina Gibbs is typing about her feelings about the Keystone Pipeline and why it should be approved.)
“I am strongly for the Keystone Pipeline. I feel as though it will make the U.S.A. a better country all together. Also, instead of having to get as much oil as we do now from our enemy countries, we can get it from our allies. Also, the people that are going to be hired are going to go through training to learn how to weld the pipeline, so it isn’t like they aren’t learning how to make the pipeline. I also think this is a big step towards American independence because we are so dependent on the Middle East for oil, but if we get the pipeline we won’t have to be dependent of anyone. Also, she thinks everything will be better for the U.S. because we won’t have to associate with the countries that we hate, and that hate us. I feel as though the U.S.A. is independent in every other type of way except oil. If we got independent from other countries for oil, we would probably be the most independent country in the world.”
Appendix
- the Keystone XL Pipeline will make a lot of jobs available to people.
- if the pipeline leaks, it could pollute the water in the ground, and it could make the crops that people grow unhealthy to eat.
- If people get jobs helping make the pipeline they will only be employed for a few years.
- If the pipeline is built, a lot of people will have to move out of their houses, and off of their property.
- If the pipeline is built, the people that will be hired are going to be trained on how to weld the pipes together.
- If the pipeline is approved, then we will have to get less oil from the Middle East.

Keystone XL Pipeline
Monologue#1
No...Noooo.. My dad just got notice this morning from the government to leave our house because they putting some pipeline here in my house. Is thats the pipeline my history teacher was talking about?. Thats made me go back to the day when we was learning about the “Keystone Pipeline”. In my history class when my teacher told us about the Keystone Pipeline and all my classmates and I start wondering what this pipeline is about. We were about to ask the teacher, when he told us to watch the video describing the details. This is the coolest thing I ever saw- wow, pipeline start from Canada and through United States. Then when we start going deep into the video we realize that keystone pipeline is a ridiculous idea because it not only bad for our land its also going to affect our environment, And now I have no house. Thats is why i am here with you guys to stop this pipeline to save my house and our environment. All want you guys to do is be with me and help me to stop the pipeline.
Monologue#2
I am a owner of corner store in texas and when i was watching the news this morning and i heard that some kind of Pipeline for oil are starting from canada through the united state and going to ends at texas. This pipeline might take place in my town, neighborhood or even in my store. Doesn’t matter where this pipeline going to take place it will destroy everything and it will make difficulties for our next generation to leave. This is ridiculous “Why” we need this pipeline?. Why can't we live the way we usually live. why?
Monologue#3
Buzzz....Buzzzz......Buzzz Hello who is this? Hi I am Steve Calling from the National Oil Corporation. I was wondering what do i think about Keystone what? pipeline? What about it?. I am just going to take one minute for you to talk about the Keystone pipeline starting from canada and all the way through United stade. The keystone XL pipeline connecting us to Canada’s booming oil shale production the pipeline will bring so much bad oil from canada that will affect our environment. So What do you think about the pipeline Ms?. wow-cool I am sorry i have to go to work so can you please call letter when my husband is here.

