For the most part, this was an interesting and exciting project. I loved the fact that we had to actually venture out into the city and find evidence of globalization.
I found that collecting the pictures was the most fun but it was also the most challenging. After a day of collecting photos, I realized some of them did not suit the topics. For instance, for energy I took a picture of PECO but really PECO is not evidence of globalization here. A better example was BP, a British gas and oil company functioning here.
Moreover, it was a pretty easy process collecting the photos. I first chose the 10 topics I wanted to focus on then brainstormed ideas and tried to connect them to globalization before I went out and got them.
My favorite photo was probably the Asian Bank one. I was just so fascinated by the idea that China created a branch to serve to a culture that chose to live here.
Although globalization is very evident in the city of Philadelphia, I think it is even more prevalent in bigger cities such as Chicago. Just from personal experience, I know that when I went to Chicago I was shocked by its size and even more diversity. And I believe that there are more opportunities for globalization when areas are more dense, more diverse and just bigger in general.
The next benchmark we
were given was the memoir vignette unit. This benchmark seemed like more of a
challenge then the first one. We had to take a moment from our life and
basically write a paper on it, this sounds easier then what it actually is. In
this paper had to be literary elements included, and we had to mark where they
were. This to me was the most difficult thing about this benchmark. I did not
believe that I was capable of making this work; but it did. This benchmark
taught me that I am stronger then what I actually previously thought.
“Back to Hell”
“If God had wanted me
otherwise, He would have created me otherwise.” – Johann von Goethe. (Opener)
Growing up my family
moved a lot. Up to the age I am now we have lived in 5 or 6 houses. In the beginning of second grade I
found out we were moving to Georgia. I felt like it was the worst possible
news. There were too many friends and family up here for me to be okay with
this. The only people we knew who lived do in Georgia were my aunt and her two
daughters. My parents told my two brothers and I we were moving to Powder
Springs, a suburb about 20 minutes away from Atlanta. I’d never heard of this
place and couldn’t point it out on a map.
The next couple months it consisted of packing up rooms and
throwing away old dolls that had one eye and half of her outfit
(imagery). The biggest reason for my resentment of moving; our house was
humongous. It had a basement, plus 3 floors. I thought no house could get
better than that.
The car ride down there even though I didn’t show it, I was
the saddest girl in the world. It was around a twelve-hour ride down there. In
the car I would look over at the farms that we passed as we were entering the
South. All I could think is what did we get ourselves into. There were papers
that had to be signed and the real estate agent had to give us the keys to the
house so the first couple of nights were spent in a hotel.
The day we moved in was
scary for me. We pulled into a subdivision called “Taylor Farms”. I found it a
little humorous that it had my name; as though it was telling me I belonged
there (personification). When we drove into the subdivision I looked in
amazement. There were mansion looking houses with perfect gardens and lawns.
Kids’ played with each other in the street, and adult were engaging in
conversation. Everyone seemed happy. We pulled up to a house that had a moving
truck in the driveway and I knew it was ours. Suddenly my whole mood changed.
It looked like 3 times of what our old house was. There was no chipped paint
on the house, no driveway we had to share, and no loud noises around (magic
three). In fact it was the most peaceful place I had ever been. My glass
quickly became halfway full.
As soon as we moved in
we were greeted with neighbors and open arms. They presented to be a little
too nice, like they were the Stepford wives or something (simile). They
brought by cakes and pies and went on and on about how excited they were to
have new neighbors. A week went by and I simply loved it. My room was twice
what it was before. There were three gigantic bathrooms, which meant not
waiting for someone else to come out.For the 5 of us it was heaven.
We started school about
a week and a half after moving. I ended up at Baggett Elementary School. I
quickly made friends with girls named Ayanna, Jillian, Taylor, and Danahja.
Danahja was from Chester, PA and had just moved down there to live with her
grandmother. I had lucked out, I found somebody who just like me was in a new
environment and afraid. Ayanna lived in the same subdivision as me, she lived
around the corner so she and I spent most of our time together. Almost every
weekend I was staying at her house since all the people our age lived on her
street and the creek was there. In movies they always show how kids in the
suburbs have a hangout spot, well ours was the creek.
In fact life down there
seemed like a movie. It was almost to good to be true. There hadn’t been not
one fight to my knowledge. The whole time I was down there I only saw the
police once. When my neighbors recently got a divorce and they were debating
about who was going to get the dog. Our next-door neighbor Mr. Miles and his
son were from Philadelphia also. So that was nice to have someone close who was
from the same area. My aunt and cousins lived 15 minutes away, and surprisingly
they were the only family I wanted and needed down there.
For two years my life
consisted of watching Disney Channel, sleepovers every weekend, and birthday
parties at a store called Lulu. (Magic three) Friday night seeing my older
brother play basketball, going swimming in my back yard, and having barbeques. (Magic
three) For two years my life consisted of nothing but pure happiness, but that
was sure to change.
