Negative Space
It’s the left side of the paper, because that side is where it focuses on the background. Negative space art helps an artist to focus on the backgrounds. Negative space does enhance drawings because it makes illusions. It makes it seem as if the background is also a main focus.
Week 3 - Day 2 - blog - negative/positive space - cut out: Elijah Afrifa
Negative space, in art, is the space around and between the subject(s) of an image. The way to find negative space is by looking at the outside of the image. To the right of my which is surrounded in black is my negative space. Negative Space helps artists to see the subjects in their work. This enhances the artwork because it brings out the illusion of just having a subject with no details.
Negative space cut out
The used of two colors one light and one dark to create a picture. I looked at the cut out and realized that the yellow and green was just like the black and white on the original paper. I put the half green and half yellow after I created a full owl by connecting three pieces and put them on the yellow side and put the rest of the green side. I can create a picture that makes a full owl without using colored asymmetry. Negative space enhances drawing because it is pleasing to the viewers eye.

W3 D2 Negative Space - Ossowski
Negative space is the background of a picture. For example, say you have a picture of a tree, the background would be behind it, like the sky. That is all negative space. I fould negative space in my picture by looking at it symmetrically. The background in this is black, that is the negative space. I find negative space a representative for what could be there. For example, in this picture, if we zoomed out, we could add a background to make it look like a flag on a flagpole. It helps to see in negative space for an artist so they can show emotion in their work. If you look into a picture and it has a dark snowy background, you can assume it’s winter and that something is sad. Negative space can enhance pictures depending how big the negative space is. For example, back to the flagpole picture, that will enhance the picture. However, if you look at the picture below, the negative space does not enhance the picture because it’s so small.
Negative Space Cut Out
I found the negative space in my picture by tracing the lines of the picture with the blunt end of a pencil, then following the lines, I used the razor to cut out the pieces. I glued the positive space down first, then I used the pieces left over to make the negative side.
It helps artists to see into negative space so they can see the outlines of drawings, and it's a unique form of art.
Negative space can enhance drawings if used in the correct way. If the picture is mostly negative, then the darkness drowns out the picture and you can't see it correctly. If it's a good mixture or negative and positive space, the artwork can really be enhanced.
This is Unconstitutional Needs to Stop
Hello my name is Kyle Thomas and I go to Science Leadership Academy. I had been assigned a project that is supposed to be talking about problems in the world. I had to choose a topic that I had to do research on and had to do a agent of change which basically is like how was I going to get people's opinions.
My topic that I am going to be talking about is stop and frisk. Stop and frisk is when the police can stop you and pat you down on the outside of your clothing when the police officers believe that you are armed and dangerous. This topic is important to me because I think that it is unconstitutional. This violates the Fourth Amendment because the amendment is talking about the rights of the people. One part says “shall not be violated” and stop and frisk goes against that. It’s a problem right now because it makes people not feel like they are free. For example take a look at this picture right here.
This picture is from The spokesman review and it shows a African American being stop and frisk for no reason. You see Donald Trump and basically when he was talking about stop and frisk in the presidential debate he wanted to make the stop and frisk law be enforced even more in urban areas. So, like it would make African Americans feel uncomfortable/ not safe anymore because now the cops will be checking them for no reason. Also, I believe that this shouldn't be enforced more because that will make kids not be safe no more if they see cops stopping people and checking they probably will make them think “Will this happen to me?”
This picture is from Pinterest and it shows the race percentage of stop and frisk. Young Black Men is 25.6%, Young Latino Men 16%, Young White Men 3.8%. So, there is a big difference in which race gets it the most. I think that this needs to change because I don’t think that cops should assume that African Americans are guilty or up to something the most.
For my agent of chance I would like to interview a cop about this law and ask him some questions to see his/her opinion on this. It would be interesting to me because it will let me see how cops really think about this.
negative/positive space - cut out
A. Negative space is an art the incorporates the space between subjects in an image. Negative can be used to show to different images. We can look at the positive space and see an image, and then focus on the negative space and see a completely different image. Usually, for these type of images, we use two colors black and white. The subject in the picture is usually white and everything around it is white creating a silhouette.
B. I found the negative space in this picture by looking for the dark spots in my pictures. These spots created the image of a bat and defined the image I was trying to portray.
