Tamatha Lancaster Capstone

Abstract

For my capstone, a fellow classmate and I decided to do a dance club for the school. At first we were doing it for SLA Center City and then decided that it would be nice to also extend the club to SLAB. First we decided what songs we was going to dance to and then came up with some dance moves. We were going to have our club as an after school activity every Wednesday at Beeber but at the end, it turned out to be one of their mini-courses for the 4th quarter. So then we came up with a lesson plan on what we was going to do with the students and what we wanted them to get out of it. We decided that we were going to teach them a couple of dances and then as their final project, have them come up with a dance on their own. During the process I’ve learned that patience is really important to have because we had to wait until the students and teachers cooperated with us. And that leadership skills were needed for this club because we were working with ninth graders who think they know everything.

There was a website for my Capstone, so click here to view the website.

Hip Hop Choreography

Jam, Mega. “'23' ft Miley Cyrus choreography by Jasmine Meakin (Mega Jam).” Online video clip. Youtube. Youtube, 1 Dec. 2013. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtU13wWKBUU>

This youtube video is a dance video of one of the people one of us is subscribe to on youtube. She is a dance instructor and she puts all of the rehearsals she does onto her youtube page along with the tutorials of her dances. We selected this video because it will help come up with some dance moves we can do. It helps to figure out what music is best to dance to. Viewing this video will allow us to see how other people dance and what they think are good dance moves.

“Dance Team- Dance Technique.” Varsity. Varsity Brands, n.d. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <http://www.varsity.com/event/1170/dance_technique>

This website gives us information about the techniques of dancing, it gives information about different turns foot alignment and tips in improving your dances. This information will allow us to dance the correct way with the right alignment and body position. Knowing this information before we actually start dancing will save many injuries to us and the people who are dancing with us. We could use this information on our website because if people want to copy any of our dances, they first have to know the techniques we used.

Williams, Brenda. “Where Did Dance Come From.” ezine articles. Sparknet, 2014. Web. 28 Jan 2014. <http://ezinearticles.com/?Where-Did-Dancing-Come-From?&id=1144971>

This article by Brenda Williams is about dance and where it comes from. She goes to say that no one actually knows how it originated but it’s an important part in ceremonies, rituals, and celebrations. While reading this article I learned that dancing was first seen in Egyptian times, in their wall paintings. This article doesn’t help with how we dance but it does help us to know where it come from. Also it will help us with our website because “knowing” where dance come from can be the introduction to our website.

AdrianVanOyen. “50 Epic Dance Moves.” Online video clip. Youtube. Youtube, 25 Nov. 2012. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. < http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dodGzOjBOHA>

We chose this video because it showed us what not to do as a dance. This is kind of important when it comes to dancing because you want to make sure that you don’t look crazy when you want people to take you as a serious dancer. So doing doing some of these dances in public will not accomplish this. This allows us to get away from the “bad” dancing and towards the better dancing.

Jam, Mega. “‘Where Have You Been’ Rihanna  choreography by Jasmine Meakin.” Online video clip. Youtube. Youtube, 7 Aug. 2012. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpuDjCf8HVE>

This video had some intriguing moves that we would like to learn and then put together with our own dance moves. It helps to learn from other people who are more experienced than us because we can learn so much and enhance our own knowledge of dancing.

Jam, Mega. “‘I’m Out’ Ciara ft. Nicki Minaj choreography by Jasmine Meakin.” Online video clip. Youtube. Youtube, 7 Sep. 2013. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00f1-gh1WYg>

This video had some intriguing moves that we would like to learn and then put together with our own dance moves. It helps to learn from other people who are more experienced than us because we can learn so much and enhance our own knowledge of dancing.