My father was having a
hard trouble getting a good job down there. In Philadelphia he had a job that
paid very well. So our only option was moving back to Philadelphia. One
afternoon my parents called all of us in the living room for a “talk”. They
both had sad looks on their faces as though someone had just died. My mom
announced that there wasn’t enough money being brought in so we had to move
back. I quickly burst out in tears. I felt as thought she had taken away my
sanity. For two years I had been the happiest girl you had ever seen and in
that second all of that was snatched from me.
Moving back meant living
in a house that was squeezed tightly on a street with other houses. It meant
every night instead if going to sleep hearing sounds of trees blowing I would
go to bed hearing police sirens and people arguing. It meant moving back to the
last place I wanted to be. Why would my parents put us through moving again? I
hated Philadelphia and everything about it.
Why would we leave a
place where the nicest people lived, to a place where rudeness stands on every
corner? Trade a place where the most I got to do was go outside and play
double-dutch for a place where I could ride my bike and go for a walk. Why
would they trade Heaven for Hell? (Repetition for effect) Moving just didn’t
mean trading my front lawn for nothing more than a porch; it meant changing my
way of thinking. Moving back to Philadelphia meant whenever ever I go out I
would have to put on a facade instead of my real personality.
My Pop Pop always would tell
me to remember; when I die no matter how much I have or haven’t accomplished in
my life was always born Taylor Jane Ximines. No matter what my environment or
situation was I would always be me. The problem wasn’t me moving into a new
place, but letting a new place move into me. Everyone feels like they have to
transform but in reality if anything we’re find just the way we are. It doesn’t
matter if I live in Philadelphia or Georgia, as long as I know who I am
everything will be ok. Whether I’m in heaven or back in hell.
Macbeth was the first
benchmark project I ever did at SLA. It was one of the scariest things I had to
do (no I am not exaggerating). I was unsure how to get through it. The project
had so much that had to be included in it and the time I had to complete it was
not what I was use to. I was one nervous rack! For the Macbeth project we had
to choose a character (Macbeth or Lady Macbeth) and show how they changed
during the book. I chose to do Macbeth. I felt as though his character showed
the most change during the
play.
Macbeth’s Character Analysis - Benchmark
Thesis statement: Macbeth’s character has drastically changed
in the play from a courageous, kind-hearted soldier; to a cold blooded killer.
In Act 1 scene 2, Macbeth is on the battlefield killing enemies,
and his superiors are proud of him. He is ruthlessly killing soldiers for the
honor of his country. Captain tells King Duncan and Malcolm about how Macbeth
is doing on the battlefield. He states,” For brave Macbeth – well he deserves
that name. (Act 1, scene 2, line 16) It shows that Macbeth is a courageous
soldier. Without any question he is on the frontline for his people. Everyone
is proud of him and how he is doing.
When Act 1 scene 3 is taking place, Macbeth has just been told
of a prophecy where eventually he will become the king. Banquo and him were
both told a prophecy and some of Macbeth’s has already come true. While he is
aside he says that if he is meant to be king then everything will fall in
place. In lines 145-146 he says,” If chance will have me king, why chance may
crown me.” This shows that Macbeth is aware that he might become king, but is
in no rush to make it come true. He has just been crowned Thane of Cawdor so
now he is wondering about what will be. Macbeth’s character is showing that he
is not going to dwell on the prophecy that much. This also shows that Macbeth
is kind-hearted.
In Act 1 scene 7 Lady Macbeth has decided that King Duncan
needs to be killed so Macbeth can become king, but Macbeth is saying that he’s
not sure because Duncan is one of his closest friends and if they do he wants
to get it over with. He is alone in a room speaking and he says, “First, as I
am his kinsman and his subject, Strong both against the deed; then, as his
host, who should against his murderer shut the door.”(Lines 13-16) Macbeth is
second guessing about killing Duncan because he is suppose to be there to
protect him, and that Macbeth really doesn’t want to murder him for the fact
that he’s his friend. Macbeth’s conscience is making him think it over. Macbeth
is showing that he has a heart. This soon changes though.
The ending of Act 2 scene, Macbeth has just killed Duncan. He
and is paranoid and is hearing/seeing things because of what he has done.
Duncan was suppose to be one of his best friends and he murdered him. And he is
upset, while Lady Macbeth is telling him to stop being so nervous and scared.
She states,“ My hands are of your color, but I shame to wear a heart so
white.”(Lines 67-68). This shows that Macbeth’s character has feelings and his
heart is troubled because of what he has done. Because Duncan was his friend
and he killed him, now he is feeling the guilt. Lady Macbeth is trying to get
him to calm down; this shows that Macbeth’s character is still not in a role
where he is in.