C. It helps an artist to see negative space in an image because negative space gives an image definition and brings balance to a composition. Also negative space should not distract from the main subject.
D. Seeing negative space does enhance the drawing. The dark space makes an image more intense and clear to see. Also the negative image is there so we can see multiple images in one. Negative space is also not constricted to only one form of art. It can be found in photography, painting, and graphic designs.
Negative Space
Negative space is all the empty space around an image or object. It doesn’t take interest away from the central drawing or idea, instead it adds on to the idea and compliments. On the right side the red in the background is the negative space because the black section is the main focus of the image. On the left side the black side of the image is the negative space because the red is the main purpose.
It is important for artist to see the negative space because it gives the image a main focal point instead of having everything be positive space and not knowing what to focus on. This helps artists know the difference between main points and backgrounds. It helps to see in negative space because it really helps differentiate the main parts from other things. Also negative space usually adds to the meaning of the image.
Negative and Positive Cut Out
In my cut the spaces that were not cut out was the positive so it was easy to see that what was darker than the other spaces is negative. The spaces were easier to see after the final product that it was actually the negative space. Negatives pace can easier to find as long as your focus is clear and know how your positive space would look without it.
It helps to an artist to see in negative space so that you can see what the focus is. Like in my example before with the tree and dropping apple they were what eye is drawn to finally. The background added to it, a.k.a the positive space, is additional to the picture to look at depth in the image. If we were just looking at the negative space in the owl picture then all we would see is the brown parts, that would be our focus.
Seeing in negative space does enhance drawings mainly because the viewer won't have to be scrambling to look for the main focus in a picture. The picture would have just positive space, which would not be that much of an image, unless you could work around that fact. On the other hand a picture with more negative space than positive, could be a picture just not showing the environment around the focus space.
Negative/Positive space - cut out
A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)
To easily see negative space you need to use two color to tell one from another, for instance if you look at the image above the part with the most space is the negative space, so the black, and whatever pops out so the green would be the positive space. If you want the negative space if you look at the streets and traffic would be the streets, and the positive space would be the cars.
B. Explain how you found negative space in your cut out? In my cut out you can find negative space by looking at which color is dominant, and has a taste of tension. The black appears more, and if you look at the middle it is jointed.
C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space? It helps the artist visually see the tree, so that the image is not overcrowded, space ables your eyes to stay focus.
D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not? Yes, it helps have a guide that is strict enough to prevent mistakes, but has enough flexibility when it comes to you imagination as an artist. Negative space is a healthy guideline, which will enhance the respect and dignity art work needs.
negative/positive
Negative Space
A.
Negative space is the area between the things in the drawing or photograph. In this photo it would be the purple on the left and the green on the right. As you can see it is not the image that I want you to see but it is the space around it.
B.
I found it by looking at the object, the owl in this case, and then paying attention to the space that is not the point of interest. I then cut out that area and the inside, the positive space, out of the purple.
C.
Negative space is important because it can help you highlight certain areas and it can also allow you to hide images inside an image. It can help us see an image more clearly. It also helps you show two things in one.
D.
Yes, because it can bring compensation to the image and help contrast the subject(s) of the image. You can use negative space to highlight positive space and make your subject(s) clear.

Sunflowers hold the meanings of adoration, loyalty and longevity. Yellow, the common colour of sunflowers, has many meanings; freshness, happiness, positivity, clarity, energy, optimism, enlightenment, remembrance, intellect, honor, loyalty, and joy. Sunflowers are meant to lift spirits, and bring happiness and joy to any person who sees them. They’re named after the sun, which is often associated with happiness and smiles all on its own. They’ve also been used a food source for thousands of years. Taking this into account, sunflowers should be recognized as the best, and most important flower.
Sunflowers, having originated in the Americas sometime in 1,000B.C., were used to supply food for anybody who needed it. When European explorers discovered the flower, they spread it throughout Europe and eventually the rest of the world. Everywhere across the entire world was talking about the beauty and usefulness of sunflowers. Today, the flowers seeds are used for cooking oil and margarine making, as well as being edible on their own. Their seeds alone provide a quick, cheap foodsource to people who need it. They’re nontoxic to the environment, and help prevent pollution while still producing food.