Delving Past Hip Hop

GreatAmazingWorld. “Best African Dance Lessons Tutorial Video- Dancing on the Clock.” Online video clip. Youtube. Youtube, 4 Jul. 2013. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIPEVHGjdP4>

This source is especially useful because it delves into more than just hip hop dancing. It is important to look at where dances came from and most hip hop dances have African roots. With that being said we will be looking at the root of dancing so we can fully understand modern dancing. If you know where your stuff comes from it is easier to understand and perform the modern stuff.

fitforafeast. “Salsa Basic Dance Step- learn Latin Dance Lessons for kids.” Online video clip. Youtube. Youtube, 1 Nov. 2009. Web. 28 Jan. 2014. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F758q-jifJI>

Having a knowledge of dances from different cultures only enhances our techniques. It gives it a flare and steps outside the box of just hip hop. It’s important to not only understand the dancing you like to do. You have to know about multiple dances because each dance style is influenced by another so it’s best to know multiple to better understand what you’re doing.

What is really "healthy"?

Spaghetti Recipe

Serves 4-5

Time: about 45-50minutes

a box of Mantia’s Italiano Spaghetti

a jar of Mantia’s Italiano Pasta Sauce, flavored with meat

Mantia’s Italiano Parmesan cheese (optional)

1/2 lb. of ground beef cooked and seasoned to taste (optional)

1 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of italian season

1 teaspoon of parsley flakes

  1. Put a pot of water on the stove and bring it to a boil. Once the water is boiling, pour you salt into the water. Break your spaghetti and then carefully put the spaghetti into the boiling water without letting the water splash.
  2. Make sure the spaghetti don’t stick by stirring it for a few seconds with a fork and let the water come to a boil again. Once boiling, turn the heat down, low to medium, to allow the spaghetti to cook. Occasionally stir the spaghetti and allow the spaghetti to get soft. Taste the a piece of the spaghetti (taste test) to see if the spaghetti is done.
  3. Turn of the burner once the spaghetti is done and strain it with a strainer. Put the spaghetti back in the pot. DON’T put the pot back on the burner it was on.
  4. While the spaghetti is cooking, put the pasta sauce in another pan and let it come to a boil. If you’re using ground beef, this is the time to add it. Cut off the sauce immediately after boiling.
  5. Pour your pasta sauce in with your spaghetti along with the italian season and parsley flakes and mix. Put spaghetti on separate plates

Analysis

Even though the dish isn’t all healthy it surely is good. My meal is 100% processed. In this meal there is about 10 grams of sugar, 4.5 grams fat, 11 grams of protein. By eating this meal, the body will balance the amount of sugar in your body making sure your body stays healthy. And depending on the body, it will turn the sugar in the food into glycogen or glucose. However, eating this meal everyday wouldn’t be a good thing to do because you don’t get the nutrition your body needs and it’s not a healthy meal.

Since the entire dish is process, that means that none of it is organically grown. The tomatoes in the pasta sauce can be assumed to be commercially grown because that’s how most of foods are grown now. Now a days people want to grow huge vegetables, this isn’t healthy for us or the environment because a lot of chemicals go into commercially grown foods. This can kill many animals who might eat it and it’s not healthy for other plants.

This dish as a whole cost about $5 which means it about the same price as something a person will get from a fast food restaurant. I’m not one hundred percent sure on how my meal is regulated but I’m sure that there are some kind of regulations for the food because since the ingredients are processed, that means that we shouldn’t be consuming so much of it. The CEOs of Mantia’s Italiano makes money off my meal because even thought I get the food for my meal at Shoprite or Save a Lot, the company is still making a profit off of it.

Since the ingredients in this dish isn’t made in Philadelphia, people have to actually ship the products around causing pollution to go up because of the amount of gas that has to be used to get the food from one place to another. Also eating a lot of this can cause a person to be a little lazy because if you add ground beef to it, it can be a little greasy. This dish could be a little more healthy if I had made my own pasta sauce with fresh ingredients. Same with the pasta, making homemade pasta would be a better choice than buying it because I would know what’s actually in my food.

