OCD OCD OCD OCD
This is my second blog post for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Here is the link to the first blog post. My first blog post was mainly about what OCD is, and mentioned a few different kinds of compulsions.
I have created a simple survey to see what people knew and how they felt about OCD. I shared this with people I knew, my advisory, and a friend of mine shared it on facebook. I unfortunately only received 15 responses. Here is a link to my responses. This didn’t leave me much to work with. Out of these 15 people, almost all roughly knew what OCD was. 13%, or two people, out of the test takers had OCD.
I will be making an informational video for OCD awareness. This will be posted on social media sites. At first I was going to do a presentation, but I feel that a video would be more useful, as it could be shown to more people.
Things i could have done better was provide a better explanation. I will have to find and use more information on OCD. I have already found a packet that people can look to for reference.

My tutoring experience
Blog post #1 describes about how in general kids are struggling with English as a second language. Many kids struggle with learning English in school. They may get shy, lose confidence, and not participate within the classroom. Blog post #2 explains more about my first time experience with tutoring children. It includes a personal perspective interview with one of the kids I tutored.
Some of the things that I've done to raise awareness of that issue are, going up to schools or people houses and tutor their kids with homework or help them study. I try my best to help them so that they can see the work easily in and out of school.
My opinion is that, some teachers in schools need to find a better way to elaborate the lessons more with the kids. So that the children in school will get a better understanding of whatever information they need to obtain. This will help resolve any miscommunication that would prevent the student from gaining school work understanding.
After the tutor session, I've been communicating with the students teachers about their progress and giving the teachers my opinion in the form of suggestions to give a better result of the child's learning.
The changes I've made during this process are; elaborating the work for the children to get a better understanding of the work, motivating them to have the courage to do their work in and out of school, allowing them to try things on their own, and helping them to succeed in all of the work they would turn in.
I felt great helping and getting to know the struggles that these kids face. It gives pleasure in knowing that I am here to help resolve their learning issue. What I'd learned about from this project is, having patience, explaining things to a kid, and allowing the student to work the problem out on their own then assisting them if needed.
If I had more time to spend one on one with each student ,I would feel that they are completely confident in school. What is left for me is to, make sure that they try things on their own and when they are lacking assistance is provided for them.

Put the second paragraph on Page 18 (“A river cannot….”) into your own words.
“A river cannot rise above its source.” To me means that you can’t get something more out of what you already have, which is not true. This paragraph elaborates on this by concluding that in different data sets, we’re able to get way more information than we’ve been told. Thus, the saying a river cannot rise above its source can not be true all of the time.
What is the advantage of a stratified random sample and what difficulties does it pose, according to this chapter?
Advantages:
You can be sure that your samples are appropriately proportioned
Difficulties:
Each unit must only fit in one stratum
Explain why advertisers often rely on a very small sample to substantiate their claims.
If advertisers were to use large sample sizes then it would be harder to substantiate their claims and ideas.
What does the author mean on Page 45 when he says, “Hardly anybody is exactly normal in any way…?”
- What I took from the quote “hardly anybody is exactly normal in anyway” is that there are plenty of outside factors that can screw up data and paint a different picture. So nothing or no person is always normal all of the time, just like data. A clear example of this can be looking at data that suggests people who go to sleep before 10 pm receive higher tests scores. Sure, sleep is important but other factors could influence this conclusion. Things like what they ate the night before the test, what they had for breakfast, what they did in the morning, etc.

Temperance Moore Capstone
My capstone ended up being totally different than what I was originally going to do in the beginning. After some things weren't working out with my first idea, and then my second idea, I was stuck. Seriously, for most of this capstone process, I was totally stumped. Since a capstone is supposed to benefit your community, I was thinking of ways I could benefit other people by doing things for them, like fundraising, community service, donating, etc. But I wasn't passionate about any of those things. I love giving and being able to help other people, but I realized that doing things like fundraising, and community service weren't really my forte. What I didn't realize was that I could benefit people simply by giving them what I had within myself, and what took me so long to realize this is that I didn't think I didn't have much to give. I'm passionate about music, and writing, and that's how my final capstone came out. I decided to do an inspirational spoken word, and I put it up on youtube (although it's private now, I plan to make it public once I copyright it). My hopes is that it will one day benefit people by inspiring them and uplifting them. That is the whole point of my capstone.

