Interview Questions

At my voting place I interview a young black male who explained to me that it was his first time voting.

Q: What motivated you to come out and vote?

A: This would be my first time being able to vote so I had to take this opportunity.

Q: Do you vote in every election? (How regularly do you vote?)

A: This is my first time voting so I'm pretty excited, but I plan on voting every chance I get. I like politics.

Q: Where have you encountered the highest amount of ad campaigning? Radio, TV, Print, other.
I would definitely have to say print, I am not really a casual tv person I usually DVR all my shows and skip through the commercial but mail about a candidate comes to my house everyday,

Q: What was the most memorable campaign ad that you have encountered?
Uhm, a postcard type stock thingy with Obama and the first lady on it. The headliner said President Obama wants you to vote.

Q: Are you always sure of who you are going to vote for when you walk into the booth or are you still deliberating?
A: Usualy I just remember the democrat that is on the same ideas as Obama

How To Greet Someone In Spanish

I am going to show the basic way of greeting anyone, whether it is an adult or an amigo.

Hola is the common way to say hello or hi in Spanish. Not only can you say hola, you can also say buenos dias, buenas tardes or even buenas noches. You may also want to start a conversation asking how you are doing which is como estas. if you are talking to and adult or an important person you will say como esta instead.

Hola- Hello

Buenos Dias- Good Morning

Buenas Tardes- Good Afternoon

Bueas Noches- Good Evening

Como Esta- How are you?

Como Estas- How are you? (formal)

Que Tal- How are you?

These basic greetings are bound to make any greeting into a bigger conversation ;)

How to ask and say the months and dates? Bach Tong and Shannon Powers

Explanation 1: To ask in a casual conversation "what date is today?", you ask: "¿Cuål es la fecha de hoy?" To answer that same question  you would say: Hoy es el # de....(date).

To say date, you say [the date's number]  [de]  [the month] (refer back to numeros lesson here for help). For example: uno de enero (January 1st), diez de octubre (october 10th)....

Months
enero-----------------------------January
febrero--------------------------February
marzo-------------------------------March
abril------------------------------------April
mayo-----------------------------------May
junio-----------------------------------June
julio-------------------------------------July
agosto-----------------------------August
septiembre------------------September
octubre---------------------------October
nuviembre--------------------November
diciembre---------------------December

You can also ask "What's tomorrow date?" by saying "¿Cual es la fecha de mañana?". Respond would be: Mañana es......(date).

Note: En Español, we don't capitalize the months as we do en Inglés.
Explanation 2: This would be helpful in any environment. We always need to know what date it is for any business or occasion. You can use this in conversation along with other topics that we did in previous lessons. Hopefully you will be able to have a basic conversation en Español using these lessons. ¡Buenas Suerte! (means good luck!)

Saludos ( Greetings)

Below are a few lists of Greetings in Spanish translated to English. The Spanish word is on the left and the English translation is on the right.

(1). ¡Hola!.................................................Hello!

(2). ¡Buenos dias!.....................................Good morning!

(3). ¡Buenas dias!.....................................Good afternoon!

(4). ¡Buenas noches!................................Good evening/night!

* Notice that when you say "good morning" & "good evening" in Spanish you say "buenAS" instead of "buenOS".The differrence between the three is that there is one masculine and two feminine. In Spanish the things that are masculine end with an o and the things that a feminine end with an o. BuenOS is masculine and buenAS is feminine.

* In English when using exclamation marks you use them at the end of an sentence. In Spanish you use an exclamation mark in the beginning and in the end. The exclamation mark in the beginning is upside-down. An upside down exclamation mark looks like this: "¡ ". The reason for this upside down exclamation mark is that when you are reading in the Spanish language you automatically know from the beginning that this phrease/sentence is going to be said with emotion.

(5).¿Que tal?.........................................How are you?

(6). ¿Cómo val?....................................How are you?

(7). ¿Cómo estás tú?( Informal)...........How are you?

(8) ¿Cómo está usted? ( formal).............How are you?

(9) Muy bien gracias.............................Very well, thanks.

(10) Más o menos..................................Alright.

(11) Muy mal/ Terrible.......................... Awful/ Terrible

(12) ¿Y Tú ( informal).......................... And you?

(13) ¿Y Usted ( formal)..........................And you?

(14) ¡Ay,ay,ay!........................................Oh, no!

(15) ¡Que bien!.......................................Oh, good!

* In English when using question marks you use them at the end of the sentence. In Spanish you would use question marks in the beginning and ends of the sentences. Like the exclamation mark the question mark also has to be upside down in the beginning. an upside down question mark looks like this: "¿". The reason for this upside down is that when you begin to read a sentence in spanish you can automatically tell from the very beginning that a question is being asked.

