Key Resources/Bibliography:
Comunity. "Guitar Lessons @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com." Guitar Lessons @
Ultimate-Guitar.Com.
Ultimate-Guitar,Web.
The Ultimate-Guitar
community is a vast one filled with hundreds of guitar players of various skill
levels. These guitarists speak
together on a forum and share their tabs with one another for the benefit of
the world. Ultimate Guitar also has a lessons section where anybody can upload
a lesson on whatever they please. I’ve used this to my benefit by taking pieces
of different lessons and incorporating them into my own booklet.
Guitar Tab Creator. Computer
software. Welcome to Guitar
Tab Creator Help Section. Guitartabcreator,
Web.
A big part of teaching guitar is giving a way to read music.
Tablature is debatably the easiest way to teach guitar without going too in
depth about music theory. Making these tabs can be extremely tedious, but
thanks to guitar tab creator the pain of making a tab has been reduced by a
great amount. I used this a lot so far in making lessons and plan on using this
for the rest of it since it’s such a great tool.
Abe’s Book.
Musselman, Abe. A Brief Introduction to Guitar. 1st ed. Vol. 1: Self, Print.
Abe Musselman’s book
on teaching guitar was very similar to what I did for mine. I was able to go
through his capstone and get a decent understanding of what I can do to make it
better. Abe also had a ton of good examples and sources to use. I got the
guitar tab creator from this capstone, as well as several terrific song
examples that I could implement in my project. It’s also nice to have a source
that isn’t a website, especially since I can speak to this person personally.
Hess, Tom. "How To Teach Beginner
Guitar." How To Teach
Beginner Guitar. Tom Hess Music Corporation,
Web.
I need to know HOW to
teach guitar to people before I can actually go about doing it in a lengthy
way. Tom Hess has managed to put some good lessons and tips into this website
which allows me to take a step in the right direction with writing my
book. This website also talks
about common mistakes, which is very helpful for me!
Savage, Nate. "Intermediate Guitar
Lessons." » Guitar Lessons -. Guitarlessons, Web.
This is a good website for choosing different parts of my
intermediate section. It has such a large amount of things in it that I can use
it’s amazing. It’s kind of like a tutorial on my own capstone in itself.
Cross, Dan. "Learning Guitar - Lesson One -
Learning About the Parts of a Guitar."Learning
Guitar - Lesson One - Learning About the Parts of a Guitar. About.com, Web.
I figured that it’d
be very smart if I taught the people who are reading the book the different
parts of the instrument, which they are playing. I also wanted to use the image
on the site to show how the guitar is laid out.
Farris, Brandon.
"Intermediate Guitar Songs." Intermediate
Guitar Songs. FULL-SCORE-GUITAR-LESSONS, Web.
Having songs in my
capstone is very important. They provide a terrific reference of real world
application with what you’ve been learning. This website is terrific since it
gives me dozens of songs at different skill levels! I can use some of these
songs in my capstone, and I can also use them to think of other songs.
Wimer, Kevin. "Choosing a Guitar: Acoustic
vs Electric." JamPlay.com. JamPlay, 24 Feb. 2007. Web.
An extremely
important part of my capstone is separating the different guitars. These being
acoustic and electric. Based on what you want to know about guitar you can read
the different parts of my book to learn about which type of guitar you want to
play.
Crow, Klaus. "16 Legendary Fingerpicking
Patterns." Guitarhabits.com. WordPress, 16 Nov. 2010. Web.
In terms of acoustic
guitar, finger picking is extremely important. A lot of professional acoustic
guitarists are very dependant on it. It manages to keep a very fast sound,
while at the same time sounding very nice and melodic. I figured that this
would be an extremely important thing to put in to the acoustic portion of my
capstone since it’s practically required making any progress in playing.
http://blog.learntoplaymusic.com/choosing-a-guitar-playing-style/
G, Peter. "Choosing a Guitar Playing
Style." Learn to Play Music. Learn to Play Music, 2014. Web.
As with my last
source, this site allows to teach several different aspects of playing guitar
playing such as finger picking.
This one also teaches rhythm and lead guitar though! These also can be relevant for teaching
acoustic guitar, but it’s also extremely helpful for electric guitar, which you
can find a lead/rhythm trade in almost any two-guitar band!

Topic Summary:
My goal for this project was to be able to develop a course curriculum for Advance Chem. I also want to be able to understand the effect that a teacher puts into his or her curriculum. I decided to do Advance Chem. because I really love Chemistry. It’s one of my top courses that I would love to major in once I’m in college. I thought that this would give me insight into what a class structure would look like and what are the big points that a student needs to get out of the course. I didn’t know how hard this would have been because as a student we don’t really think of all the work that goes into making a successful curriculum that every student can understand. I didn’t think it would be easy but I also never thought it would be this hard.
Project Abstract:
The initial inspiration behind this project was that I really wanted to be able to say I did something that no one else has ever done. I wanted to be different one of a kind and that is what I got. I have always loved science and that was my second inspiration. I just never thought that this could be the hardest thing I could do. I had a hard time keeping up with my capstone, a healthy social life and good grades. Sometimes I would over work myself or stay up until late just to write up two or three labs; but all in all I think that this is great I was able to get things done. I also learned that a teacher life isn’t as easy as people may think.