Keystone Pipeline XL Monologue Project
(Daequan is walking down the street and notices Ms. Willson on her step)
Hey Ms. Wilson... (Pauses to listen)
This weather is lovely isn't it..(pauses to listen)
Hows it going?... (pauses to listen)
(sighs) Well I'm not doing too well, I haven't had a job in 5 months. Schools about to start up again and I don't have any money to get Leah any clothes. This is Rihards first year in school and I don't want him to go to school feeling like he is less than anyone...(pauses to listen, walking up the steps to go sit on the porch with her)
yea I've tried looking online but no one is hiring any more or you need a certain degree and I only have a degree in construction … (pauses to listen)
Yea I've heard about the Keystone Pipeline, I also heard that they are debating weather or not if they should build it which to me should be in issue since it creates hundred of thousands of jobs. Only if they were to agree to build it I would be back on my feet... (pauses to listen)
Well , I did hear that it would pollute the air more than regular oil and would cause climate change but i have to look at how it would benefit me now. If they don't decide to build it I won't be able to put food on the table or pay the bills, we would become homeless. The issue of pollution wouldn't matter. Come on Ms. Wilson you know how hard it is to get a job out here especially being an African American...(pauses to listen)
I know if the air is polluted it would have an effect on my grandchildren and my great grandchildren but I have to look at it now , (getting sad) my children won't even be able to have children if I don't provide for them right now. Think about it, if they were to decide the pipeline that would mean the gas would be cheaper and I would be able to take you to the supermarket and get those sweet cherries you like and take you to the white folks neighborhood and buy you those fresh collard greens from the produce market...(pauses to listen)
I guess nothing will convince you that this pipeline is the best thing that can happen to people like me. People who don't have any other chance of work except this.. I understand, (starts crying) I need the money, I don’t care about what will happen in the future I am broke right now. Imma talk to you later, I have to go fill out the application to work...(pauses to listen, walking down the steps)
Just stop! Anything you say will not change my mind. Goodbye.
(Rondo sees the major of the city he lives in in Canada, he shakes his hand and begins to talk)
Hello Major Ashton I am Rondo White and I have come to you about the problem of the Keystone Pipeline....(Pauses to listen)
Well my concern is that this pipeline will destroy all living kind. It will destroy our air, destroy our water and cut down the amount of tree’s that we have...(Pauses to listen for a 3 seconds also looking as if he is confused)
Yes I am native to canada...(Pauses to listen)
Listen, I’ve heard all about the jobs that this project will provide for all of the people who live here and who live in the USA, but the amount of jobs wouldn't matter after the pipeline has done all the damage that it can do. If you all go forward with this the people of Canada will not be able to tend to their daily lives... (pauses to listen, the major says how?)
How you ask? (Chuckling) (in a rude way he says...) Please don't be so naive, you are building a giant pipe in the middle of our city, we as Canadians won't be able to go to our ponds and fish because the water would be so polluted. We won't be able to go hiking because the workers would be mining the trails and even worse, we can't even take a nice fresh breath of air because the air would be so polluted. The tar sands extractions releases 3 times more carbon dioxide then then the fuels we already use...(pauses to listen anger builds up in his voice)
(looking around with hands held out) Is this what Canada has become? The only thing that you all can talk about is how many jobs this pipeline creates are you all even concern with the fact that the well being of the people is at risk because of this pipeline...(Pauses to listen)
I understand that us as a people complain about how high the unemployment rate is and how high the gas prices are but do you really think building this pipeline will benefit our country more than it will hurt us?...(pauses to listen)
Sorry, I hate to interrupt you but if you build this pipeline there will be no reason for jobs because there will be no more people...(Pauses to listen)
Please enough already, I came to you because I thought you would understand me being a native Canadian but I guess we will never come to the same conclusion. (getting up) I already had a family member die from polluted air and I refuse to sit back and watch my whole country die. Thank you for your time ,but this isn't the last you'll see of me .
(Treesum is a tree that lives in a forest in Canada. Talking to a worm that is beginning to eat his leaf. )
Hows it going ? (Pauses to listen)
Well I am not in a very good mood. As I am standing here today, it has come to my attention that I will not be able to live on much longer. Before the humans where here this earth was beautiful. The air was fresher than ever, the water was clearer than grass and all my family was alive . Now the human race has put us plants through it all, but today is the day that I realize that it is getting worse then ever before. A little bird came to eat the wonderful seeds that i have to offer when it told me that the USA and Canada are planning to build a pipeline that runs through both of the countries. I am terrified. If they go through with this then we will be cut down (Looking around to the other trees, (beginning to get sad ). Even if they decide not to decide to cut us down we are still going to die because 90% of water that they use will be polluted and will be released back into the general population. When the extract the oil form of the tar sand they will release so much Carbon in that air that we will die from not being able to separate the oxygen we need from that disgusting carbon we don't want. (sighs) we can never win. They just don’t care, don’t these crappy humans no that we are one of the main reasons why the can take in good breaths but yet they are trynna tear us down. (getting angry) It's sad because all we do on a daily basis is trying to help them and all they do is kill us. If they decide to build this pipeline there are losing out on ever breathing a fresh breath of air. They are going to miss out on the wonderful scenery that we, as trees, have to offer.(Pauses to listen).