Title: How to ask and say the days of the week? Bach Tong and Shannon Powers

Explanation 1: When you want to ask someone what day of the week it is you say:¿Qué dia es hoy?. If you are asked by a person who speaks español, you would answer: Hoy es....
lunes-Monday
martes-Tuesday
miércoles-Wednesday
jueves-Thursday
viernes-Friday
såbado-Saturday
domingo-Sunday
This could also apply when asking:
¿Qué dia es mañana? (What day is tomorrow?). In this situation, you would answer: Mañana es....
You can even ask what day is a certain date is: ¿Qué dia es la.....(date)? For instance: What day is November 2nd? In that situation, you would say: ¿Qué dia es la dos de noviembre? Answer should be as La dos de noviembre es martes. (November 2nd is Tuesday.)

Explanation 2: Using this will help you to better communicate with others in the español community. You can use this to chat with people, asking for day... It is always helpful to be conscious of what day of the week it is. Note: En Español, there is no capitalization require for day of the week as we do en Inglés. For words that start with "h", the "h" should be silent. We don't actually pronounce "h" en Español. For example, "hoy" should be pronounce as /oy/. Also words that begin with "j" actually pronounce as "h". For example "jueves" should be pronounce as /hu-e-ves/.

How to get Someones Number in Spanish

In order to get someones number in Spanish you need to know:

*The Numbers in Spanish

*How to ask "What's you number?"

* How to break up and separate the Numbers.

To ask someone for there number in Spanish you say: Cual es tu numero de telefono? This mean "What is your phone Number?"

The second most important thing that you need to know is how to break up the numbers when getting someone's number.

Example: (215)-872-3452

In Spanish you would break the numbers up like this: (2 / 15)-8 / 72- 34 / 52

so you would say:  Dos(2) /Quince(15)- Ocho (8) / Setenta y dos(72)- Treinta y cuatro(34)- Cincuenta y dos(52)

Try a couple on your own:

215-333-6790

267-897-0234

Don't forget to break up the number.

Learning Months

Understanding months isn't very complicated. In here i will first explain what months are .
Obviously the English months began with January end with December. I'm going to write the month out and English. Then translate to Spanish.
January-Enero
February-Febrero
March-Marzo
April-Abril
May-Maya
June-Junio
July-Julio
August-Augusto
September-Septembre
October-Octubre
November-Noviembre
December-Decimbre
Ex. fecha de hoy es trienta de octubre dos mill diez . - Today is october 30th, 2010.

Telling time

The way I would teach time in Spanish is to show my students an example of the clock in English and show them the same clock only in Spanish then I would make them solve the rest of the problem with the information of Spanish numbers that they know. I also would use hints of what stay the same and what changes.

Example

1:00= es la una
1:10pm= Es la una de la tarde
1:10am= Es la una y diez de la mañana
2-12= son las dos-doce

see I leave a hint to leave the"es la"(only use this for one) by bolding it and I also bold "de la""son las"(use for 2-12) and "y ___ de la". I would also put pictures and explain more that once.

Election Day

For this election day, I was swarmed with baby sitting duties. Watching my younger brother and my twin nieces. But I didn't let it slow me down, instead I had them help me blow up all the balloons and handed them out with flyers along the way to the voting polls. Unfortunately, there was barely anyone out while we walked to the polls but we didn't let that get to us. So we shouted out to passing cars telling them to go vote and we actually got a couple honks and waves back at us. Once we got to the polls though it was back to business. I had the twins and my younger brother interview about six people asking random questions from the sheet. We luckily got to interview the Chief Elector, a voter, and some of the registration people. They even showed us how the voting boxes worked. After the interview were done, we thanked everyone who participated and went back home where we started shouting back at cars telling them to go vote. My younger brother and the twins did a great job interviewing and were a big help for me that day. I really appreciated it.

Jennifer Wright Marking Period 1

I created a sculpture that was inspired by using sustainable materials. I took an idea that was close to me and put the idea in effect using things that were recycled. By using materials that were already created put this type of art into perspective.

For me, I make decisions about my work by planning. I am a natural planner, often over-thinking, so most of my ideas were hashed out before I started creating the sculpture. I selected materials that were relevant to the project. Recycled bottle caps, cardboard and paper were the focal point. In another way, I chose things that are not normally used in art outside of arts-and-crafts projects. Though I knew what I was building, the type of materials were selected and used as I began making it.

The idea was started when I wanted to share something about my life. I chose something relatively new to my life. I found out I had a thyroid disorder at the beginning of ninth grade. It's something of a side story in my life. It's not a focal point and that's why I chose to focus on it. My work was about my personal experience with thyroid disease as well as general information about it and how it can affect a person.

Los Meses del Año (Months)

Now I will teach you how to prounce and spell the Months of the year. This is good  skill to know because it can be used to say imporntant dates along with the skill to say the days of the week as you were previously taught.