In the beginning of Act 3 scene 1, Macbeth is now saying that
Banquo is standing in his way of getting the position of king. And now he is
ready to have him murdered to get him out of the way. Macbeth is starting to
become greedy when it comes to him wanting power he says, “ Whose being I do
fear; and under him, my genius is rebuked, as it is said, Mark Antony’s was by
Caesar. He chid the sisters, when first they put the name of king upon me.”
(Lines 55-58) Macbeth is now becoming power greedy. Banquo is supposed to be a
very close friend to him, and now he is plotting to murder him. This begins to
show what is to soon become of the new Macbeth.
In Act 3 scene 2, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are talking about
killing Banquo and Fleance. She feels as though it is unnecessary to murder
them. She feels as though it serves no purpose, but he is insisting that they
be murdered, and he assures her he will take care of it. He tells her, “Be
innocent of the knowledge, dearest chuck, till thou applaud the deed. Come,
seeling night, Scarf up the tender eye of pitiful day, And with thy bloody, and
invisible hand.” (Lines 46-49) This shows that Macbeth’s character has changed,
before now he felt unsure when killing Duncan. Now it seems as though him and
Lady Macbeth have emotionally traded places. He is ready to kill Banquo with no
question, while she is wondering whether to do it. This is showing how he has
changed from the beginning of the book.
When Act 4 scene 1 emerges, Macbeth has heard that Macduff has
fled to England. And even though there is no real reason to kill anybody
besides Macduff, he has decided that anybody who is in his castle will be
killed. Macbeth is furious and wants everybody dead. He tells Lennox, “The
castle of Macduff I will surprise, Seize upon Fife, give to Th’ edge o’ th’
sword, His wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls that trace him in his
line.” (Lines 172-175) This shows that Macbeth has turned into a heartless
murderer who is just killing people now for the sake of it. It is becoming more
evident that now he is just ruthless.
In Act 4 scene 3, Macduff and Malcolm are talking to each
other about Macbeth. They are about to form an alliance against him, and
Macduff is telling Malcolm that they don’t get any worst than Macbeth. They are
ready to fight back against him and get Scotland back. Macduff Tells Malcolm,“
Not in the legions, of horrid hell can come a devil more damned, in evil to top
Macbeth.” (Lines 56-58) This shows that everyone is aware of who Macbeth has
become. That he is not the same. The character has now turned into an evil,
cold hearted, greedy murderer. Malcolm and Macduff once thought of him as a
noble man, now they are ready to kill him.
In Act 5 scene 2, the alliance against Macbeth is formed.
Everyone is aware of the crimes he has committed. There is no turning back now,
the once courageous soldier, is now a power stealing greedy King, and they are
ready to fight back. Angus tells them, “His secret murders sticking on his
hands. Now minutely revolts upbraid his faith breach. Those he commands, move
only in command, nothing in love. Now does he feel his title hang loose about
him, like a giant’s robe? Upon a dwarfish thief.” (Lines 17-22) Macbeth’s
character and title is about to downfall. The fact that he is now wrongly king
is coming back to him. His title is about to get taken from him. Because he was
so impatient and was power hungry he made a lot of mistakes. Now he is about to
pay for them.
At the end of this book in Act 5 scene 8, Macduff and Macbeth
are fighting; Macduff informs Macbeth that because he was born by from his
mothers womb untimely ripped (C-section) that he is able to kill him. Basically
he is telling him to surrender because there is nothing left to loose. It is
all over for Macbeth at this point. So Macduff tells him, “ Then yield thee
coward, And live to be the show and gaze o’ th’ time. We’ll have thee, as our
rarer monster are, painted upon a pole, and under wit.”(Lines 23-26) Macbeth at
the end of the book is a coward. He is in a position where he knows he is about
to be killed. His title that was wrongfully given to him is about to be ripped
away. It is nothing left that he can do. All hope is gone at this point.
In conclusion, Macbeth in the beginning of this book was a
well-respected, decent man. By the time the book is over he is an evil murderer
who everyone wants to be dead. He let the fact that he was told he would be
king, be the cause of his downfall. These quotes have shown how Macbeth let his
greed for power loose everything he had. Nothing positive came from his
decisions. Shakespeare’s message to us was that you should always be happy with
where you are, and never try to rush anything. This lesson can still be used
today, as long as you apply it to your situation.
I must thank Alex for inspiring me to read A Brave New World. Though, I have no doubt I am missing its most basic themes and insulting the book, its author (The long dead Aldous Huxley), and perhaps even the publisher by even looking the novel. Nonetheless I shall continue. It is lovely. A tad sad, vaguely frightening but lovely.
It seems as if stories recently have change to a sort of countdown until the end the school year, So I'm going to add to this feat. Two days until no classes, two weeks until graduation.
