Jessica Hinton Marking Period 4

The art project's for this quarter weren't as bad as the previous ones. I feel that I was a little bit more engaged in these pieces of art. I took my time, and made sure that each one was completed and looked the way I wanted them to. However, I feel that there were a few art pieces that I wish I would have spent more time on.  I enjoyed doing the sculpture, because I took my time to make these flowers look like actual flowers, and I was learning a new skill while doing so. I enjoyed copying a piece of art by an artist, because I think I really impressed myself with how diligent I was with making my drawing look like the original drawing.  I wasn't really fond of doing the bike drawings, because there were many parts of the bike, that should be included in the drawing, but were difficult to draw. If I was to improve on anything this quarter, I would perfect my pieces of art. Sometimes I feel that what I consider "complete", may not exactly be completed.

Printmaking

I choose to use corn/bomb design to represent my element because it is uses in both crops, and bombs. I also added flames because my elements ability to burst into flames when it is exposed to air.
Based on its properties the backgrounds range from a sunny farm land to a fire in the dead of night. I am very happy with my plates, mostly negative appearance. However in the future I want to use a less labor intensive process.

Poemas de la guerra Civil de Espana: BM Q4 Espanol 5

Natalie Sanchez

Reflection

My project is a story book, but it was put in a video format.

I like the whole story i feel as if it was really good, and also explanatory.

I think i should've added some type of music something calming and like i guess childish sounding

Element Print Project 2011

The element that was given to me was Copper. Copper is a red-brown metal, the chemical element of atomic number 29. It's used in cellphones, homes computers, jewelries, coinage, etc. Coppers are also a good conductive of heat and electricity.

This project was the same as "negative space drawing." Negative space is a space around a subject of an mage. This part of the drawing is usually neglected, or filled with scribbles. Negative space involves with concentrating on shading in the background and leaving the object white.

As for this art Printmaking project, I chose to draw a coin with with an atomic number, mass and boiling point of the element of copper and placed it inside and around the coin area. Coinage is made out of copper and I thought it would be fairly easy to use this as my printmaking project. There were many mistakes going on when carving the block. I accidentally carved the block way too deep which makes it seems rusty. The atomic numbers, mass numbers, and boiling point numbers did not really showed up. Only the the symbol (Cu) of the element did. When it comes to carving, I only carved the inside of the numbers, the coin, and leave the negative space as it is on the block.

I would have used other bright colors to bring out the drawing, but since copper has the color silver in it's product, I just wanted the color of the background to go with the element. There have been a lot of mistakes, but if  I could go back to redo it, I would definitely try to be careful with the cravings.

Dylan Cordivari Q4

When it comes to art I enjoy letting my art express my feelings and personal interests. When I am drawing or building or painting I like to show who I am through my work. I try hard to make things look good. I want to show myself that I am good at what I do through my own eyes. If I think I did something well, then it doesn’t matter what someone else thinks.

When I work I usually just try to go with the flow. I try hard to fix my mistakes. When I start my work I have a general picture of what I want to make so I base all of my decisions on the original picture and manipulate it until it comes out in a way that I like. I use whatever materials I have that I feel will work to express that particular picture.  My technique constantly changes each time I draw something or build something or do any kind of art. My themes are always based off of things that I like or enjoy. Like swordplay, medieval based mythology and music that I enjoy. I draw images of the things I like and draw things that inspire me.

To produce the sound of the guitar, the player had to pluck at each string.

The way he changed the note was plucking at different parts of certain strings and holding certain strings down towards the top of the guitar. The guitar is shaped regularly. The strings are straight down from the top of the guitar to the middle. The big part is shaped as like…a circle with its two sides squished in. The creation and change of the sound makes me think of tension and the length of each string having something to do with the pitch. I think that as you tune the guitar, which is pulling the strings tighter or loosening them, you affect the damping. Since it would affect the damping, the sound would either travel slower or faster depending on the tension of the string.