  • The way that you prounce and spell each month is by these translations.
  • enero=January
  • febero=Febuary
  • marzo=March
  • abril=April
  • junio=June
  • juilio=July
  • agosto=August
  • septiembre=September
  • octubre=October
  • novimbre=November
  • dicembre= December

  • A way to us this in life is to sing the months song.

(El Tiempo) Weather

Now i will teach you how to describe the weather. This is a good task to use for  a good life tool and also could be used in the workplace if you are a  weather forcastor.
  • The way that you ask someone "How's the weather?" is to say ¿Qué tiempo hace? Which literally means "what's the weather like?".
  • Now that you know how to ask about the weather now you need to describe weather. To describe weather you say "Hace" followed by any these descriptions.

Drue and Tamatha-Greetings/Saludos

Greetings/ Saludos

1. When seeing a new person and want to say hi.

2.  Español                                    English

    ¡Hola!                                                 Hi!

    ¡Buenos días!                            Good morning!

    ¿Qué tal?                                     How are you?

    Bein gracias!                                       Good, thank you!

   ¿Y tu?                                                 And you?

Chao                                            Bye!

¡Buenas Tardes!                      Good, evening!

¡Buenas noches!                      Good, night or Good afternoon

Notice there are two explanation points, because then the person saying it can tell if it’s a statement or a question. Also, BuenOs and BuneAs , one has an O , and the others have A. That’s because the O is masculine and one is feminine.

How to Ask someone for the time?

First we will teach you how to ask for or tell the time. This is important to real life cause if you do not have a clock or watch at your disposal you will need to ask someone for the time and this tutorial will show you how to.

  • Their are three ways to ask. (What time is it?) You can ask by saying "Qué hora es?", "Qué hora son?", or Qué hora tiene. Any of these will be find to use anytime you ask for the time.
  • Now that you know how to ask for the time i will now tell you how to tell time.If someone says" Qué hora es? "You can by saying Es la una if ita one o'clock or Son las... for any other number between dose and doce. Also to say  the number of minutes you must use y unless it between 45 and 59 mintues you must use menos. For example to say 1:15 you say "Es la una y cuartro" or you could say "Es la una y quince". But to say 5:45 you say "Son las cinco menos cuatro" or "Son las cinco menos quince."
  • A way you could this in really life is by  asking someone in your school hallway for the time.

Talking to Adults vs. Children

Tú is for non- adults
Usted is for Adults
This is usefull for parents and children it shows class. When you are speaking to an adult and say (y usted ) that is formal, but when you are speaking to your friend you say (y tú) each is saying (and you) but one is formal and ones informal.

Singing the Alphabet

A: ah, B: beh, C: seh, CH: cheh, D: deh, E: eh, F: efeh, G: heh, H: ah-cheh, I: eee, J: ho-ta, K: ka, L: eleh, LL: elleh, M: emeh, N: eneh, Ñ: eneyeh, O: oh, P: peh, Q: cooooo, R: ereh, S: eseh, T: teh, U: ooo, V: veh, W: dobleh veh, X: Eh-quis, Y: eee gree-eh-gah, Z: zetah

Make every letter a short letter not in size but in sound. Every y is an high e. Every ll is a y. All J's are h's. Instead of saying Q its coooo. Its not W is Dobleh veh Like a double v. X is Eh- quis its like spelling x with a uis on the end. Z is Zetah remember the z its the only one that starts with z.

Los Días de la Semana ( Days of the Week)

Today I would teach you how to say the days of the week and how to ask and tell someone the day.The reason  you should learn this is because knowing the days of the week for purpose such as scheduling meetings or events or just to have common knowledge of the day you are living.

  • Before i can teach you how to ask or tell someone the date you must first learn how to pronounce each day.For example Monday=lunes, Tuesday=martes, Wednesday= miercoles,Thursday=jueves, Friday=Viernes, Saturday=sábado, and Sunday=domingo. Also you must never capitalize the days of the week.
  • The way that you ask" What day it is?" or the literal translation of  "What day is today?" is by say "¿Qué dis es hoy?". But the way you would respond is by say "Es"then the day.For example if its Tuesday you would response " Es martes"
  • A way you could use this skill in life is singing the Days of the Week Song.

Drue and Tamatha- T vs Ud. Questions

               * Tú vs. Ud. Questions

      Explanation to teach topic:

1.     Greeting your friends and their parents.

2.     Explanation to teach topic:

There are two type of ways to greet someone-informal and formal.

When you use informal you would use tú and when you use formal you would use usted (ud.).

When you are talking to your amigos you would use tú and when your  talking to your amigo’s parents, you would use ud.

You would use ud. when talking to an adult to show a sign of respect.

                Example:

                Tú:

                ¿Como estás (tú)?.....How are you?

¿Como te llamas (tú)?....What’s your name?

¿De dónde eres (tú)?....Where do you from?