Personal Reflection

For this unit, I found out many things that I didn’t know in the past. The biggest problems I think with our food system is that most of our food is made out of one kind of food which is corn. This is a problem because for one our body can’t digest corn and we don’t get enough nutrition from corn. Also if most of our food is made from corn or soybeans it means that most of our food is processed. And the food we eat aren’t organic, the farmers use so many chemicals that it might not be healthy for us. Also the video we looked at about nutrition showed another problem we have in our food system which is the fact that the animals to which we get our food from are getting fed corn. The changes I could make to my food choices is trying to eat more foods that are organic or foods that are made out of organic food. Also not buying as much processed food than before. If I change the way I can for one have a more healthy diet because I would be getting the nutrition. These changes is something I am willing to make but it will also be difficult because getting organic food isn’t easy. The prices are high and you don’t really see a lot of organic food in many supermarkets.

Write2Connect

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in Reading, Writing, and Rising Up - Rami - B on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 9:51 am
If it wasn't for writing, I don't think that many people would know who I really am and why I'm the way I am. When I write, whether it's for an assignment or just for fun, I tell a story within a story. I could write about something real random or crazy, but it still has some kind of connection about me and who I am. If people read the things I write, they could learn a lot about me. Writing helps me to express myself to other people and also to me. My writing helps me to connect to people because I write about the things people know about, something they can relate to. These writings are normally about my life or things I see everyday. My writing can sometimes help entertain people whenever their bored. But other than trying to connecting to people I don't know, my writing connects me to my family and to myself. When I write to my family it is to tell them how thankful I am and how much I care about them, something that will let them know how I really feel about them, things I can't say. Lastly, I write to myself to express my feelings. Whenever I'm upset I write, whenever I'm happy I write. Writing is a part of me and without it I don't think that I would be sane. Writing helps me to connect to other people and that's how they connect to me.

Process Paper

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in English 3 - Pahomov on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 9:05 pm

My group made 3 components to our campaign which was a website, Facebook page, and Youtube video. In this project, I was in charge of the Youtube video. When I first visioned, the video, I wanted it to stick out and to reach out to people’s mind. Producing the video though wasn’t that difficult but wasn’t easy either. Since I knew what my other group members was doing and what they was putting in they’re components, it was easy for me to know how I was going to form my video. But when I was putting my video together, I was kind of working backwards. I put together the ending and the middle pieces before working on the beginning because I knew actually what I wanted to do with the end, so I thought that I would get that out of the way. The only thing that I’ll say that went wrong was my idea that I had for my video.

At first I was having difficulties trying to find an idea on what to do with the video. My original layout for the video was to have pictures that I took with the “Do Not Cross” tape in front of schools. Then I was going to have the students give their views and have slides that says what was happening with the school closings and how the students could save their schools from closing. However, things don’t always go according to plan. It was difficult trying to get students to say what they thought because those who me and my group knew didn’t want to participate and cooperate with us. They said that they didn’t care about the fact that their schools were closing. With this I had to come with another plan, I then decided to just have voice overs with the schools that was going to close. I just took people who were at SLA and asked them if they could just say “Save my school” and recorded that. Another challenge was trying to get my hands on some “do not cross tape”. I wasn’t sure where to get a roll from other than a police officer. Instead I took some pictures that was on google that showed schools with “do not cross” tape. In all I don’t think that the process of designing that bad as I had thought but it could have been way better if I was able to get all my ideas in the video.

After I had made the video and put it on Youtube, I was wondering how was people would know that it exist. I decided that I would post the link of the Youtube video on our Facebook page so that those who liked the page could go and watch it. I also decided to email people saying to check the video out. The challenge though was actually getting people to actually look at the video. So I would sometimes tell those who had kids that looking at the video can benefit both them and their kids. And for teens I would tell them that they wouldn’t lose their schools and wouldn’t have to go find another one.

Working on this video was both interesting and time consuming because one, I got to see how many people actually took their time to look and like my video even though it did take time to complete it. I think that taking the time to actually plan out the video and see what could work and what couldn’t was the most challenging through the whole process. And it would be nice to know if some people actually took the advice.

Annotated Bibliography

Annotation 1:

Collins, Sarah, Karen Davis, Michelle Doty, Jennifer Kriss, and Alyssa Holmgren. "Gaps in Health Insurance: An All American Problem."
Commonwealth Fund. 16. n. page. Print. <http://www.commonwealthfund.org/Publications/Fund-Reports/2006/Apr/Gaps-in-Health-Insurance--An-All-American-Problem.asp&xgt;.