I know its sad (acts as if he hears a noise) Wait , What's that noise? They're here. I guess they really don’t care. (Truck gets closer, begins to try to cut down Treesum) Stop it... Please Stop it ! Ahhhhhhhhh. ( The construction works cut him down)
The Keystone pipeline will create hundres of thousands of jobs for people in the USA and Canada.
The world will never be able to recover if something goes wrong with the pipeline.
Humans have already used 2/3 of the natural resources that we have.
Americans dont need the oil, They waste nearly a million barrels a day.
The oil extraction of tar sands pollutes the air 3 times more than regular oil does.
The amount of carbon released by the pipeline will rise the climate by 30%

Name: Tamir Ma’ar
Setting: From libya, came to America in 2008. He is at home with his wife, talking about pipeline that he works at/to self.
Objects: Grill cheese, child.
“ Yea sweetie, yea. uhh, No, no I wan’t the grilled cheese like my little soldier here. Yea the craft, babe. The Cheese babe. Ok, Ok. So, you want to hear about daddies day at work? Well, you already know I work for the pipe place right? (wait) Yea, the pipeline co. no, ‘Co’ stands for ‘company’ honey. uhh, No ‘co’ doesn’t stand for Corporate office. Wait, Babe, does ‘co’ Stand for ‘Corporate office’? Well i guess no one will know then. Anyway sweetie, heres what i do, you ready? I uhh, go to work right, ok, now heres the real kicker, I mop the floors! Isn’t that nice honey? No. Well, thats why mommy put that dollar under your pillow last week when you lost your tooth, huh. No Babe! She’s to old for that now anyhow. Six is too old babe! Anyway, the people, huh, there’re making an uhhh, stop crying and listen to daddy complain please honey. OK, So they’re making a pipe that will go all over the US to give us oil. But i don’t like it. It has to many bad things. First if all, it looks U-gly (uge - ley) The people making it don’t care about anything other than the money they’ll be making and . . . Fine, if you want to cry, go and watch some tv. Some spongebob hon, i think the bubble episode is on. Uhh, thanks for the grilled cheese babe. As i was telling our little soldier over there, the bosses only care about their paycheck and not about the environment they harm. What do i mean? I’ll tell you what i mean. The pipeline would add two mega . . . megatron? (Pause) No a Gigaton! Yea, gigaton of Carbon dioxide into the air. Yea babe, a Gigaton, Thats like a gig---and a ton of gas, you know. times two. Yes i know what i’m talking about, I work there for Allah’s sake. listen, anyway, this thing is going to kill our earth in little to no time. (Pause) What!! I know You! You care enough to listen, you don’t love me! Go and walk away then, like you always do! No you don’t! (Mumble) Whatever. ( talking to self) But, what i really want to do is try to stop their production. Yea, stop it, as in sabotage the boiler room and watch it explode! I have access, I could just turn up the thermostat and turn off the cooling valves and wait a week then, BOOM, goodbye mops. I’m serious though. (Pause) I mean, i wouldn’t go that far; just far enough to make my job easier but this job pays well. I need the money. And I don’t think Obama Cares that much, the paper said (Sarcastically), ‘Obama Should approve the pipeline.’ But in another paper it said, ‘ Obama most Definitely not approve keystone XL’, I Guess ‘most definitely’ beats ‘should’, huh. Anyway i want, no no, i WISH that I could stop them, but what am i going to do against a whole company?”