Today is the last day I will be student teaching green stream drama. At first I was sad that I was leaving but then I remembered all the good times. And I know I'll be visiting a lot so I'll see them hopefully and be able to say hi.
I
found this project to be very easy. All my pictures just appeared to me. I
didnt have to look for them or nothing. Such as my favorite picture. A boat
from Hong Kong named St. gabriel. I was leaving a dock when i took the picture
and i talking to a bunch of guys about the boat so as i was leaving i
remembered that i needed pictures for my history project so i knew i could use
this picture. The picture came out really nice, and this was the first one i
took so i felt really attached to this one. All the other pictures i took just
appeared or i already had on my other phone such as the crow eating the body
picture. As for globalization in Philly, i feel that there is way more than i
thought there was initially, but i still think a place like New York has more
globalization in it. The simple fact that they are more popular, which brings
tourists and people all over to liver there and also way more advertisement
going on there.
As previously stated, my musical instrument of choice for the “Science Rockers” project is an acoustic guitar. I am not exactly sure how I’m going to construct it but I have a general idea based on what I saw when inspecting the other guitar that a student made last year. I’m going to need wood for the bridge, actual guitar strings of different lengths to represent different notes as well as a hollow box of some sort to resonate the sound when the strings are plucked. (ex. cigar/tissue box)
As we get more in depth when learning about waves I can more easily understand how a guitar works when those different strings are strummed. I have found that when the strings are strummed, and vibrating they help move around the rest of the instrument. Part of the vibrations from the strings reverberates through the back of the instrument and through the empty cavity of the guitar, called the sound box. These vibrations will escape through the sound hole that is on the body of the guitar. So most of the sound comes from the strings but the body of the guitar helps to resonate those sounds/vibrations and pushes them out of the sound hole that is located underneath the portion of the strings that the player strums.
The thing that changes the pitch when the guitar is played is the different sized strings. Each string varies in width, with the top of the bridge containing the thickest string and the bottom containing the thinnest. Also, at the top of the bridge there are prongs that can tighten up or loosen the tension of the strings, which also alters the sound, or tunes the guitar. I have a general idea of what I will use to construct my guitar but I am still wondering if the sound of the guitar will be loud enough and/or how I will be able to make it loud because, unlike a real acoustic guitar, mine is bound to have holes or cracks other than the required sound hole that allow the sound to escape or trail off which makes it harder to hear.
What did you find most challenging about this project?
I think that most challenging thing about this project was just making sure I handed it in, in a timely manner.
How did you go about collecting the images or selecting the images?
When we did the brain storming, I used that as my key guide to have an idea of what photos I was going to take
Which image is your favorite? Why? Elaborate.
My favorite photo was the rainbow sign because I was always so curious about it. I knew It had to deal with the LGBT but I never knew the exact details.
How prevalent is the evidence of globalization in Philadelphia? Do you think it is more or less so (evident) than in other large cities in the US? Why Why not?
Its prevalent in philadelphia but not as potent because I don't think many things happen here in philadelphia that really deals with globalization except the chocolate importation.
For this we had to pick a book and do a creative project or a two page paper on the book like your opinion main points, what we should know about the book .

Book review
The book I read was I am an
Emotional Creature by Eve Ensler. It is a national bestseller.Bust Magazine loved the book also
Seventeen Magazine thought it was not just a new must read book it is the start
of a whole new movement. The Los Angeles times thought it was powerful.
This book is fictional monologues
written by Eve Ensler inspired by teenage girls everywhere. It’s about girls
who don’t fit in, have problems at home, or eating disorders everything a
teenage girl can possibly go through. There are no main characters its just all
about girls. The conflict in the book is that Eve Ensler wants everyone to be
who they are and not be scared of it but the reader needs to finish the book
and understand it to find out who they are. The theme I think that fits this
book is be yourself no matter what. What I think the readers should take away
from is book is that everyone has problems and if you have someone there for
you or someone who has the same issue you can get through it and live your life
happy.
I can relate to one of the
monologues in the story that’s called The joke about my nose the reason I can
relate to this is because I have a big nose and I was made fun of for it from
some people and that is what was happening to the girl. To solve her problem
she got a nose job and when it was over she realized that nose made her who she
is.I felt the same way she did
trying to figure out that my nose was a part of me other people had to accept
it.
I loved this book so much because
Eve really tried to connect with the girls and the readers and I feel as though
it worked for me and hopefully every other girl that read it.Strengths about the book is that it was
broken into sections which made it easy to read. Eve put girl facts after a
couple of monologues to keep the reader interested in the topics. Also the part
that I liked the most is the beginning before the book starts she wrote a
letter to the readers and then an introduction I think that that made the book
so much better.I didn’t think
there were any weaknesses in this book.
If I could change something about
this book I would want to make it a sequel like the other books she
published.