This article helps me because it talks about how people aren’t have health insurance because the cost of it is too much and that different class people are being affected by it, having low-income as those who are the ones with insurance. It include a chart that shows how many people who are insured and uninsured with different incomes. At the end it talks about how many people are having medical debts and bill problems because of the fact that they can’t pay for health care.

Annotation 2:

"Health Care." . N.p.. Web. 15 Feb 2013. <http://www.healthcare-now.org/wp-content/uploads/pdf/finalphilafactsheet2.pdf>.

This pdf  tell me about the amount of people who doesn’t have health care and how much it has went up over a certain amount of time. It also tells that the cost of healthcare is affecting many families and it ends with how the healthcare crisis can end.

Annotation 3:

"Health Care Statistics ." Health Care Problems.org. n. page. Web. 15 Feb. 2013. <http://www.healthcareproblems.org/health-care-statistics.htm>.

This website helps me because it gives facts about from other sources about health insurance and how much it went up. Also about where the money go to and health benefits. It also includes a graph for those who are uninsured. And it tells about how the insured and the uninsured are being affected by the cost of health insurance.

Annotation 4:

Jobbins, Cindy. "Report Finds Philadelphia’s Pension and Health Care Costs for Public Employees Growing at Unsupportable Rates." PEW Charitable Trusts . n. page. Web. 15 Feb. 2013. <http://www.pewtrusts.org/news_room_detail.aspx?id=34146>.

This websites tells me and goes into detail about how the amount of money the city pays for pension obligation and health care benefits are going to increase and how it has changed over time. At the end it gives fact about pensions and health care benefits. Then it goes to say some solutions that could be used.

Annotation 5:

John , Dodds. Telephone Interview. 13 Feb 2012.

This interview helps me because Mr. Dodds said that the reason health care (insurance) cost so much is because the companies in charge of health care make the prices so that they can pay for other things. The cost of health insurance and healthcare will go up every year and that it’s affecting those who have low income or don’t have a job. Kids are more insured than adults because there are a lot of affordable insurances out there for them. And the price of insurance would decrease if the government start paying for insurance for those who don’t have any.

Week 1 Abstract Emotion

I didn’t know what abstract emotion was until the week that we were supposed to do it. I’ve heard of the word abstract before this but I’ve never really knew what it meant. So this week would be my week of learning something knew. I found out that this project wasn’t so bad that I thought it was going to be.

The only hard part that I had with this project was deciding what to do. I wasn’t sure what to do so I looked at some examples. I then decided to do a picture of a face with mixed emotions through and around it. I made the face faded so it wouldn’t look like one. The colors I choose to do were red, purple, yellow, black, and blue. Red represented anger, purple represented pain, I made yellow into a lighting bolt that went with anger, black represented death, and blue represented sad. After that I smudged the colors together so it would blend.

Week 2 Abstract Motion

I wasn’t sure how to do abstract motion because I never did it before. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out but after doing them, I found out it wasn’t that hard. I decided to do multiple pictures so I can get better at it. I did a drawing that was blue and it looks like the colors are moving like water. Another one is with many colors looking like it’s moving fast. Then there’s one that has colors smudged in together. I was proud of my work because I got a lot of work done then I expected and they turned out nice. And if I was to do this again I would make them more creative then the ones I made before.

Week 3 Abstract

I didn’t make a big deal out of this week because it was just abstract and I have did artwork that had to do with abstract in the last two weeks. So this week projects would be easier than the others. Then I decided to do multiple drawings.

There was two big drawing that I did, one with spirals and the other with curve lines. With these I made them with charcoal and with different colors, then faded it out to make it more abstract. Another one was with different colors that went in different directions.

Week 4 Close Up Drawings

With this week I decided drawing four close up pictures. I decided to do this because it makes you get every little detail in an object and it makes a person make more detailed drawings. And with every detail of something, you can make your drawing look realistic.