Capstone Bibliography
Hall, James ed. Experimental Chemistry Seventh Edition. Boston Massachusetts: Hartford, 2007. Print.
This is a very good source, I really like this source because it has a lot of information and this information is really useful to my capstone. I the reason is very simple, in the book there are different types of work that can be done in class and that is very important to know. Like the “Idea Gas Law” this is one of the topics that I will be going over because for a Advance Chemistry class this something that everyone should know or should learn when taking this class. This source has short description about the topics that are written inside and then it gives you work that you can do and things that you can explain to the students. Also if I could understand what is happening in the book then the student might understand, too.
http://www.esciencelabs.com/files/product_pdfs/Chemistry_Version_4_Ideal_Gas_Law_Sample_Lab.pdf
I selected this source because it has background information that can support one of the many topics that I will be going over in my Capstone. This also has definitions that we can go over in my class curriculum. I feel like this will work out for me because I learned a lot and I think that this will be really cool and the information is very interesting. I hope that by using this source I will be able to put it together so that I can help the student get the general gizzest of what is happening in the class.
Janet L. Kolodner, Joseph S. Krajcik, Daniel C. Edelson, Brian J. Reiser, Mary L. Starr, eds. Project-Based Inquiry Science Living Together. New York: Jones, 2009. Print.
This is one of the sources that can be help with understanding and teaching. I think that it will be useful to my capstone because this has a lot of facts and information that a teacher should know and that they can teach the student. I think that this is something every important because it was able to teach me new things and if I’m learning something new then that means that maybe the others don’t know it too. This is just to reinforce what I know and what I can teach others for my capstone.
Myers R. Thomas, Tocci Salvatore, Oldham B. Keith, eds. Chemistry Teacher Edition. New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 2004. Print.
This resources is a book about advanced chemistry. It’s a manual that helps teachers teach students the principles of advanced chemistry. The book tells of different teaching techniques and the best way to execute them to students. This can be helpful due to the fact that I want students to learn something new. I think that this will help me see what a student know and what they don’t know. Since I’m a student I can tell because if I don’t know it then the other students might not know it.
"Next Generation Science Standards." Next Generation Science Standards. Next Generation Science Standards and the Associated Logo Are Registered Trademarks of Achieve, Inc., n.d. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <http://www.nextgenscience.org/>.
This source is used to understand what a student at grade k-12 should learn in science class. I will be looking at the grade 6-12 because this is when chem comes into play. I think that this will be used a lot in my capstone because this can help me structur out a class that can work out. It shows the necessary basics to start of a class and also what they should know and learn. There is a lot of information you can get out of this website. You click on one of the topics and it shows you “Science and Engineering Practices”, “Disciplinary Core Ideas” and “Crosscutting Concepts”. Once you clicked one of the topics it takes you to another website that give you useful information.
"Small-Scale Acid Rain Lab." YouTube. YouTube, 18 Dec. 2012. Web. 31 Jan. 2014. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q6k822lSm4>.
This is a very useful youtube video. The reason for that is because it talks about a lab that I plan to have in my capstone, and it also has a teacher explaining how he would set up the project in his class. I think that this can be very useful because of that fact. This is a great way that I can compare with. Thus why I have it as a source. This also shows you about what you'll need for the lab. Like every chemical and what we are going to do with it. He also explains what had happen when the acid rain was around minerals and organisms .
"Support Materials." CEA Rewarding Learning. N.p., 2014. Web. 31 Jan. 2014. <http://www.rewardinglearning.org.uk/microsites/chemistry/revised_gce/support/>.
I found this source useful because it this one pdf source that I can used. It’s called Clarification of Terms in CCEA GCE Chemistry this can be very useful because it’s good to know terms; and I was planning to go over some terms that are explained in this pdf. I can also hand it to the students so that they have something that isn’t just google to find a definition for science words that they don’t know or do not remember.
Thompson, Robert Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry Experiments All Lab, No Lecture.: Alison Kendall ed. Sebastopol CA: Dale, 2008. Print.
When I reviewed this source I thought that it was reliable and a good source to look at. I was able to find a variety of labs that could work well for my capstone. I thought that it was very informative and had great process guids to do the lab. Though I might need to change some chemicals that they asked to use because we might not have them in school so we have to think of something that is close to being the same chemical. In all this is a very useful source that I plan to be using throughout my capstone.
"Understanding by Design Exchange by ASCD." Understanding by Design Exchange by ASCD. ASCD 69th Annual Conference & Exhibit Show, n.d. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <http://www.ubdexchange.org/>.
I selected this source because of the information that it had provided. It helped me know what is needed to make a class. Like the basic understanding of the class what a student should know and what the plan is to make them better. I feel like this could help a lot because it helped me see that the teachers need a ending goal and also how to treat other students because some are slower than the others and sometime a student won’t ask for help so I would need to know when that is happening and also I have to be aware of the students reaction to the work. To make sure that they could learn and understand.