So, this bibliography was originally for my original capstone, so the sources aren't relevant to my final capstone. But the methods from these sources are. Even though they're about fundraising, for fundraising you need to be outgoing and confident, which played a big part in my final capstone. The only relevant source was my ministry leader because she was my mentor for my capstone, and she helped me throughout the whole thing.

This site gives really good strategies on fundraising. It talks about how to develop a fundraising strategy, pointing out that a fundraising strategy identifies financial as well as other expectations of what I’m doing. I need a fundraising strategy to effectively prioritize my project, and target the resources I need to do that. It points out that one way to target your resources effectively is to know who your prospects are. Know who my prospects are will enable to me to target my efforts effectively. It also includes what a fundraiser should look like, what I want to achieve, and the resources I can use to have a successful fundraiser.

This is a photo of an anatomy to a successful event. It points out that an event is a system of elements working together to create a successful event to grow your organization. I can definitely use this photo to organize any events that I will have to fundraise. In the center of the photo is features, your event, and stemming from it are 4 categories: strategy, details, results, and promotions being the biggest one. Then, from those 4 categories stems other tiny little categories that need to be considered when figuring out an event. This photo points out important aspects to look at in order to have a successful event, and it will come in handy when I start planning mine.

This source focuses on fundraising methods for Christian Organizations specifically, and it also includes the typical results. I thought this would be pretty helpful considering that I’m fundraising for a Christian ministry, and since I plan for it take place in the church. It has all sorts of fundraising methods, and ideas. I like that the source gives you typical results for each method, that way I can know what will be a bigger turnout. So, I will definitely be using some of these ideas. While there are some ideas I will not be able to do, there are others that I can switch around and make it into my own.

This is yet another source on fundraising, but it focuses on fundraising for a women’s ministry. I figured that I could use this considering that the ministry I’m in is only women. Not that praise dancing can’t include men, but mainly females do it. It talks about how churches give very little budget or none even to their women’s ministries. In our case, it’s not that our church purposely gives little budget to us, it’s just that the church budget itself isn’t that big, especially when they have bills to pay to keep the church running. A definite idea that I’m going to be using from this source is having bake sales because bake sales always have huge turnouts, or at least some type of decent turnout.

This source gives an overview of what praise dance is, how it is a form of liturgical dance. It talks about how different cultures and ethnic backgrounds around the globe do it, and how it starts revivals in churches. Although I already have a background of what liturgical dance is, I used this to refresh my memory because I got taught on it a long time ago. Before I went into what I was doing for my capstone, I wanted to give a background on what praise dancing is because not everyone know what it is. This source was very good at covering everything about praise dancing in a brief introduction.

This is another source on fundraising ideas. I figured you can never have too many ideas. I’m not going to use them all but it’s just good to have a variety of ideas that I can choose from. I don’t want to stick to the same fundraising event. I do want to have different types of fundraising events because having the same one over and over can be a bore. I want to keep people interested, and in order to draw attention, and to keep them coming, I have to be creative. I also like this source because it’s alphabetized.

This is another source on having a successful fundraising in a church. As mentioned earlier, sources like these are really helpful because that’s where I plan to have all my fundraising events. Like the other source, they have an alphabetized list of fundraising ideas for a church. Also mentioned earlier, it doesn’t hurt to have too many ideas because the more ideas I’ll have the more creative I can be with fundraising in the church. Not only does this website have fundraising event ideas for churches, but it also has it for sports, school, cheerleading. So, it’s a pretty well-rounded website.