I would recommend the book to girls
especially. If you really like to learn about people around the world and
what’s going on then it’s a good book for you. Also if you think you have
something wrong with you read this book, it will help you out a lot.
To finish off the year, we were assigned a project to take notice and find the influences of global factors in our day to day activities. We were to show how the world is generally connected. At first I didn't think the project would be too difficult because I assume most parts of the world just weaved together somehow of some sort. But in a sense I was wrong. I wanted to find deeper connections between things and not be so obvious but the more I thought about it the more exhausting it got. It was challenging to take/chose photos. I started off with a bunch of photos that eventually ended up being to only a few/couple photos at max. I just went a little crazy with the camera for a bit but I had to get that under control after reviewing the photos and not being able to make sense of the things I captured. It was either no connection at all (that I could think of) or I already have something like this.
I would have to say the favorite image of the entire project is a tie between the distinguish school 2009-2010 banner (education) and CASA set up in liberty place (organization). It's a tie between the two because I guess they mean the most to me. The banner picture is one of my favorites because I have pride going to Science Leadership Academy and I was extremely excited to see this hanging up in our building. The CASA is also one of my favorites because of what they do and stand for. I appreciate how they work to advocate safety for abused or neglected children. But I'll tell you, it wasn't easy finding these images or connections. I'm not sure but I would have to say it wasn't the easiest assignment for me, just me though. I think if I traveled more it would have been helpful. I feel like in the city of Philadelphia that evident of globalization would be pretty prevalent and not less evident. Philadelphia is an average city in my opinion, but very very diverse so cultures definitely pop up everywhere. I think it be even more evident in bigger cities because in small cities, I feel like some things would be uniformed or of the same thing.
1.Liberty
Bell
According to the National Park Service website; in the 1800s, the liberty bell
traveled around the country to expositions and fairs to help heal the divisions
of the civil war. It reminded Americans of their earlier days when they fought
and worked together for independence. It represents how we got our independence
and therefore the influence of the colonies from Britain.
2.Council
of Spanish Speaking Organizations
the Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations is the leader for Latino
services. Their mission is to ensure equality that equitable social,
educational, cultural service and programs are made available to the
Philadelphia community. They
are also the ones that organize the Puerto Rican Festival. They get involved in
the needs of the Latino community.
3.Save
the date
He predicted judgment days on May 21 2011 and his prediction went all over the
world causing a tremendous fear in different countries. Its amazing how this
particular person could convince millions of people that the end of the world
was on may 21 (2011) Christianity is the dominant religion in the city of
Philadelphia and that’s probably why we believed him.
4.Puerto
Rico Parade
The parade most of the time begins at 12 noon at 16th street and john F. Kennedy
Boulevard. The entire Latino community gathers this day to celebrate
Latino/Puerto Rican culture. Over the past of the years, Latino population has
increase in Philadelphia and this is shown every year at the Puerto Rican
parade with more than 5,000 people in attendance.
5.Science
Leadership Academy
This school is able to cross distance boundaries to get a better understanding
of education. Educon hosted by the Science Leadership Academy in Philly is a
both a conference and a conversation about the future of school. Educon is a great way of
bringing people from all
over to gather together and talk about the future of school.
6.Tierras
Colombianas
this restaurant is bring the best of the Latino gastronomy together. Here you
will be able to find the most delightful Latino/Caribbean dishes. It also has a
wonderful selection of quality domestic and international wines. This
restaurant brings a little bit of the Latino food to Philly.
7.American
Jewish
American Jewish is a museum that was recently open in Philadelphia. The mission of this museum is to tell
the stories of the Jewish and show some of the artifacts that they gathered.
The American Jewish history was and will always be a big part of the American
culture.
Many different ethnicities background can be
found at Spruance and that’s why the school requested a mural about the theme
of immigration. This mural represents the different type of background that can
be found at not only this school in particular, but instead the entire city of
Philadelphia. According to metropolitan policy program, metropolitan
Philadelphia has the largest and fastest growing immigrant population, which in
2008 was standing at over 500,000 comprising 9 percent of the total population.
9.Cleopatra
the exhibit of Cleopatra features artifacts, and takes visitors inside the
present-day search for Cleopatra, which extends from the sands of Egypt to the
depths of the Bay of Aboukir near Alexandria. Through Cleopatra we will be able
to comprehend and analyze an entire different culture and draw our conclusions
about the wise decisions and the thoughts that possibly crossed Cleopatra’s
mind at some point.
10.Circle
of hands
the diverse yet converging hands symbolize the community's commitment to ending
racial division. This mural was created after racial violence in the Gray's
Ferry neighborhood. This mural represents the great amount of diversity
backgrounds that can be found in the city of Philadelphia.

reflection: Every single aspect of this project was challenging. It was hard
to connect and explain why a picture represents globalization in Philadelphia.