There was one drawing that I spent almost all of my time on this week and it was a close up drawing of my laptop. With this drawing I got every detail of the computer even the windows that was open on the screen. The rest of my time went to the three birds I drew, which are the blue jay, the sparrow, and the cardinal. I decided to draw these birds because I feel as thought they are cute and I like looking at them fly around and look for food.

Throughout this week, the hardest drawing that I did was the computer because it was difficult trying to get the correct number of keys on the computer and trying the laptop to look the right way. The easiest drawing was the cardinal because it didn’t that much detail as all the other ones did.

Week 5 Close Up Drawings Pt 2

For this week I decided to do some more close-up drawings because I feel as though I can still do better with drawing objects up close. There are also some things that I drew that were landscape and one I did electronically.

I drew three pictures close-up and they are a bird and a mask. The last picture I drew was of a cup of cider with a bottle of sparkling cider and cherries next to it. With this picture I drew a table and two chairs in the background so it wouldn’t look like the cup, bottle, and cherries were floating in mid air. With the bird, I decided to draw it from the previous week when I few a couple of birds before. When I was drawing it, I wanted to draw a bird that I’ve never seen before. I decided to draw the mask because I didn’t know what else to draw and also that’s my favorite mask. There was a picture that I drew with pyramids and I got this idea when I was looking at TV and someone was talking about Egypt. Then I thought it would be cool to draw somewhere in Egypt so I looked up some pyramids and decided to do pyramids. And lastly, I wanted to make a make something that looked like a poster so I took a couple of my aunt prom pictures and made a poster out of them but first I made all the pictures look black and white.

At the beginning of this week I had artist block, which is when you can’t find and don’t know what to draw. But to get over this, I asked a few of my friends to give me ideas that I could do and this is how I got what I did this week.

Week 6 Landscape

I was a little nervous about doing landscape at first but then I just decided to o it anyway because I wanted to get better at it. I wasn’t sure what type of landscape I wanted to do so I decided to get some ideas from Google.

I decided to do two landscape drawings because one of them took a lot of time to do. The first one I drew was one that looked like a grass field with a pond in the middle and mountains in the back. Another drawing was a ocean with a city in the background while water is splashing onto rocks.

I am proud of the way that me and my partner Dejah answered the questions and I'm proud of the final product. One of the main thing that I had trouble with is the pronunciations of the words and I kept stumbling when I was talking. If I could do this project over again, I would change the answers and the way the podcast was.

Self-Small Portrait

When I first found out that we had to draw a self-portrait, I was nervous and shocked because that’s my main weakness and I don’t draw people a lot. I cannot draw people for anything especially myself because it’s something about it that I cannot get. When I did it though, it was hard but it wasn’t as hard that I thought it was going to be.

The way I started it was first, I found an angle that I was going to draw myself, and then, I started with the shape of my head. After that, I drew my eyes, nose, and mouth, and then did my hair. The last thing I did was draw in where my earrings would go and my neck.

The hardest part of this assignment was drawing the eyes, nose, and mouth because the eyes weren’t looking like mine and they weren’t realistic. The nose was okay but it was hard trying to get it the right size and to get it straight. The lips were also hard to get it to the right size and it was difficult getting the lips in the right part. The main difficulty with these features was lining them up right.

Color Wheel

I was excited when I found out that we had to a color wheel as an assignment because I love mixing colors and you could make your color wheel any kind of way. There wasn’t a specific way you had to do it; you were free to be creative with your color wheel. Also making a color wheel was easy to make because all you had to do was make different colors out of the primary colors.

I first choose the way I was going to do my color wheel, which was the basic circle, and then I drew the circle and split the circle into 12 parts. Second, I choose my paint and colored in the parts where the primary colors where suppose to go. After that, I mixed the colors and painted the rest of the parts.

The hardest part of the assignment was dividing the circle into 12 even pieces. No matter how many times that I tried to divide it, it wasn’t coming out straight.

Texture

I was confused when I first out that we had to do texture because I didn’t know what it meant. The only type of texture I knew is how something felt so I didn’t know how to draw texture. After the assignment have been explained I understood it more and thought that it was going to be easy.