Two

In a guitar, the sound is produced when you pluck the string of course. The thing about it is that when you hold your finger in different places on the string of the guitar, the sounds changes. The reason this is so is because the wavelengths change, giving you a lower sound the longer the wavelength, and a higher sound the shorter the wavelength, the frequency of the wave is also affected by the wavelength. When the wavelength is short, the frequency is high and when the wavelength is long, the frequency is low. In order to change the wavelength you must hold your finger at certain parts of the guitar string, making the string either shorter or longer when you pluck it with your other finger. The sound is loud because of the vibration. In the guitar there is a hole in the middle and a box kind of thing behind it. The vibration bounces off of that back piece of the guitar and out through the hole.

To change the pitch of my instrument, I will do the same. I will hold my fingers down at a specific spot on the string and pluck it. The physical characteristics that are important in this instrument are the length of the string and the tension of the string.

I will be using wood and copper strings. I chose to use these two things because they are also used in guitars, harps, and other string instruments and they all get good sounds. To play it, I will pluck the strings at certain parts. My plan to construct this instrument is to build it just like how a harp looks….or as close as I can get to one.

Sound is produced by my instrument by the wave traveling though the bottle and dispersing before finally interacting with the water. You would change the pitch either by changing the shape of the bottle or the distance between the water and the point it is being stricken from. I will be using water bottles filled with precise amounts of water set to 5 musical keys. It will be played by striking the top of the bottle and making the sound reverberate though out the bottle. My plans for construction it are simply acquire water bottles and fill them with set amount of water. This instrument is rather simple and I have no outstanding questions about it.

Musical Instrument Blog #1.

Similar to my instrument: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvquq1kg-lQ

The water bottle xylophone is played by a person striking bottles filled with different amounts of water there. The bottles are filled to specific amounts so that the waves change distance they have to travel to crash in the water. You change the notes by striking a different bottle. The note is formed when the striking of the object against the bottle shoots into the container and takes a set amount of time to disrupt the water in the bottle producing a different note. This makes me think that sound is changed and produce by sound waves interacting with a medium of different distances and tensions in order to create the unique sound. I think you can conclude that with a longer distance for the wave to travel the deeper the sound will be because the more spread out the wave will be at the point of impact.

Classification: Rare Earth

Something Interesting: This was man made.

When I read about my element radioactivity came to my head so I tried to make my design radioactive.
The steps I took was to make a earth with a satellite that gives off a signal with waves.
I really like my project I think my picture looks cool and the information about this element is interesting.
I would just make a better picture or choose a different element.

"Element Print Project 2011"

1) My element is Rubidium.

2) As seen in the picture below, my element can be used for atomic clocks, use in medical procedures. This element is more of a side element and can be highly reactive to other elements. Rubidium is also used as the purple firework.

3) For my print, the idea of an atomic clock seems liked an easy concept so I stuck with it. It was either an atomic clock or fireworks.

4) For my final print, I basically stuck with my atomic clock idea and made it pretty.

5) I think that my final print is good in my standards, because I am not very good artistically. But I believe that it could be better.

6) If I were to do this project again, I would draw better and maybe do a different design.

Last call on Israel- Blog 3

Where to even begin…I hope you have learned a lot and actually took the time to do more research on the topic of Israel. I really take for granted all the stuff I know about Gilad Shalit and different situations happening in Israel. I have finally got videos from Youtube of Gilad Shalit. (Posted at the end of the this blog) I really just wanted to end this blog by saying that I really hope that you don’t just believe what you hear. Most news stations, like CNN say its all Israel’s fault and make up other stuff, but it is always good to do research and really see from both sides and form your own opinion.

I would love to share with you important dates to remember and commemorate.

Michael Levin died August 1st 2006. Every August 1st please take the time to remember who he was, even ONE minute of silence.

June 25th 2006, the day Gilad Shalit was captured. June 25th is coming up soon and I would like for you to get the word out about it. Just like I mentioned about Michael Levin, just take part of your day to commemorate him and I am only asking for ONE minute of silence.

Thank you so much for reading these blogs and I would appreciate it if you watched this video I attached below!

