“No come primero!”, dijo Jonathan. “Sara invitó tú a su fiesta. Habla a ella.”

Jonathan trató caminar a Sara, pero él no se movió.

“Va a encontrar ella más tarde. ¡Come primero!”, Jonathan pensó a él mismo.

Jonathan miró al comida y agarró un plato. “¡Toma un plato pequeno! No coma mucho ahora.”

Q3 Art Portfolio

This quarter was a little more difficult for me as an artist. I had to do things that I wasn't particularly as interested in so I had a harder time completing them. I think that I had fun trying to complete it. At the end I was proud of myself for what i did finish even though it was a little tricky for me. My favorite piece was the watercolor piece. I was really proud of the outcome of it. I thought it looked really good when it was done. One thing I wish I had taken more time to do was the wire sculpture. I completed it but I was not very happy with the end result. I think if I had different tools to work with I could have created something I was a little more proud of.

Q3 Senior Art (D) Portfolio

This quarter in art we explored different mediums of art such as watercolor, wire sculptures, and a mosaic. Continuing to experiment with different mediums, I am slowly becoming more versed with my art capabilities and breaking out of my art shell. Usually I am used to using a pencil and paper, but with a medium like wire where it can be tough to manipulate, it can become tricky. So while I struggled with new mediums, I was also gaining experience.
My art in particular this quarter, I decided I didn't want to focus too much on the content of my art but focus more on the medium that was being used since there were multiple. I was a little disappointed with the art I created, but I liked exploring new kinds of art

Designing with linear systems

The Foundations of Algebra class were tasked with creating designs by only graphing linear functions (equations & inequalities), solving systems to find key points, and restricting domain & range. Here's what they came up with:

Carol Burnett

Essay:

Carol Burnett was the first woman ever to have a comedy variety show. “The Carol Burnett Show” was on air during the women's lib movement. Even though the message she sent, or jokes she made were not specifically about women's right, the fact that she had a show is strong enough to prove that she was an activist for women's rights. Because of Brunette female comedians that are around today like Tina Fey, Mindy Kaling, Tig Notaro, and so many others are able to do the wonderful things they do with less backlash (although unfortunately still some). Burnett Also helped Vicki Lawrence, a female comedian of her time, because she was one of the other actors on the show.

Having her own show did not come easy however. NBC Told her that she should not have the show, telling her that it was “a man's game”. But that did not stop her, she pushed on and had an amazingly successful show. In her comedy and in her life, Carol Burnett pretty much did what she wanted. That’s how she was such a funny person, and also successful. She would not give in to what other people told her, she was strong and persistent, working till she got what she wanted and what she knew was right.

Burnett was also influential because she set an example for how the world should be. Women can be just as funny as men, and she proved that. In fact, she never had to say it because her actions proved that it was true. Her show was not about women's issues, but it was around at a time when a lot of women's issues were being fought for. Carol Burnett was a living example of what so many women at that time were fighting for, and to make thing better, she was amazingly funny.

Q3 Art Portfolio

During this third quarter in Ms. Hull’s senior art class, everything has been excellent. In this quarter we had to create a water color painting, metamorphosis drawing, coat of arms, mosaic, and a wire sculpture . All of the pieces were given 100% of my time and effort, which can clearly be seen through the work. This quarter has been very tough and intense. However, enjoyed making every single piece.

My favorite piece of art work was definitely the water color painting. I love anything that deals with paint because it gives you the liberty to create anything. I love the technique that I created on the center of the page. I honestly didn’t think it was going to come out so good. The eye on the center came out beautiful! I wanted the eye to reflect different emotions which is why I used different colors. I made the outline of the eye very bold because I wanted to show intensity. Overall I thought this painting was very well executed, and definitely my best yet.

Quarter Three Portfolio

For this portfolio, I used a lot of methods besides just drawing. The only drawings I did were the coat of arms and the metamorphosis drawing. I had never made those types of drawings before. As usual, animals were incorporated in each piece, even the coat of arms, which often feature animals. Many metamorphosis drawings also feature animals evolving from objects. The cats represented cats my family has or has, the snake around the sword is actually the official symbol for the O'Donovan family.

My favorite piece in this is the metamorphosis drawing, because it was fun yet challenging to create. I also got in add a Mandrill , which I love to draw. The paper clip sculptures were hard to make with that type of wire, they also did't look that good in my opinion. They seemed kind of insignificant, so I made two of them. A dolphin and a shark sort of go together. The mosaic ended up looking kind of good, it was really difficult to make. The watercolor wasn't that interesting to create because unlike the other pieces, I have done watercolors before.