When I did the snake first I, drew the outline of the body, then I marked with the head is on the snake and drew the scales and eye on the head. After that, I drew horizontal lines on the body of the snake then drew vertical line on certain areas of the snake that intersect the horizontal lines making the body of the snake look something like bricks. Finally I drew the scales and shaded some part of the bottom of the snake. The way I drew the hair is by first drawing the head and then the hair. Afterwards, I shaded in the dark and light parts of the hair. Finally, when I drew the water, first I drew the swan and then drew curve lines in front of the swan to make look like the water is moving. Next, I drew waves throughout the paper and smudged the pencil in a little to make it more realistic.

2 Point Perspective

I have never heard of two-point perspective until it was assigned to me. When I heard it, I thought that it was going to be hard because I didn’t know how to draw in two-point perspective. After looking at the assignment and how to do it, I saw that it was going to be easy.

The way I did the first picture (22nd & Arch) it that first I looked at how it was suppose to look, then I drew my horizon line and vanishing point. After that, I drew the buildings, street, and sidewalk. Then I put in the little details that I saw and did some shading where it was needed. For the second picture, first I drew my horizon line and vanishing points at the end of the line. Then, I spaced off where each letter in my nickname will be. After that I drew the letters and shaded the inside of the letters.

The hardest part of this assignment, would be trying to get the lines in the right places and at the right direction. This was hard for me because the lines would look really different then what it was suppose to be.

Shade

To me shading is easy and simple to me, so when I heard that we had to do an assignment that had something to do with shading, I was okay with it. When drawing something, I feel as though shading comes with the package because to make it more realistic, you would shade certain parts.

The way I started this assignment is that first I drew the square and then put in the circles where they was needed. After that, I shaded the parts that needed to be shaded by looking at the website that was given. The final thing I did was smudge in some parts to make it look right. I had to use different pencils then regular ones because the shading wouldn't come out like it was suppose to. So I used thicker pencils.

TLancaster BM

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in Spanish 2 - Gierke on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 12:05 pm
The Q3BM was to make a Google Site with language tutorials and some events, places, restaurants that are in Philadelphia. My group decided to take the events, and places that we wrote and put it on blogger. Also we had a slide show of the places that we chose because it would be easier to find the areas and it made the website more professional.

I learned how to say where to go, how to get there and how to make a web page.

I feel as though my final project was good but it could have been better because everything that was suppose to be on there wasn't.

If I could redo my project I would change the layout and the places that we chose.

What a Hairy Day by Tamatha Lancaster

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in English 2 - Pahomov on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at 8:41 am
Have you ever seen people walking with their hair looking good and shiny? Have you wondered why and how they get their hair that way? There's many reasons why they care about hair so much. And this is your chance to find out why from two people.

English Project-Interview
Reflection:

To cross a boundary means that you do something that is over the top. It’s when you do something that goes against what you expect. Some examples of crossing boundaries are that you could break that one rule that your parents told you not or you where once that annoying loud person then all of a sudden got quiet and shy. Crossing boundaries can affect any and everybody. If you do something that people don’t expect you to do then it can affect the way they think of you. It can destroy relationships or bring people closer together.

When I first heard of the project I was happy because I couldn’t wait to interview people but when I actually did it, it was kind of difficult. It was hard trying to find the right time for the person to be interviewed and sometimes they wouldn’t actually give me a lot to work with so I had to ask more and more questions so I could get a story. Then I finally decided that the topic I was doing wasn’t going anywhere so I went with another topic. This topic helped me learn more things about my friends because it was about something that they loved, their hair. I found out why they loved it so much and why. It turned out that it had to do something with their pass and their parents. After I was done with these interviews I found out that I didn’t really know my friends then I expected. When I got my second topic, my strength was that I was able to keep my interviewee talking and giving more background information to their story.

I didn’t really know how to use GarageBand, this would be my first time using it. So I had to go to one of my friends for help. When I was editing my work, I found out that it took time and a lot of work because you had to make sure that there was no background noise and that the volume of the people wasn’t to low or too loud. I didn’t expect that the editing part of the project would be so long, I’d say that it took me hours to get it all right. Then I didn’t want to just have people talking so I tried to find a song that went with my story and something that wasn’t too hype. One of my weaknesses during this part of the project was actually trying to find out what should stay and what should go. To me everything was good but it was too long so I had to cut some things out and keep the important part. My strengths were that, after I found out how to work GarageBand, it was really easy for me to edit and add things to my podcast.