Amelia Earhart Returns

What i like most about this project is the fact that we get to change history, what was hard though after the initial excitement was getting solid ideas that would be interesting and wholesome. The actions i make amelia earhart do speeds up the historical record because i make it so that she inspires women so that they have a huge leap into politics and the military and getting everything done efficiently. i thought that if women were a larger factor earlier, things would get done faster and people would be. Also because women are more emotional and mostly rule their actions by that, america is a more accepting and loving although with having a swelled military, america is still the most feared nation if they get pissed off. This project could get improved by slowing down and fully elaborating on different points. I also feel that it can be improved if only one other person was making it with me. If I had to do it over again, i would keep my folder in the classroom so i didnt lose it and have to start from scratch again. I would also plan my time better so that i could get it done before the due date just in case something happened.

Reflection:

I liked creating new primary sources about my POD. The most challenging thing would have to be finding information that would result because of my POD. I feel as the historical record is affected by the individuals because they made their decisions, not anyone else. If systemic changes didn’t happen, the historical record wouldn’t be so bad. The decisions in the historical record were influential because once one person made a bad choice another did. It terribly ruined the history. History shouldn’t have to be about people being murdered and wars. I think that the project could be improved if we had a bigger time limit and more class time because it gives everyone a chance to exceed expectations by making more primary sources to our event. If I did this project over, I would look at when it was due because I didn't pay attention to the due date and had to rush to get everything done on time. Overall, I really think this project was a great idea for a benchmark.

Nadam Musical Instrument Blog #1

Here is the link to the video
It is played by hitting the metal plates with the mallet. The notes are different based off the length of the metal plates. It is shaped like a piano. It makes me think I can cut different sizes of metal plates to create the different notes. I can conclude that the waves produced are caused by the vibrations. The vibrations determine the sound.

Blog #2

For the Xylophone, sound is made when the bars or pipes vibrate. When the pipes are hit, the energy is transferred to the pipes which makes them vibrates which then vibrates air particles around it. The pitch of the sound depends on the size of the pipes and also the type of material the pipe is made out of. In order to make a xylophone, I'm going to get copper pipes and use calculations to determine how long they have to be to make the notes that I want them to make. After I cut the pipes to the correct lengths, I will have them sit on a piece of wood, but make sure that the ends aren't fixed, so the pipes can vibrate.

Musical Blog Posts 1 and 2

Blog Post #1

For my physics music assignment I decided to build a wind chime as my instrument. A wind chime is played not by mouth or string but my a hand and a hard object, ie mallet. Sound is only produced when another object hits one of the wind chimes. Typically a person has a mallet or stick and hits the wind chimes that are of different lengths to produce different sounds. Wind chimes are a bunch of pipes made out of metal that are of different lengths. They are generally places on strings and hung from ceilings. The shape of the wind chime makes me think that the length plays a big part in the sounds that are produced. For instance if you have a longer pipe the sound will be deeper and lower. When learning about waves I related it to my instrument. Different wavelengths produce different sounds because of the different frequencies. All of the pipes of the wind chime have different frequencies.

Blog Post #2

I want to design my instrument in a way where it isn't necessarily "easy" but more manageable. I want to make it so it is portable but still large enough to produce a good sound. Since taking a more in depth look into waves, and energy transfer with waves I've learned that, with my instrument, when another objects strikes against it, the energy form it transfers into the pipe and vibrates it. The vibrations cause the sound waves and the sound waves have wave lengths that make the sound. With my wind chimes the pitch of the instrument will change according to the length of the instrument. To build my instrument I will be using copper pipes, string, and wood. I'm using copper because it was the metal my teacher chose but really any metal will do. Once my instrument is built I will play it by taking another piece of metal and hitting it on the pipes.

Quarter 4 Artist Statement

For this quarter, we were assigned to create couples of  different projects, create a sculpture, take 200 photos, modify 4 photos, recreate a famous painting, sketch a bicycle three times in different ways, and draw an outside scene from observation. In my opinion all of the topics above seem really interesting and cool to create. However, along the way I ran into some trouble and I personally felt like it was really challenging for me.
For the first project I created a sculpture of a lamp made out of Popsicle sticks and plastic bottles. So far this was one of the most interesting project that I have made. I really enjoy building art and ex-specially something that I can actually use everyday. Another project that I enjoy working on was taking 200 photos and modify 4 photos of my choice. Since I love photography and always carry my “DSLR” around at all time it was not a problem for me to capture 200 pictures. However, one of the harder task was to select photos and edit them using all different kind of programs on the Macbook, including Photoshop, iPhoto and more. After we are completed with electronics and hand down projects, we moved on into more of drawing and painting unit.
For the second half of the quarter I created different drawing of a bike-cycle including lines, negative space and shading of the bike. The biggest challenge for this assignment was to do the shading because the bike was station close to the window so the reflection of the light changes at all time. Also it was far for a view distance so I’ve made a few errors along the way. Also it was really challenging to draw the bike over all because there were a lot of details to go into with the bike work. I also enough working on the drawing of nature because it’s really beautiful outdoor and there were a lot of objects I could select from.
Over all, I really enjoy all of the assignment that was giving this quarter and proud of the art work I’ve created. Although I may have not been using enough time on some of my art piece.