Q3 Artist's Statement

Art is a constantly changing thing, especially when it comes to personal styles. Branching out and experimenting with brand new styles, while still incorporating familiar techniques makes for a variety of interesting pieces. Stepping out of your comfort zone and expanding what you already know about art allows one to not only improve as an artist, but ultimately figure out methods you never knew you liked, or were even good at, both in style and technique.

Qtr 3 Art Gallery - Shareef-Trudeau

The first piece that I created for quarter three was an advanced coloring sheet. This is a detailed coloring sheet that I colored in with the use of markers. The image I chose to color was a fox, created by by several plant parts. I tried to keep the colors sort of realistic, coloring leaves green and wheat a golden color.

The second piece that I created was a self-portrait in watercolor. Because I had previously completed a self-portrait in pencil that was as realistic as I could make it, I wanted to try something a little different this time. Watercolor is more of a transparent and fluid paint to work with and so I thought that this medium would work well in conveying light and heat. So when painting my self-portrait I used warm colors and focused more on the thermal aspect of the portrait rather than the realistic colors that you would see on my face.

The third piece that I drew was a vase. The round shape of the vase helped me to emphasize value in this drawing, because of how the light strikes circular objects. Beside the vase is a gradient scale, this was simply a practice at shading in different gradients.

The fourth piece that I created was a drawing of a hand. I made this by starting with basic shapes and using those to construct the general idea of the hand, this is displayed in the picture on the left. After I drew the basic shapes, I refined the drawing by rounding edges and connecting them in a more natural way, this is displayed in the picture on the right.

The fifth and final piece of this quarter that I created was a gazelle. Again I started this piece using basic shapes for the gazelle’s features and later smoothing them out and making the picture a little less rigid and more curved, as we often find things in nature. Still, I left the light outline marking on the picture to show how I got from a place of blocks and circles and triangles, to the finished picture.

Christian Q3 Artwork

My self portrait was not based off my actual appearance, but by the way I feel. I feel like this represents me in an artistic way. More so than looks, I feel like the the person in the picture symbolizes who I am.

I never realized how many things you could make from circles, squares, and rectangles. These basic shapes are the building blocks for the most complex figures known to man. Without shapes you would not be able to create. The pictures shouws how shapes evolve when you connect the dots.

Laughing

Science: When we laugh, multiple parts of our brain are triggered. These regions include- limbic system, amygdala and hippocampus, thalamus, hypothalamus, and frontal lobe. These each have to do with behavior, emotion, social connection, and or sound. The main part is the limbic system. There haven't been any research done to identify what exactly triggers us to laugh, just the regions of the brain. I learned that we laugh when our brain tells us to, not exactly when we want to. The study of laughter is called the "gelotology". Laughing can be an exercise. For every 15 minutes of laughter, you can burn up to 40 calories.

Society: People always say that laughter is the best medicine. There are reasons why, because it improves you physically, socially, and mentally. Physically, when you laugh, your muscles relax. Like stated above, you can burn calories with laughter. It prevents from heart attacks and other cardio issues because it helps your heart pump a lot of blood and it helps your immune system as well by increasing immune cells. It also increases infection-fighting antibodies. Socially, you build relationships over laughter. With all the different languages in the world, laughter is common amongst us all. It is also very contagious, that is proven, so when you are having a good laugh and are in a good mood, that helps improve someone else's mood around you. Mentally, laughter decreases stress hormones, so you feel at ease. It eases your anxiety and fear.

Self: The reason that I chose to do laughter for this project is because I love laughing. It's one of my favorite things to do because it makes me feel really good. I make myself laugh a lot too, I really crack myself up at the things I think of in my head, and or say out loud. I like to make other people laugh too. I just wanted to look into the science behind laughter to see what I could learn. I didn't learn much scientifically about what triggers me to laugh in my brain, I just know the regions affected when I am about to laugh, and while I'm laughing, which was also interesting to find out.

Advanced Essay #4

The picture shows that of a police officer that is standing over a group of protesters and is spraying them with what seems to be tear gas. The students seem to be outraged by this site and they are recording this while they also seem to be screaming at the police officer. The picture to me represents to me the officer the person that is in charge and has the power entering a place where the students who don't have a voice are being put down by the authority because this is a school and the officer is present they must just obey and do as  he asks because the rules of the school do not apply to the outside world.

