Artist Statement by Roberto A., Jalisa S.

This sculpture relates exactly to Jalisa Smith and Roberto Abazoski in many way. It's a vinyl doubling as an alien space ship hovering over the radio shooting its beams down to try and take it.

This unordinary experience is exactly what you'll experience when meeting Roberto Abazoski and Jalisa Smith. They're not aliens, but not normal either. They share an interest in music, old and new. Hence the vinyl and the boom box signifying the differences in music based on time. They "pick-up" on not only music, but everything else about them. The way they dress, their personality, favorite colors, etc. Roberto likes red, and Jalisa likes green. 

The list of meanings this sculpture has is infinite because the collaboration of ideas from both Jalisa and Roberto designed and built a new, original, and unordinary piece of art. 

Most people will not see what is on the sculpture, but this sculpture also means success, and understanding to them because this idea of lights on a circuit was new to them too, and when they got their circuit to work, it brought a sense of success that they finally understand circuits. Although, this can also relate to many people and things because this sculpture represents changing times, too.

DeShawn's Circuit Project

Artist Statement:
Initially, I had over 60-70 pairs of shoes. I’ve had a variety of shoes, but I didn’t necessarily wear them all the time. I had Nike’s I used to love to wear in middle school, dress shoes, miscellaneous sneakers, and boots. I wasn’t very fond of throwing any shoes away, so they accumulated on my shoe racks. And that’s how I got to almost a hundred of pairs shoes.

I was urged by my mother to get rid of the shoes I didn’t want to wear. But, in my mind, I wanted to keep them because I presumed I’d wear them sometime, knowing full and well, I’d never step foot in some again.

My love for shoes is indefinable. I became a collector of shoes. Many multi colored Nike’s were scattered in my “library” of shoes, a myriad of sandals, and sneakers. In middle school, I was always known for having such a diverse shoe style. I loved shoes so much, I’d buy inexpensive shoes from thirft shoes cheating myself into believing my 10 size feet would fit them, when they were one or two sizes lower. It was a sad cycle. And I knew I had to turn my ways around because I could spend my money on something else! Something that could actually fit me.

I began to get rid of shoes, persuaded by my mother. And the irony is, she has a multitude of shoes that she does not even wear. But, that’s beside the point. I put maybe 40-45 pairs of shoes in two large shopping bags. I put them to the side, eradicating them from my system. I got rid of the small, the big, and the ugly. Sooner or later, the friends the trickled into my home took shoes from my collection, the ones I removed. She nearly took over half the shoes! And I felt nothing of their departure. I was actually ecstatic, now know, I can replace the space.

I wanted to do a shoe for my project because they are wonderful and versatile. I specifically chose the shoe, I used, because it had a plain outside and I knew it would be simple and to the point. That was my aim. My own personal motto is “simplicity and convenience.” I wanted to convey that with the structure part of my project. White and black pixelated shoes, with ample, smooth front face room, was calling for white lights to accompany its design.

Simplicity, with a touch of white, a tad of black, and pizzazz!

Q1_Circuit Benchmark (Light-up Batman Cover) Briana & Merrik

The thing we choose to light up was the book cover of a Batman Vampire book. The reason we chose a book cover is that we like graphic novels. There were two copies of the Batman Vampire so we decided to use that one.  All the lights were meant to show the vampiric parts of the book. The bats and the eyes are one of the main things around vampires that we can find on the book cover. Just for emphasis we lit up the B in batman. The bright red lights were meant for looking like a vampire. In the book batman becomes a vampire and to show that we had his eyes light up. The bats are essential to the makeup of a vampire and to batman. Those were needed to show batman off.

Taylor Ximines Artist Statement

The inspiration for my physics project was simply just love. I am a strong believer in true love. And as much as I love “love”, I love dolls just as much. So I figured why not let my project reflect on two things that I have a love for. I decided to let my doll have a heart on her back. To be a symbol for love.

Rosemary Flite Artist Statement

​For my sculpture I created a dog that when its paws are put together its eyes and collar will light up. To come up with this idea, I tried to think of something I enjoy and what came to mind was animals. At first I wanted to make a cat light up, but since I was unable to find a cat stuffed animal I settled for a dog. Since dogs usually will always have a collar too I decided to make both its collar and eyes light up. When I first began its eyes were red, but then I ran into some problems, so I decided that they needed to be changed and I made them green. In the end, my results were as you can see in the image below; a green eyes dog with a yellow collar.