In some native cultures, Sunflowers have been used as religious symbols. They hold many meanings to different people, and their importance is worldwide. Sunflowers are known to help fight depression, as well. Not only are they the symbol of happiness, and the sun, the nutrients in their seeds raise Serotonin levels, which helps nerve function. It’s not clear if they can fully cure depression, as no one really knows if curing depression is fully possible, but they do help. Even if they’re not curing depression, in some organizations they’re used as a symbol of the fight against depression.
Sunflower seeds are also really great for physical health. While being nutrient and vitamin enriched, they’re full of healthy fats that help fight many diseases. They help reduce the risk of heart diseases, certain types of cancer, balances blood pressure, and combats bone conditions like osteoporosis. Their high vitamin E content also helps with skin health, and keeps the body healthy for much longer.
Sunflowers are beneficial in many ways, especially in a person’s mental and physical health. They have ties to religion, and provide natural and safe food sources with their seeds. People all over the world have been benefiting from the flower for thousands of years. For these reasons, they deserve to be recognized as the most important flower.

This is my best 2Fer because it's about a topic I actually enjoyed writing about. Most of the 2Fer's have been written last minute, or in the moment, on topics I didn't really care about, or they were so rushed it didn't even make sense as to why I was writing them. This time, though, I actually enjoyed writing it, and I feel like I still could've done better but I'm happy with the end result.
Negative Space
Negative space is the piece of part you use to cut out the image you are cutting. It like creating the second part of the tree. I found my negative space by knowing that the image I’m doing a cut out off is the other part of the image, so it’s the opposite. It helps the artist by visualizing the opposite space of an image. I feel like it does help when artist sees the negative because you see the other side of the image and shows theirs a lot of ways to see a image.
Negative Space Reflection: NEGATIVE SPACE
B. Explain how you found negative space in your cut out?
I found the negative space in my cut out by the colors. I was given an ordinary black and grey and white printed photograph and cut out the parts without dark colors. The primary image in the picture was something indescribable, so I dubbed that my positive space. I cut around that image for the outlines.
Negative space entails, most times, the placement of the main picture, or the positive space.
D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?
Positive space enhances an image. I say this because the importance of a balanced image relies on how much positive or negative space is there. Say you have an image of a big tree, taking up most of the page. The positive space will be vast while the negative space would have lessened due to the size of the tree. It a very give and take scenario.
Negative Space
1) Negative space is the area around the main point of an image, it is the space around an object.
2) I found negative space around the subject and the subject itself. Half of my cutout the pink was the subject and the other half the pink was the surrounding area of the subject.
3) It helps define boundaries to see the shapes you are drawing. It will make a silhouette of the main point.
4) Negative space does enhance the drawing because it it makes your eye concentrate more on the drawing because you try to find the subject.
Printmaking
Negative/Positive Space- cut out
Negative Space
Negative space is the space around the primary picture. If there were something drawn all of the space around it would be the negative space. I found negative space anywhere but where the tree was. The tree was in the picture and all the other colors were negative space. It helps an artist to realize how much space you have for your picture and how the negative space will make the picture look. If the negative space has a peculiar space compared to the picture then it could disengage the observer and vice versa. For me it doesn’t really enhance my drawing. I don’t know how to speak about other artist, but for me it only help me realize how much space I have on the paper to draw the picture.
MP1 Art Blog and Artist's Statement
Relief printing is different from other forms of printmaking. Relief printing is when the surface is sticking out of the block or plate is inked. Printmaking is then the pictures are made by printing it from plates or blocks. Intaglio is when the design is engraved into a material. The invention of printmaking was revolutionary. There is different processes for printmaking.
Artists are finding and using new techniques of printmaking. Graffiti is also a form of printmaking. Printmaking is a basically moving a picture onto a paper, stone, or wood. There are many ways for printmaking that artists use for their pictures. Printmaking is important because it's an easier way to many many copies of a picture. If we didn't have printmaking, it would take a long time to making another picture or something and it would also be hard to do it too.
I liked this picture and chose it because the colors of the black and the pinkish red stood out to me. I notice that both the color has a nice mix to it and blends together. It is also a dark and a light color and it matches very well with each other. I wonder if they added another light color to it would it bring out the picture more or not. What if they added all the colors onto the painting and overlapping it on top of each other?