I did fire because when my element (vanadium) is crushed up it is flammable, not in its normal state though. I didn't do red as my print color because i thought that would be too normal, so i chose colors that popped out and looked different on fire. I chose that font because just like fire, that font is curvy but has a sharp end. I chose this one out of the other pictures because it looked like it would turn out neat, and indeed it did.

I will build, and then later on play the Flute for my group presentation. Our objective is to build an instrument, and then play it for our class. There are obstacles that we need to do such as calculation and such in order to do this. I researched the background of the Flute. To play the flute and produce sound, someone will have to blow through a hole at the end of the Flute and while blowing, there would be holes at the other end of the Flute where the persons fingers will be covering the holes and uncovering the holes based on what notes that they want to play, and to change the notes. The Flute is a basic pipe; it can have either one fixed end or two loose ends. It also has holes that are different lengths from the hole at the opposite end, which is where the person blows into.  When  i think about myself playing the Flute in order to change the sound, i will have to simply practice where at what time my fingers cover and uncover certain notes (the holes at the opposite end of the blow in hole).  Compared to waves,  the size of the flute, and where the holes are, determines the sound outcome. As the notes changes, the notes change as well

Resource :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crfrKqFp0Zg

#2

Energy from the air molecules transfer into the hole that is blown through, and they vibrate within the Flute, and as that happen, having the notes at the other end of the Flute either covered or uncovered, the Flute vibrations actually turns into sound. In order to change the pitch, the notes that are on the Flute are the holes. The hole that is farthest away from where it is to be blown into is the lowest note.  The hole closest to where we have to blow in the holes to produce sound makes the highest pitch. So to change the pitch, simply change the notes. I will just use my fingers in order to play this instrument. I will play my instrument based off of the songs notes.  If a note indicated that have to play note A, then ill have to use one of my fingers to cover up the A note. To build this instrument, I will have to have a PVC pipe for the flute structure itself, duck tape to have a fixed end flute by covering one side of the pipe, and a drill to drill holes where the notes will be.

Watergate Scandal?

Hi, my name is Natasha and for my History/English 4th quarter benchmark, I planned on changing events surrounding the Watergate Scandal, involving the republican party and Richard Nixon and seeing how history would have been different and where we would be in 2011.

View my Prezi Presentation here

Reflection!

There are many things I liked about this project, then there are some things I did not like or that were challenging. I liked the fact that when you actually found a topic, the way you could really change history. It was challenging finding a topic that I was interested in and then trying to make sure that whatever I would change would make sense. It was also challenging to make the primary source documents. I investigated the watergate scandal. I already knew the Richard Nixon resigned however I forgot why. So going back and researching it was cool to really find out what happened, and how things unfolded. I loved the quote I found by Nixon where he said " if the President does it, it is not illegal." It caght me off guard tremendously that after he tried to cover up having people break into the Democratic Committee Offices in order to have some type of advantage in the political race, that he would say that. He was an extremely smart guy who contradicted himself. He was President, so whatever he did affects what happens in America. For important people in the country who have a say in what happens, then each move they take, and each decision the have to make affects everything. Systematic changes impact historical records because they can change the way someone who's reading the source think. This project can definitely be improved by having more time to really get things together. If you did not have a topic by the assigned date, then you really were going to struggle. I think if the project was more detailed as well with what we were suppose to do or if we could see other students project that way we can get an idea of what we are suppose to turn in. I would change the way I approached a topic. Pick a time and really get specific as opposed to just finding an event and thinking of ways to change it.