Michael Roth Artist Statement

I chose to use a stuffed animal as my sculpture because I have always had an affinity for animals, stuffed and living alike. I chose to light its eyes up because I think that glowing eyes look cool. They were originally intended to be red, as red glowing eyes are the typical robot-eye color, but I ended up using green ones, which look just as cool, if not cooler. The collar was added because it is a typical thing for dogs to wear. I was initially going to use the ears as the switch, but in the end the front pows were both more convenient to use and more realistic in appearance. Now, when the paws are touched together, the lights turn on. When the paws are pulled apart, the lights turn off.

We decided to make a sword because both me and my partner Nick are really hype about fantasy. Our first plan was to make a logo for the game company I run called Saber Entertainment. But then we found out that the other C.E.O., my friend Sean, was already doing it. So we decided we would make a sword. We put a lot of time and energy into this weapon. We wanted to make something that we could actually use. Once it was complete, we couldn't stop showing it off.

Artist Statement:

For our experiment our goal was to construct a working circuit made from a Nike sneaker. This experiment entailed many components. Before constructing this circuit we both knew that each of us liked sneakers, so thats why we chose to design a circuit made from a sneaker made by Nike. This Nike sneaker is beneficial for people, especially athletes who run at night because while runners are running the lights from the sneaker would illuminate the area around them. This helps people around them to see that that person is running at night. While making this circuit we decided to place four blue lights on one side of the sneaker and four orange lights on the other side of the sneaker and set them up in parallel series. The reason we placed the lights in parallel series was because we wanted each light to get equal amounts of voltage from the battery. We didn’t want one side of the sneaker to be dimmer than the other. After putting everything together we had a working circuit. Although we went through so much trouble with this experiment we still managed to develop a working circuit. If sneaker companies go along with what we developed there is a possibility that this specific sneaker would sell greatly in stores all around the country.

Q1 Benchmark Circuit Pictures – Daniel Varnis & Viet Le

Our sculpture was made designed inside of a compartment of a Lovaza water bottle The circuit contains Red LEDs for a few reasons. First, we both really like the color red. Second, we really like bright lights. And well, LEDs are very well known for being bright.

Also, we were trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible. So we used the water bottle, because were basically recycling for more than the basic use of drinking. Also, LEDs are VERY environmentally friendly so it worked out pretty well.

Walking in breast cancer style

  This piece "Walking in Breast Cancer Style" was inspired by the month of October. The theme for the month of October is to support breast cancer and the breast cancer walk. This piece is a converse sneaker marked up with the breast cancer symbol. The out line of the symbol is lit with pink christmas lights. We put pink everywhere! Pink trim of glitter, and pink tape, all showed that we are walking in breast cancer style. It's thinking outside the box, something new and inspirational. We wanted viewers to see the breast cancer symbol, showing that  breast cancer is a serious health issue around not only America, but the world. We will walk for breast cancer, any time!

Katherine & Byshera's Circuit Project.

Artist Statement:
Byshera decided that she wanted to include a hat with lights around it considering that it is the winter. She has always been the type to embrace hats and thought that it would be something cool to make like up. It would be something flashy, but not too bright considering that there were going to be many lights within her circuits. Being that 10 lights were used it was evident that this wasn’t going to be an easy task at hand. Before we were going to make a B out of the lights, but that would require too many of them, so we decided to figure out another way. We made two series that were parallel to each other which each had 5 lights. Although, as a group we knew that if we really wanted to create this sculpture we would take the initiative. Considering that we didn’t want only one of us to walk away with a sculpture, I myself (Katherine) decided to create something that is personal to me and slightly defines me physically, which are my bows. I decided that since I have so many bows to put in my hair I could make another one. The headband started off plain and I proceeded to wrap black electrical tape to cover the entire thing and create a bow around it as well. This headpiece is to light up around the bow to accentuate the bow and make it unique like something many people have not seen much today. Creating these lights, I made two series that were parallel to each other, one with 3 lights and one with 4 lights. In the end, we would both walk away with sculptures that we created and be content because not only have they slightly defined our work ethic, but we can wear and present ourselves accordingly.