I mentioned in my proposal that I was planning to also start up a website for people to donate, as well as having fundraising events. This website is a place that I can do it on. I figured that if people wanted to donate, but couldn’t because either they couldn’t make it or were away, they could donate online. This doesn’t only have to be for people who know, but for also people who don’t know us. We don’t want our ministry to just happen in the church, we want to be able to present in different places. I think that making a fundraising website would help to get us out there, make us known to people who maybe desire to have praise dancers to present at their church.
9) Interviews
Interviewing the women apart of our ministry could also help with people donating. I was thinking that I could set up videos of interviews to get their perspective on what they desire to have in our dance ministry. I could use those videos, and request to have them played one day on Sunday, so that people can see our perspective, and can understand why it’s important to have equipment to practice with. I could use this as a way to draw people to donate to whatever fundraising event I plan to have, as well as the fundraising website I plan to build.
10) Ministry Leader
Throughout this whole thing, my ministry leader can be a huge help and source because she’s a lot more experienced in the leadership area. This capstone is going to require a lot of leading because I’ll be organizing fundraising events, and I’ll basically just have to be stepping up a lot more than usual. My ministry leader can be big help in teaching this. That is also why she is going to be my mentor for this capstone as well. I know that by doing this, I will be learning leadership skills as well, and that is why she is considered a source as well.

What we discussed: chapters three, four, and five (questions we had, things we agreed or disagreed with, were confused about, etc.).
The form of our discussion: we had an open discussion in which any group member could call out or respond to others' reflections. We tried to make sure that everyone spoke for at least a few minutes during the podcast.
Conflicts, disagreements: we still haven't really had any of those. Any points of confusion within the discussion were dealt with by other group members, just like last time. We all agreed with each other, for the most part.
Questions that came up as a result of the discussion: I guess one question that we had was, "how can we be mindful of all these tricks that people use to get what they want?"
We'll respond to the questions and discuss the article given to us and the ones we found on our own in our next podcast, when we discuss chapters six through ten.
screens vs teens the finale
In blog post one and two I talk about how tv makes teens depressed and violent video video games make us more For my agent of change I made a video that basically summarized my annotated bibliography and included all of the important facts. I also talk about how if you use your screen for an hour before you go to sleep it will typically take you an hour to fall asleep if you are normal. My brother helped me to film the first scene which I appreciate. I think the video is very good and clever and will hopefully raise awareness I will post it to Facebook and other public
media's even though it is already on youtube to try and get the most attention. I feel like as a side thing to this project I have spent less time on screens even though the project kinda required a lot of screen time. If I were to do this again I would film the agent of change sooner. Filming my agent of change was very tricky because I am no professional and I don't have fancy equipment so I have to find ways around problems; like when I needed to read off my script but didn't have a teleprompter or anything so I just taped it to the wall. Also I originally wanted to film myself doing fun stuff like swinging from the monkey bars or doing a handstand but their were a bunch of flaws with those desires such as I couldn't hang from my feet on the monkey bars because I had never done it before and I coudn't read my script when I tried to hang upside down, and when I tried to do a handstand I couldn't hold it for all of my lines and it was also hard to read my script because all of the words were upside down. Nature was also a hastle because I would have like to have filmed more things outside but it took forever to film the first few and by then it started to get dark and I didn't want to film in the dark because I don't have any fancy lights and stuff like that. My parents also played a part in where I filmed because my mom was on the phone for a while and I didn't want to bother her so I didn't film near her and my dad was working in his study at home so I didn't want to film near him also I felt self conscious when they could hear me recording, so I mainly filmed in the basement where it was quite. However I do not like to film in my basement for a couple of reasons
1 because the lighting is pretty bad
2. because it's really quite like creepy quite
3. and lastly it's really creepy mainly because of the lack of light and lack of sound but that just makes it all the more creepy and makes me paranoid, so that's why I don't like filming in the basement.

This is part of my chat with Jeff from google Enthony Chhin's Capstone
For my capstone, I created 2 parts. One of them being a mural and the other being a 10 page paper about teen culture before, during and after World War II. To begin with mural, I decided to paint things that had different meanings throughout different culture; positive messages only. This idea came to me pretty quick because SLA should be protected considering the fact that there is only one guard at our school. The mural took about 4 days to start. It took a very little amount of time to get majority of the mural done.
And for the other part of my capstone, I wrote a paper that was informative but also interesting. It took me a few hours to think of this topic because I really just wanted to get this essay out of the way because I knew it was gonna take time. At first I wanted to write about Lady Gaga but I felt like that would’ve been shooting myself in the foot because It didn’t connect to what was going on in the world. It wasn’t a interesting enough topic because no one is into Gaga as much as me. Anyways, I decided to write about teen culture because teens basically shape the world and the essay just talks about the different stages of teen culture throughout World War II.
Overall, My capstone is a reflection of me and I am proud of what I did & I hope SLA loves it as much as I do.