It was difficult to find pictures that were appropriate for this project. It
was challenging overall.
One of the things that I was scare of was to not be able to find/collect enough
images and it was became reality. I didn’t have enough images and if I had
images I couldn’t see the connection between that particular image and
globalization in Philadelphia
image # 6 is my favorite one. It’s a picture of a Latino restaurant, in my
opinion one of the best restaurants for Latino food. This is my favorite image because the
restaurant represents and reflects the increase of the Latino community in Philadelphia.
Before, there weren’t as many Latinos in Philadelphia as there is now, and it
reflects in the growth of this restaurant. When they first started it was a
small restaurant with a couple of tables, now they have three “Tierras Colombianas”
around the city.
So "endeth" the final history benchmark I will ever do at SLA. It's been a long four years. I'd say this project was difficult in its entirety. It was hard to pick 10 adequate Philadelphia representations of globalization. Some of the things we thought worked didn't count. However the hardest part was probably getting all the pictures. It was a bit aggravating to travel all around the city to take photos, and took up time. The first day I just wandered in the direction of China-town, hoping to just snap away as many workable pictures as possible. I hadn't yet figured out each example I wanted to use, but still wanted to utilize the photography day. After that I figured out what was left and got those independently. My favorite photo is probably the one of the reading terminal market, not for historical reasons or picture aesthetics, but because that place has ridiculously good food and I have been going since I was a little kid. I think globalization is present in philadelphia, but not always in obvious photographable ways, but in ideas. However it is an urban area, so the globalizations factors are pretty prominent. You could probably see evidence in any city, though prominence may vary based on location (wall-street, white house, gayborhood...) Cities have always been cultural crossroads, and areas of attractions to other countries.
This Project was interesting to me, it wasn't too difficult to complete after I knew what pictures I needed, the hardest part was finding things to take pictures of. I had a really hard time taking the pictures of the right buildings, and artifacts, and trying to make it interesting all at the same time. I selected the images by narrowing down which building, or idea could be used for certain topics, and then finding that location and taking a picture of it. My favorite image on this photo essay would have to be the photo of the Chinatown Arch, because although it is faded in my project, it was the coolest picture I used and looks really interesting. I feel as though if I knew what I was looking for, and we had talked more in class about where to find some things that relate to each topic this project would have been a lot more about learning how they work into globalization, and less about what picture goes with which topic. In Philadelphia, I think that Globalization is less prevelent than in other cities such as New York and Los Angeles because those cities get a lot more immigration, and new businesses than we do, they are better positioned for more prevalent globalization to occur.
The project itself seemed to pose quite a challenge when it came to finding Globalization within Philadelphia. Although, I did enjoy it somewhat when it came to traveling around town and snapping photos of the images. Some conflicts did arise with when you have to find relations and try to explain them without much bulk in content to the photo and Globalization. I had to choose images that I was able to get access to, things that were actually in town. Out of all of them, my favorite image would have to be the ones in Chinatown. Not only did they have depths in some of the photos but I enjoy that place the most since it's got most of what I enjoy. But I think Globalization isn't prevalent in Philadelphia, it's not as strong as it can be since there are other cultures clashing at the same time with the people itself.
The most difficult part of this project was finding data about
individual aspects of Philadelphia and finding a way to incorporate
those stats into the paragraphs. All of the other parts were simple
once you stopped worrying about how you were going to get them done
and actually started doing them. My first step in getting my pictures
was going topic by topic and thinking of something in center city/my
neighborhood that involved the topic. Then all I had to do was go out
and take pictures of whatever it was. My favorite image is the picture
of our school because it's a bangin' picture, but that isn't the image
that best encapsulates the effects of globalization in Philadelphia. I
do the best job of showing/explaining the effects of globalization in
Philadelphia with my image of the GAP bag. Even though I didn't go too
deep in depth on the topic, I still wrote more information about that
topic than any other mainly because that's the issue I know about more
than any topic in the world. Globalization is naturally more prevalent
in large cities than in small communities, so there is evidence of it
everywhere in Philadelphia. When comparing Philadelphia to the other
large cities in the United States, I think that we are all pretty much
on the same scale in terms of how prevalent it is.
p.s. I apologize for the crap I turned in, I just figured it was better than nothing.
I
have been in English class for my whole life. But this one feels like I
actually learned something. I think that my portfolio will show that, my work
is so much better than it was when I first came to this class. Just looking at
my work I think that people would notice how creative I am, I try to do things
different but sometimes it doesn’t turn out right.
According
to what I see in my work, my strength in this class is writing. When ever I
start to write I can go on and on as long as I have good topics to talk about. But my number one weakness this year is
remembering what work I have to do. If I remembered what work I had to do I
think I could of got a A in this class. So, I guess all I have to do next year
is pay attention to the work given to me and remember to do it.