Tyikenyua and Sara's Circuits project :)

Artist statement

We chose to build our circuit inside of a cheetah print wedge. We chose this shoe from any other shoe because we really thought it represented our point brilliantly. Tyikenyua and I are very involved in fashion, and that's something we share an interest in. We thought that this wedge represented our love for fashion well, because it was exotic and out there. It's fun, and something you would wear to a party. This shoe is creative, unique, and just looks like you would have a fun time. We feel as if that's our dedication to fashion is the same way.

Paulius Jeremiah Garcia-Trajano es mi nombre original cuando es bebe. Pauline Jade Garcia-Trajano es mi nombre completa. Es todo lo contrario de mi nombre. Mi mama y papa pensaban yo es un chico. Es muy divertido porque yo soy una chica! Mis padres son muy extraños. Es un Japón cultura en mi abuela familia. No obstante, mi papá familia es Española. Soy de Filadelfia pero vivo en Manila, Philippines. Mi mama, hermano mayor, y yo nos mudamos aqui en Filadelfia hace ocho años.
Soy Filipina, soy bajita y morena. Mis ojos están muy poco cuando risa. Mi pelo negro es medio y mis ojos es marrón. Se dice que mi pelo es muy hermosa y grueso. Soy flaco medio pero come mucho comida. Puedo comer todo el tiempo. Soy muy fuerte, pero no es muy visible porque soy flaco. Se dice que soy muy baja, para mi yo pensó mi altura es medio. Soy medio baja tengo 5'3" de altura. Tengo pequeños labios rosados y mofletes. Tengo los brazos y las piernas son delgadas pero soy baja.  Yo sonrío todo el tiempo. Mis dientes no son perfectos. Yo tengo extraño  diente. Mi nariz es pequeña. Se parece a un botón.

En la clase de español mis amigos escriben yo es generosa, cariñosa, maravilla, trabajadora, extrovertida, amable, intelectual, dinámica, graciosa, divertida, y ambiciosa en mi papel. Soy cariñosa porque me gusta ayudar  todos los personas. Soy graciosa porque doy chicles. Soy expresiva porque me gusta expresando mi opiniones. Soy sociable porque me gusta conocer personas nuevas. Soy talentosa porque yo poco violín, piano, y canto. Me gusta leer, bailar, comer, ver las películas, y cantar por la mañana voy a la como demasiado muchas comida. Yo soy la asistente al profesor, Señor Vk. Valgo mucho de la confianza porque es un importante característica para éxito. En el futuro yo voy para la universidad para mi educación. Quisiera mi clase junto con mis amigos. Sueño con las universidades que van a rechazar mi aplicación para en colegio. Yo estoy muy nerviosa y ansiosa. Me molesta mucho cuando una persona son muy tacaños y falsos. El es muy molesta porque soy cariñosa y no me gusta mala gente. No creo en infierno porque creo que todo el mundo va al cielo. Tengo miedo do en el ánimo porque mi hermano puede ver un ánimos y me da miedo todo el tiempo. Me siento insegura cuando gente que no conozco me miran. El es muy extraño y yo me enrojezco todo el tiempo.

Valgo mucho de familia porque mi familia es muy importante para mi. Amo mucho a mi familia. Es por eso que para mi, mi familia es mi todo. Sueño con tener mi propia familia feliz pequeña en el futuro. Sorprendentemente tengo un novio porque, el dar el paso salir con mi. Vamos a mantener con contacto. El es muy simpático, gracioso, cariñoso, y maduro. Me enamore con el. Soy muy expresiva y extrovertida. Estoy buscando chicos simpaticos, inteligentes, graciosos, y comunicativos. No me gustan los antipáticos, autoritarios, falsos, mentirosos, ni tacaños.

En la clase de español, me cae bien Manna porque somos locas y expresivas. Tenemos mucho perder el tiempo. Por un lado, mi amiga Sisca y yo somos unidas porque tenemos mucho en común. Por ejemplo, ella es muy sociable y cariñosa. Ella gusta conocer personas nuevas y gusta ayudar otros personas como yo. Sin embargo, tenemos nuestras diferencias. Sisca es muy tranquila y sentimental, soy muy expresiva y honesta. Lo pasamos bien cuando nosotros fuimos en actividades en la iglesia. Ella está enamorada de el chico. Es muy divertida porque el chico es muy tímido y huraño. Sisca enrojece todo el tiempo cuando el chico intenta enrojocer con mi amiga.