Monologue 2
Name: Artemis Fowl
Setting: On a Playdate, talking to other child about the gasses and asthma. (Thoughtful and very smart child). The other child has little to no recognition of the current situation. He’s rich.
obj: Doll, Monster truck,,
“ Your hair looks better. Yea, No. Hand me that Monsta truck over there. No the red one please, thanks. why do you girls play with dolls all the time? Isn’t 10 too old to play with dolls? I guess ten years old is too old to play with monsta trucks too, huh? So, my mommy and daddy were talking about, about a pipe. No a pipe. A pipe! A PIPE, like . . . the potty; pipe. Yea, well it goes ALL around the world.. (Pause) I know thats a lot. (Pause) Well I looked it up on my iphone. (pause) Google. (Pause) Cause we’re rich. So, the pipe makes stuff for the stuff, then brings it here; but the bad part is that i’ll have to use my inhaler more, daddy said. (Pause) The asthma doesn’t bother as much as it did when i was little, but it still happens a lot. mommy and daddy say it’s from other cars. I don’t think it comes from our hovercraft, It uses water, i think. Anyway, hows home? (Pause at every question) How are you feeling, is the stuff working? Thats better than last time, i’m . . . i’m proud of you. How are your Mommy and daddy feeling about it? Still crying? Well, where does cancer come from? It’s just there? Maybe it comes from cars and stuff, like my asthma. I guess that it comes from gas, like carbon-drain-oxide. I don’t like gas that much. I love passing it but getting it is--(shakes head). (exited) I like to play soccer and baseball. And I LOVE to play tag. (Serious/sad) But, then i loose my breath sometimes and i can’t play anymore. Why do people make things that are bad for kids, like bad stuff for my asthma and give you cancer? Do they hate us? Yea, i guess you’re right. Well look, we both have problems but for now, we’re kids, so lets just play with these monsta trucks and your (makes nasty face) Barbies. So . . . lets, enjoy the, the umm, little time we have left. . .
Monologue 3
Name: Sanyika Shakur, a.k.a “Monster” Kody Scott
Setting: A ex-O.G Crip legend in soldiery confinement speaks on the newly heard news of the pipeline. He has the wisdom of moses yet the youth of a 27 year old. He at an interview when he is talking, dateline NBC.
Objects: Reporter, bed,
“ . . . What i meant is that you’ll get use to it sooner or later, and that makes the process much easier. (Pause) The first couple times that you’re in here, unless you know some homeboys, then you could be good depending if they somebody’s bitch or not. (Pause) No, (Stand up Half-angry) I don’t hear no politics or news in here, this is solitary confinement, I get a hour of walkin’ a day hoe. (Sits back down) (4second pause) From the last time i was out, four years ago, i was learning about stuff like that: Ozin layer and atmosphere and gases and things. They’re too bad for people nowadays. (Stand up, pacing) Back in 81’, when i did my bid, i heard about things heating up the earth, and i was like, ‘What’, that don’t make any sense. How can can cars and boats make the world hotter. Bad bitches make the world hotter!’ Now that i Know its real, it’s almost like, how the hell can a little heat kill everyone. But that shit ain’t no joke. In, what; a couple hundred years the world isn’t going to be here right? (Stops pacing, Pause for short answer) Something like that. But, my two daughters are going to grow up in a fog inhabited world, and how will i feel when i have to tell them, daddy and his generation did this? (Sits) And we barely hear about anything in here, so if, lets say a big ass pipe was to go all around the world for oil or diamonds or bitches or something, and it let out so much gas that my kids died years later. Or diseases are formed from the amount of heat or gas. That hurts. (Pause for question) What, Wow! I swear to god i didn’t know. Thats crazy. But all non-the-less that just proves my thought to be fact. I have connections to the outside that can rely on, so maybe i’ll look more into that and see if and/or i can do anything from this shit hole . . .”

Keystone Pipeline Monologue project (Stephen)
Monologue #1
Am I making the right decision?