I
never did anything like this in my life, so this is my first time. So far it’s
pretty fun and kind of easy. But on my first benchmark I deleted it from my
computer so I had to write all the pages over, and my paper was more than 5
pages long. But I did it. I wrote all the pages over and I think it is much
better. Going through all of my work from the beginning of the year to right
now, I notice how much my work has change. My work sound so sophisticated and
doesn’t look like a little kid wrote it.
I
have to say my most favorite piece of work is the “Me magazine”. The reason
why, is that once I made it the whole class knew about me and I didn’t have to
go up to them one by one just to show them what I like to do and my interests.
Also making the magazine was fun.
Introduction: My first benchmark of the year, and I did
awesome on it. Macbeth was one of my favorite books to read and I think one of
the books I didn’t fall asleep reading. On this benchmark I had to make a
thesis about Macbeth and show why my thesis is true with examples and quotes
from the book.
Thesis: Macbeth
changes a lot throughout the play. At first he was a bold, awesome warrior.
Then at the end he became a mean bloodthirsty killer.
Macbeth
In act 1 scene 3 of Macbeth, the witches said that Macbeth would become
king. So Macbeth stands and talks to him self to see how it will be done.
Macbeth wonders if he has a change to be king, but how will it be. Macbeth says
to himself “If chance will have me king why, chance may crown me with out my
stir” (Act 1.3) What Macbeth is trying to say is that if he has a chance to be
king, can the chance make him king without him doing anything. Right now
Macbeth is confusing about the king situation. When the witches came he was
like (Huh?). He was thinking to himself when he said this quote but he said it
out loud. Which means that he is wondering what will happen next? Now at this
moment, Macbeth is trying to become a warrior to a king,
In act 1 scene 4 of Macbeth, King Duncan and Macbeth is having a
conversation about Macbeth being promoted to Thane of Cawdor. King Duncan is
making Macbeth promoted because he is being a grate loyal soldier at this
point. Macbeth says to Duncan “Stars hid your fires, let no light see my black
and deep desires., The eye wink at hand yet let that be which the eye fears,
when it is done to see” ( Act 1 scene 4 lines 50-53). When Macbeth is saying
this line he means to say that he will become a good thane but he doesn’t want
anyone to know what he is thinking inside. The thought of killing Duncan needs
to hide at this point. But for now Macbeth is getting promoted to thane and now
he has proven to Duncan that he can be trusted and become a more awesome
warrior.
In act 1 scene 7 of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth is having a
conversation about killing King Duncan for Macbeth, so Macbeth can become king.
But Macbeth doesn’t want to because Duncan trusted Macbeth so much that he is
sleeping over Macbeth’s house. Now id he attempts to kill Duncan and fails it
can lead to serious consequences that can lead to Macbeth dying instead. In line 1-2 of act 1 scene 7 Macbeth
says “If it were done when tis done then twere will it were done quickly’. What
Macbeth means by this like in that if Macbeth was to kill Duncan why not get is
done right now and as soon as possible. Macbeth is still thinking if he wants
to kill Duncan, but can he just make up his mind. At this point Macbeth is
changing to a mean person and deciding to go and kill Duncan.
In act 1 scene 7, Macbeth is talking to himself about if he should kill
Duncan or not. He does not know what to do and also is thinking what will
happen if he succeeds or fails. In line 6-7 of act 1 scene 7, Macbeth says “But
here upon thus bank and shoal of time we jump the life to come”. This quote
means even though what happens when Macbeth kills Duncan he will move on no
matter what happens. Now Macbeth does not know if he should still kill Duncan
but this show that he wants to kill him even more even though it will hurt
Macbeth. He is showing more of his evil side.
In act 2 scene 2, after the death of king Duncan, Macbeth and lady Macbeth
is having a conversation, Macbeth is saying that he will not sleep ant more.
From the quote in act 2 scene 2 lines 40-43 it states “ Sleep that knits up the
revealed sleave of care, the death of each days life, sore labors bath, balm of
hurt minds, great nature’s second course, chief nourishes is life’s feast”.
This is a quote saying what he did when he was sleeping but from the context he
will not sleep anymore and no more of this will happen. But Lady Macbeth is
making him go to sleep. At this point Macbeth is going a little bit insane
after he had killed King Duncan.
In act 2 scene 2, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth is still talking to each other
after the murder of King Duncan. Macbeth is dating that he will never go to
sleep again because he had just killed king Duncan. After seeing himself kill
Duncan he is feeling very guilty and Lady Macbeth is forcing him not to. In act
2 scene 2 lines 55-56 Macbeth says, “ I am afraid to think what I have done,
look on’t again I dare not”. This means that after Macbeth killed king Duncan
he is not scared to think about what happened but he does not want to look
back. At this point Macbeth is becoming scared but is trying to stay strong
about what is happening. Macbeth is becoming meaner and meaner by the second
because he feels scared, also happy that his task is done and he will become
king.