Lexy Babcock & Drue Boccuti ; Infinity Sign

Drue and I knew we wanted to create a sign made completely out of lights. We were stuck between many symbols like: a bow, an anchor, an infinity sign, a heart, and a cat face. We decided that an infinity sign would be easier than the other choices and also look really interesting lit up. We find the infinity sign cute and wanted to make a sign that we would want to put on our bedroom walls. In a more deep, metaphorical way, we find the infinity sign to represent the infinite possibilities in life.

“Mi Vida”


Me llamo Morgan Marant, soy de Filadelfia y vivo en Oeste Filadelfia. Soy muy madura porque tengo muchos adultos en mi vida. Me importa mucho las problemas de las mujeres por todo el mundo porque yo soy apasionada por los justos de ellas. Tengo un bolsillo de sol porque tengo un amor que yo adorar. En el futuro, quisiera una buen pareja de mi marido. Yo voy a tener exito y confianza. También yo voy a ser simpatíca y cariñosa. Me molesta mucho los estudiantes son antipáticos o inseguros porque es importante que los son feliz y cuidan con otros. No creo las mujeres necesitan dar el primer paso porque no es propio de u n dama y soy muy tradicional. Tengo miedo do de una cita a ciegas muy mal que estoy muy huraña y mi cita está una persona tacaño o autorotarío.


Soy Afro-Americana. Tengo pelo marrón y medio largo, y los ojos marrónes. Mis ojos tienen forma de una almendra. Tengo los ojos de mi abuelita. Yo llevo los contactos de ojós todos los días porque me gusta mis ojós. Mi pelo es de los rizos estillo de los rastafaris. Me encanta mi pelo mucho porque es diferente y muy llamativa. Mi mama es muy alta, ella corrió en la Universidad y ahora. Es por eso yo soy alta y atlética. Sin embargo, yo remo, no me gusta correr. Remo por tres años y me encanta eso. Por lo tanto quiero ir a una universidad con un equipo de remo. Me gusta cantar, bailar y leer. Me gusta las artes. A veces voy a cantar todo el día. Me pongo un collar de África todos los días. Según dice soy muy étnica, pero para mi, eso es mi moda. 



Soy inteligente por eso es el razón yo quiero a mis amigas porque ellas son intelectuales. Los demás dicen que soy realista y optimista. Es por eso que tengo muchas personas que son felíz en mi vida. No me gusta las personas que dicen el mundo están terrible. Quiero me rodear con las personas positivos. Mis amigas Jessica, Imani, Taylor y Nori son chicas muy positivas. Soy trabajadora y ambiciosa. Remo todos los días de la semana durante el año de escuela. Trabajo mucho duro en todos mis clases. Es por eso que no tengo un novio.No tengo la tiempo. Notas son muy importantes para mi. Fuí a una escuela muy competitivo y me cae mal los gentes muy competitivos. Notas no fué importantes. El medio ambiente de la escuela para mi fué muy mal. Sin embargo, asisto la escuela de SLA y me encanta mucho porque los gentes son muy intelectual y simpatica. Los profesores, los estudiantes y el director son mis amigos porque SLA es una familia. 


Para mi, soy muy llamativa y llevadera pero según dice todo lo contrario. Ellos dicen que soy huraña, pero me gusta ser solo. Me molesta las personas dramáticos porque es un gran pérdida de tiempo. 

Tengo ganas de las personas jovénes quieren atención. Es por eso ellos usen las red sociales para transmiten todos preguntas y problemas. ¡No son necesarios! Tengo un Twitter y Facebook pero no quiero transmite más información de mi vida. Por lo tanto, ellos que dicen soy tímida. Me gusta leo las personas que yo no sabe. Sorprendentemente, mis adivinas son correctos. Eso es un regalo que yo conseguí de mi padre. 


Soy una Cristiana. Me levanté en la iglesia de Christian Stronghold Baptist Church. Es por eso yo soy tranquila, segura, sensible y tradicional. Uso las características más cuando tengo una problema. Mi religión ayudé me cuando me duelo me ánimo. Yo rezo por mis amigos y mi familia muchos. La reza está relajante.