Waking up on this bitter morning, only thing on my mind is guilt. I feel guilty because I have to support my family but by doing so I am also messing up the environment. As a walk into the kitchen, (walks in the kitchen) I see my daughters bright smiling face. I think about her future and what she will grow to be. Am I making the right choice for their future? Or am I slowly destroying it. The choices I make now, depends on her future.
As I’m leaving out the door (heads towards the door) for work, my daughter says “I love you daddy.” Hearing those words are the best feeling in the world.
As I arrive at the construction sight, (walking to my station) I see the exhausted faces of the other men and women here to work on the pipeline. The same thing is running through out my mind that I woke up thinking about. I try not to think about it, but it keeps crossing my mind.
I ask myself, Is this what I should be doing? Is there another way I could support my family? These questions disrupt me every time I come to work. And they always will, I guess until I confront them. But until then, I have to get back to supporting my family.
Monologue #2
Does my future depend on the humans?
(Angry, grouchy) They can’t approve this. They can’t. Global warming is already affecting my family and I. My ignorant wife wants this pipeline plan to go through “it’s good for the economy it will help everyone!” “Not for us dumbass! You think they’re going to send any of that money down here to the ice caps?”. Then she gets an attitude for the rest of the night. (calming down) I shrug it off she’ll get over it by the morning. I wish she would sit down with me and absorb the information that the world news is giving to us. I don’t want to the bad guy but look at the news for god’s sake! We’re not a priority to them anymore. Ever since this global warming issue started to rise the whole neighborhood has been affected. I lost my brother Albert to global warming last year. He tragically drowned. We’re all suffering help us Lord! Food is scarce nowadays, we need some food on the shelf. I swam for an hour looking for food for my family. Some homes are falling off. Literally. (hopelessly speaking ) I go outside and look at the northern lights to look for an answer from god to my prayers to no prevail. I’m outraged, scared, and depressed, (Anxiously) I feel like I’m having a panic attack. What do I do? What can I do? Where do I turn? I’m trying to save my family. I go back inside and then a possible solution hit me! I suggest to my wife maybe we can get taken to the zoo and be saved! I heard in the Philadelphia Zoo they take great care of our kind. I heard they give all inhabitants a stable environment with your own living space and with a pool. “Sounds good right?... What do you mean that’s stupid?... At least I’m throwing out ideas, what are you doing to help?... Yeah that’s what I thought just walk away from your problems forever right?”. “She infuriates me!”... Aww what am I saying?... Everyone in the North Pole is trying to make it to the zoo to save their skins and the odds are horribly against me. I go the living room and sit in my favorite chair to keep myself updated on the pipeline. The Americans have already done their part in contributing to global warming which releases deadly greenhouse gases, melt the polar ice caps and raise sea levels, and these are just some of the effects that global warming has on the world. What am I supposed tell my son and daughter when they ask “what’s happening to our everyone’s homes Daddy?” I must lie through my teeth to protect their innocent hearts and tell them “everything’s alright” knowing that it’s only a matter of time before it’s all over. I pray everyday that they don’t approve this pipeline my home is already in danger and this pipeline will only speed up the process. They’re building it to save a couple jobs. How about you save a thousand lives! If they decide to do the right thing and say no to the pipeline we all could be saved. These days I pray, stay humble and live life day by day and spend time with my family because I know that our days together are numbered if they approve the pipeline. If I’m going to die let me die with my loved ones facing death on.
Monologue #3
Making a change
As I stand upon this stage this morning, (holding microphone) speaking to you all, one thing is running through my mind. Did they ever think how it could affect me? My neighbors? My family? All the people that call this place their home. My home, Texas. The people at TransCanada really don’t care about the well being of us citizens. They only care about the money. Their greed disgusts me. They think of us like were not humans too. We all share this earth we live on
I’d never thought in a million years that the government would allow something like this to even happen. It’s destroying not only the land but the lives of thousands of people. Their homes, their families, everything. Living around the fumes that are coming from the construction are deadly. The fumes and gases could make someone extremely sick or even kill somebody that inhales the gases and fumes everyday.