An officer stands over a group of  students as he sprays them with what to seems to be with some kind of solvent. The officer radiates a look of detachment as if he does not want to be there; as if he does not care. He seems to try to hold back a smirk in the picture in a way of looking down on these students. We see students surrounding the group of kids recording what is happening as officers push back the crowd.

It seems like they are on  a campus of a university where they were protesting then were shut down.  This seem to have been done by an authority higher than theirs. Pushed back against a wall nothing can be done but sit there and take the assault. They knew this would happen and now they have to accept the results .

What are you willing to do to keep your home safe? Would you be willing to take a life or two with just the push of a button? Well in the article “Keeping  America Safe Embrace Drone Warfare”, that dream is a reality. In the article, fighting with drones was something that soldiers did not think was possible. They never dreamt that a soldier could sit in an army camp and pilot the drone  to reach the target. The only problem was what I read in  this was after the pilot had supposedly killed the target.

" The decision maker asks if there are civilians nearby.

“The family is in the main building. The guys we want are in the big guesthouse here.”

“They’re not very far apart.”

“Far enough.”

“Anyone in that little building now?”

“Don’t know. Probably not. We haven’t seen anyone since the Pred got the capture of the target. But A.Q. uses it when they pass through here, and they pass through here a lot.”

He asks the probability of killing the targets if they use a GBU-12, a powerful 500-pound, laser-guided bomb.

“These guys are surely dead,” comes the reply. “We think the family’s O.K.”

“You think they’re O.K.?” "

This is the problem the soldier had taken the life of the target but in this attack, he also might have taken innocent life as well this is because he was not in the field so how could he be sure. To the soldier, he only sees a screen a target you become so emotionally detached that the target is a target it does not matter about the surrounding life only as long as you get the target. That's what soldiers are though they are just civilians in uniform that can not be distinguished from one another just following orders without thought. This is due because the people that are in command don't need them to have thoughts even the slightest idea of compassion or remorse is what changes the tide of battle. We need machines that is all so sitting a soldier in front of a screen telling them to click a button anyone can do that.

What are soldiers really I am not going say they are proud and brave who fight for peace and protection, If I were to say that I would only be feeding you the same lines of B.S. that you hear from recruiters or people that can’t open there eyes to the truth. We are nothing but puppets that can be used for people who have the ability to control us I say we because any of us would press the button to kill a life any of us would put that uniform on and would lose the ability to think for ourselves. This is the simple truth put in the right situation we all have the ability to become nothing but tools for some else gain we all would turn to evil if that's the label you want to use but if that's what we label each other as then we have already taken steps to evil.

Q3 Artwork

My overall goal with my artwork during this quarter was to improve my techniques and make my pieces more realistic. With drawing assignments, I chose to draw animals in both shape assignments since I have never drawn a realistic animal.
Luckily I had an abstract art coloring book which I used for the advanced coloring assignment. I chose to use very similar color palettes on my first two  pages. They both included green, black, purple, and yellow. For the last page I chose to try a very different color scheme by using only white, black, and red.
For my second self portrait, my medium was pencil as opposed to the charcoal that I used in my first self portrait. I made this decision, because I didn't really know how to use the charcoal very well so I decided to switch to something that I am more comfortable with. The next week's value assignment taught me how to use charcoal better and improve my shading skills. I made this change in my medium, because wanted to have more well-defined lines to make it easier for me to sketch from looking at a picture.
The last to weeks of the quarter we learned how to draw objects and animals using basic shapes. For both of these assignments, I chose to draw animals for both assignments to get out of my comfort zone. For the basic shapes assignment, I used ovals, rectangles, and triangles to form a crab. In the animal shapes assignment, I used ovals, rectangles, and triangles to create a drawing of a bear. To go from an arrangement of shapes to my final products for both of these drawings, I had to curve and soften edges, connect the shapes better, and add small details.

Q3 Artist's Statement

When I draw I usually just stick to using pencils, so the advanced coloring was really different than the work that I usually produced but I had fun making it. I really like how the Three Musicians one looks because I tried to stick to all greens and blues and some yellows when I was coloring. I was initially going to try to replicate the true colors of Starry Night but decided to do a completely different color scheme instead. When I colored the mushroom picture I tried to do all unique combinations of colors for each mushroom to see which ones looked the best.
For my self portrait I decided to play with the positioning of my face because I normally would have gone about drawing myself from a head on point of view or a side profile. I also used a little bit of color to fill in parts of the drawing.
For the value and animal shapes assignments I did some shading of the ball and of the squirrel's tail. For the basic shapes drawing I simply just tried to replicate the shapes that made the tea pot as good as possible.