Wiggins, Grant. "Authentic Education - Welcome to Authentic Education." Authentic Education - Welcome to Authentic Education. Authentic Education, n.d. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <http://www.authenticeducation.org/ae_bigideas/>.
This source will just be used to support the other sources that I have because this will only have information on how to make a class; and what is need to make this class.

Our Vision:
As kids, we both had some type of interest in computers and
how these magical machines worked. The very machines that lets us surf the web
and play our games or watch funny cat videos. As time passed and as we grew up
and got jobs, we both decided to make computers. Not from scratch mind you, but
make it in the sense that we bought the parts that we wanted and put it
together. While it might sound costly, the machines that we built are much
better than your average pre-made consumer computers. They are also
surprisingly cheaper. One day we had a vision. Why not share with the world our
experiences and our knowledge on computer parts? So that’s what we did, and we
made a capstone out of it. Our vision is to have a cleverly named website that
will teach your everyday average Joe how to build a computer. We envisioned it
to have advice, steps and things of that nature. A tutorial website basically. We
wanted our potential viewers to appreciate what computers bring to the table,
while providing a guide on how to save money while building a powerful rig. So
that’s what we did. We didn’t stop there though. We included a brief history on
the computer and it’s almost magical advances into modern day technology.

Scott, Brent Capstone
I’ve always enjoyed playing card games ever since I was young and I feel like many people don’t play cards like they used to. Since I’m not very social and talkative, I find when playing cards it allows me to be more social. I find it easier to talk with people when playing cards and I feel this is with other people in SLA as well. I feel were always head first into our computer screens and not truly worrying about the things around us. Yes we do talk to one another but we always have our phones or laptops in front of our faces while doing so. I feel with cards its a face to face interaction with no distractions.
"A brief history on playing cards." White Knuckle . MSN. Web. 31 Jan 2014. <http://whiteknucklecards.com/history/originofcards.html>.
This site provides good information on where cards originated. It doesn’t give a specific date because its impossible to know something of that, but they do give a decent theory of how it happened.
Coerver, Stewart. "The Rules to all Your Favorite Card Games." Grandparents.com. Grandparents.com. Web. 31 Jan 2014. <http://www.grandparents.com/grandkids/activities-games-and-crafts/card-games>.
This site provides multiple games that I haven’t even heard of that I can teach to the members of card club. This allows not only for my members to learn but for me to learn new games myself that I can teach my family.
Harke, Brian. "Is Social Media Making Us Anti- Social."The Blog. Huff Post, 14 06 2011. Web. 31 Jan 2014. <http://www.huffingtonpost.com/brian-harke/is-social-media-making-us_1_b_875455.html>.
I feel this in a sense gives a glimpse of what goes on our everyday lives. Majority of people have cell phones, computers or one of those devices. When on this device constantly, personal conversations go in one ear and out the other. Like harke said in the article “The student was not present during the conversation”. When having a conversation it should be clear eye contact and full attention but with the technology that we have that doesn’t happen as often but I feel like this would change with card club.
"How To Play Hearts." Bicycle. Bicycle. Web. 31 Jan 2014. <http://www.bicyclecards.com/card-games/rule/hearts>.
This is another game at which i’m adamant on teaching ( and also learning myself) with card club I do not just want to expand my members knowledge on different card games but also mine since I’m still unaware about the many card playing games there are.

This is a game that i’m really adamant about teaching to members. I enjoy playing phase 10 and I believe this is a game that requires a good amount of strategy and trying to trump your opponents from losing cards.
Pavlicek, Richard. "Learn To Play Bridge." rpbridge. N.p., n.d. Web. 31 Jan 2014. <http://www.rpbridge.net/1a00.htm>.
Doing research on difficult card games I found bridge to be the most common upcoming which means I would like to learn and teach it in card club. I find that if its tricky then its worth playing and enjoying with other people. This site gives a simple rundown on the rules of bridge and how to play it.
"Pinochle." Bicycle. Bicycle, n.d. Web. 31 Jan 2014. <http://www.bicyclecards.com/card-games/rule/pinochle>.
Recently learning this game was a fun moment for me. My grandfather taught me this game and I felt it was a good connection because he learned it when he was in the service and then he began to speak about his history. I feel talks like these will happen during my card club or this is what I’m hoping. It may not be to the extent of lifetime war stories but having conversation about our everyday lives works also.
Putnam, Robert. "Bowling Alone." Bowling Alone. N.p.. Web. 31 Jan 2014. <http://bowlingalone.com/>.
This site talks about how America has changed over the years due to technology always growing. It talks about how since were acquiring new habits we tend to drop the old ones.
Sherry, Turkle. "Connected or Alone?." TED. Ted Talk, n/a Apr 2012. Web. 31 Jan 2014. <http://www.ted.com/talks/sherry_turkle_alone_together.html>.
This ted talk is one of the resources block introduced me to. Watching this ted talk was very informative. Sherry Turkle spoke about having balance in your life with such technology. In our society we become so consumed with the electronics around us that we never speak to one another face to face anymore. She didn’t make it as if technology was a bad thing but just that we cannot allow technology to take over for everything.