Where do they expect us to go? What do they expect we the people of America to do? Just back down from it all? We have to fight for what we believe in. Hopefully the president will see our cries for help and not approve this pipeline to be built.
(Raises fist) It’s up to us to make a change in this world. To stand up and never give up no matter how hard times get. It’s on us to make this change.
Monologue # 4
Living on this earth
I can’t believe this are they serious? I’m the only thing these filthy humans have for a home. (starts to grow angry) I’m irreplaceable! What other planet can take you in and take care of you like I can? Yeah I thought so none of them. I’m being taken advantage of every second of the day. These filthy heathens are either littering their cans, paper bags, or they’re releasing CO2 driving their cars and their buses. I mean c’mon show some respect! 4.6 billion years. 4.6 billion years I’ve supported every species that ever existed on this planet and I’ve always been happy to help. Giving them the gift of life, the ability to grow and prosper and this is how you repay me!? I’ve watched the human’s grow and evolve from apes to the prime human race. I’ve let you all live here on me for free and have never asked for anything in return. (in a heartbroken voice) Until now. I’ve been slowly killed off for years now and now the only thing I ask is that you repay me by not building this keystone pipeline. Do you not appreciate me? By building this pipeline the leaks will damage my clean waters, and infect my airs with dirty tar sand oils. I pray the humans learn the mistakes of their ways and start to appreciate what they have before it’s gone. Before we’re all gone. We only have but so much longer to live. All of you already leaked in my fresh waters before. Here’s some numbers for you BP leaked 3,850 square miles worth of oil and 4,768 animals were also killed in the spill. If we continue on the same path that we are headed down, no one will be able to survive and breathe this air we have been polluting for so long. I sometimes ask myself, how are these humans still living on earth? I’ve been trying to keep things on earth better for humans well being for 4,600,000,000 years. And I feel like by polluting the air and building this new pipeline that runs from Canada through Texas will only make things worse for everyone. It won’t be easy for me or them to stay healthy.(Deep breath) But what can I do? I’ve tried everything possible. You know the difference between right and wrong but when it’s comes down to it, it’s on you humans to step up and change the outcome this world will have.
#5
Am I the right president for america?
As I sit at my desk I think to myself, am I really the right president for this term? Am I prepared to lead this country another four years? There’s so much pressure on me. I have to appeal to the american citizens and show them that I’m the man with the plan. Time for change. It’s time for change. I’ve been extreme progress for four years now, and the republicans still don’t give me the credit I deserve on helping the economy and health care. Can I make a difference for four more years as president?
(takes deep breath) There’s a controversy going around the world about this keystone pipeline plan that wants to be built for oil to travel faster throughout the United States. The pipeline is 1700 miles from Canada to Texas. It has some great positives and some devastating cons. This pipeline will create 20,00 jobs for the unemployed, but it was also destroy the environment. The pipeline will create more ghastly greenhouse gases but safer and more efficient way to transport oil throughout out the United States. But also the economy is already in debt and this pipeline will cost 7 billion dollars to build. But then again it provides a lot of cheap abundant energy for Americans. As the president, I have to make a very tough decision on whether or not to approve this pipeline from being built. Will this be the right choice for families all around america? They depend on me. It will help the economy everywhere but what about those people whose homes run near the pipeline. It’s almost guaranteed to have a leak and ruin the soil. When the soil is ruined there will be no way for those inhabitants to grow their crops. It’s up to me to make the right choice, but what if I end up making the wrong one? (takes another deep breath) I guess only time can tell.
Appendix: The pipeline would carry oil throughout the U.S from Canada to Texas (1700 miles). Also the pipeline would cost 7 billion dollars, but it would carry 800,000 barrels of oil a day and it would create thousands of jobs. It’s way cheaper than getting oil from foreign countries when we can get it from an ally. The oil that’s being transported is extremely dirty, it called tar sands oil. The pipeline has a good chance of leaking and having an oil spill. If that happens it will damage the environment.