In act 2 scene 2, Macbeth and lady Macbeth are still talking to each
other after the death of king Duncan. While Macbeth has blood all over him,
lady Macbeth is telling him to wash off all the blood but Macbeth is still
panicking and scared. In act 2 scene 2 line 58 Macbeth states “Ha! They pluck
out mine eyes”. This means that Macbeth is going a bit crazy because he see’s blood
on his hands and think that they are plucking his eyes out which means that he
is surprised. At this time Macbeth is turning more insane then he was before
because all he thinks about now is king Duncan.
In act 3 scene 1, Macbeth is feeling better after the death of Duncan
but he has sent people out to kill Banquo now. Macbeth, Lady Macbeth and the
Thanes will now meet to have dinner with each other. Macbeth states in act 3
scene 1 lines 63-64 “thence to be wrenched with an unlineal hand. No son of
mine succeeding” By this quote Macbeth means that Banquo will die and no son of
his will be king. Macbeth is trying to keep the crown and is willing to kill
ant one that steps I front of his way.He does not care who it is because Macbeth will kill who ever it is.
Now, Macbeth is turning to be a blood thirst killer.
In the end of act 3 scene 1, Macbeth is talking to his servants that
kills for Macbeth, Macbeth at this point is forcing murderers to find and kill
Banquo as soon as possible before he gets in Macbeth way of becoming king.According to act 3 scene 1 lines
140-143 Macbeth states “ I’ll call upon you straight. Abide within. It is
concluded. Banquo, they soul’s fight, If it finds heaven, must find it out
tonight”. That was what he told the murderers. This quote means that Macbeth
does not know if banquo will be going to heaven or hell, but either way, Banquo
is going to be killed without a care in the world. He also said that if he were
to find out where banquo will be when he is dead, it would be by tonight. At
this point of the story, Macbeth has hit his bloodthirsty and mean self. Now
all he wants to do is kill, just to keep everyone and everything away from his
secret of the death of King Duncan.
In act 5 scene 3, Macbeth’s servant keeps coming to Macbeth to tell him
that soldiers are on their way to come and kill Macbeth instead. I guess
someone found out about the death of Duncan was by Macbeth. Macbeth understands
that, but him and his negative attitude do not care. But anyway Macbeth gets
ready just in case something goes down. In act 5 scene 3 lines 15-20 Macbeth
say’s “Go prick they face and over – red they fear, Thou lily livered boy. What
soldiers, whey face?” This means that he is telling the servants not the be
afraid because no soldiers are going to come to me and try to kill me because
they are all scared of Macbeth. At this point it is near the end of the book
and Macbeth does not know the amount of trouble he is in. When the soldiers
come Macbeth will be forced to fight for his life knowing that he might lose,
he will battle until his death. Now Macbeth has turned to a crazy person and is
going to war by himself against a whole group of soldiers.
Macbeth started of as a hero, a person that people wanted to be. He was
a strong and brave warrior that always followed the kings commands. But as he
moves on with his life he starts to change. He didn’nt know what was right or
wrong because lady Macbeth making his choices. If it wasn’t for Lady Macbeth
King Duncan would of still been alive. But after King Duncan died, all Macbeth
wanted to do was kill everyone that gets in his way. At the end of the story
Macbeth finally finds out that he can’t do nothing no more. So he fought for
his death. He wanted to die showing that he is a brave warrior so he fought
until he died. This proves my thesis because in my thesis I said Macbeth
changes from a good guy to a bad guy. The message Shakespeare is trying to tell
is, is to think about what you are about to do and make sure to never let
anyone force you to do something you don’t want to do. No one can control you,
only you can.
Where to even begin…I hope you have learned a lot and
actually took the time to do more research on the topic of Israel. I really
take for granted all the stuff I know about Gilad Shalit and different
situations happening in Israel. I have finally got videos from Youtube of Gilad
Shalit. (Posted at the end of the this blog) I really just wanted to end this
blog by saying that I really hope that you don’t just believe what you hear.
Most news stations, like CNN say its all Israel’s fault and make up other
stuff, but it is always good to do research and really see from both sides and
form your own opinion.
I would love to share with you
important dates to remember and commemorate.
Michael Levin died August 1st
2006. Every August 1st please take the time to remember who he was,
even ONE minute of silence.
June 25th 2006, the
day Gilad Shalit was captured. June 25th is coming up soon and I
would like for you to get the word out about it. Just like I mentioned about
Michael Levin, just take part of your day to commemorate him and I am only
asking for ONE minute of silence.
Thank you so much for reading these blogs and I would
appreciate it if you watched this video I attached below!