Political Double-Header and Nail-Biter Leaves Rockets 1 Inning Shy of City Final. Oh, But What a Season!!!
The Rockets tasted something bitter and foreign on Friday. For the first time in over a calendar year they did not walk off the field with a win. Their bid for a 17th consecutive win, "AA" Championship and entry into the City Final was denied in the 7th inning of a razor-close game with former champion Franklin Towne. There initially weren’t words to describe the feeling around 3rd base as the Rockets gathered one final time in 2015.
Their coach struggled to find the right ones, but centered on how rare it is for an athlete, at any level, to walk off the field for the final time winning it all. While they all dream of it as kids, the rarity of that possibility is not what truly drives them to take the field in the first place. It is to compete and to give the game everything they individually and collectively have within themselves. And in this mission they most assuredly did succeed.

How to Lie with Statistics Part 3

In this podcast we discussed the last two chapters and also article that related back to the book. Furthermore we discussed the rules of statistics and what to look for when you are analyzing a data set. We all seemed to agree with the points that each group member brought up in the discussion.
Brycen Itzko's Capstone
For my capstone, I did a teaching course for Project Space. I worked along three other seniors to create a four week course for two different classes. We each decided to each make our own teaching plan, with mine being about comets, asteroids and exoplanets. Every week one of us taught the class that day about their course. The classes occurred during the third quarter of the school year, with the students all being freshmen from Science Leadership Academy. The student I taught were well mannered and enjoyed the course that I was teaching. I created my course in such a way that the students will stay engaged and interested in what I was teaching them.
Capstones must use the five core values, Inquiry, Research, Collaboration, Presentation and Reflection. I have used these five core values as a guideline for creating my teaching plan. For inquiry, I had to ask questions such as how I can engage the students. For research, I needed to understand what I was going to teach about so that I could teach it properly. For collaboration, we had to figure out which order the four of us were going to teach in while also making sure that our teaching plans didn't overlap. For presentation, it was teaching the students my course.
Overall, my capstone taught me how to manage my resources more, while also helping to develop my core values so that I can better improve myself for the future.

The source overall is a excellent informational site that will be an important part of my capstone.

Overall, this source will be a major part of my capstone that will not only help me gain a better understanding, but also my students.

I selected this source because it talks about asteroids and comets, both of which I will be teaching about to my students. There is a interactive part that I will be able to give to students for them to engage and learn from. I do find this source limited in the fact that there’s not much other in-depth information, but it’s simple enough for my students to understand, which is an important part for my teaching plan. Overall I find this source to be helpful for letting the students get a hands-on experience.

This source provides detailed information about comets. While I do not believe that “.com” sites are useful sources, this source is very informational. This will help me get a good idea of the different subjects that I can talk about for my topic. Also this source helped me to widen my subjects since I had trouble with what exactly I want to talk about to my students. I find this overall to be helpful for my development of my learning plan while also improving my understanding.

I selected this source because it provides a very detailed and informational explanation on asteroids, which is one of my three main topics for my capstone. It also gives very in-depth detail on the many known comets that were discovered. I have found this source to be extremely valuable in my teaching for asteroids. While I am not focusing on this topic due to the limited I have to teach the students, it still provides me with enough information to give the general idea of asteroids.
Mentor (Derrick Pitts)
I chose Derrick Pitts to assist me for my capstone because he already knows a great deal of the topics that I will be teaching. I found him to be very helpful as he went over many things that helped me to improve my teaching. He told me about how to get the students to engage more with my topic, which is extremely important for teachers. He also explained why he was interested in my topics, which provided me an idea of how to keep my students interested while I teach. Overall, he provided me with fantastic ideas for me to improve on.