The feedback that I got from my peers was helpful because they were saying that there were parts where you couldn’t hear the person so I had to make it louder. If I have not gotten any feedback from my peers I would’ve gotten a low grade on my podcast. Also getting feed back from my peers tell me my strengths and weaknesses so I would know what I can improve next time I do a project.

Advanced Art Quarter 2

Take 200 Pics/Edit 200 pics

When I found out that we had to take 200 hundred pictures, I was shocked because I didn't know how I was going to take 200 pictures in a week. But when you actually do it, it's not that hard and it goes quick because you're having fun taking pictures. After taking 200 pictures we had to photoshop 5 of them. The reason for taking 200 pictures is because you would get a variety of different pictures, some will bad lighting and focus and some with good lighting and focus. When I found out that I had to photoshop some pictures, I was excited because I was learning something new. I didn't really know how to use photoshop and this was my chance to learn.

When I photoshopped my pictures, I chose five of my favorite pictures. And then I did different things to my pictures. For one, I took a picture of my hallway then photoshopped a creepy little girl in it, for another it was a picture of my aunt and I photoshopped my face into it and made her eyes red. For the next one it was a picture of me and my two friends and I photoshopped us into a concert. I took a picture of me and then put bubbles in it. And the last one I took a picture of me and my friend and then put leaves in it.

The hardest part of this assignment was taking one pictures and photoshopping it in another because when I tried to crop it out, parts of the picture was getting cut out because my hand wasn't that steady. Also I had to get the right background or picture because sometimes it would be too big or small. Another thing that was difficult was making my aunt eyes read because the red was going on her skin and it wasn't even.

Internet Sculpture

I didn't have a clue what to make when I found out that I had to make something off the internet. At first I was going to make a piece of clothing, then I was going to make a picture frame, and then I finally decided that I was going to make a phone booth. The reason I was going to make a phone booth is because a phone is something I can't live without. Also because a phone booth is something no one would think to make.

The whole process while making the phone booth was easy. First I got an old shoe box and then covered the outside of it with paper because the outside couldn't be painted without it. Next I took a mix of blue and black and painted the outside and inside of it. Then I took the bottom of the box and cut it down some so it can be the part with the numbers on. I cut pieces of paper out with the numbers, star, and pound sign on it and glued it to the box. I then glue the piece with the numbers on it to the bigger box and painted the whole thing. After that I took the base that my perfume was on because it looked liked a phone and painted it black. Then I put a string at the end of it and connected it to the bottom of the box.

Larger Clear Object

I wasn't shocked or hesitant of making a large clear object because we did it before. So it's not like I don't know what I'm doing. But making a larger clear object does make me more confident of making one. I was happy that we had to make a larger clear object because this one of my favorite assignments. And since I already made one before which was smaller, I wanted to make one with an object that I didn't use yet.

To make the larger clear object, first I decided which clear object I wanted to draw. Then I decided to do a object that looked like a measuring jar. Then I took a piece of charcoal and shaded the whole paper black. Next, I started to draw the object. I took an eraser and erased the parts that were clear and places where it was lit. Then I darken the places that were dark on the object and then made a shadow for the object. Lastly, I made a table like figure for it so it looks like it's not floating in mid air.

Copy A Master

I love to draw so copying a master piece is one of my favorite assignment. When I was looking for a picture to copy, I was searching for something that wasn't to hard or to easy. I finally found a picture that was called "Donkey and Cart". I decided to choose this picture because it was something that I've never done before so I was welling to try it.

I started with the end of the picture and when I was done with the end, I did the front then the middle; this part is just the donkey, cart, and the man. After doing that I did the rest of the pictures and then put the details in it.

“What Happened to Just Being Average?”

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in English 2 - Pahomov on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 2:10 pm

“Yo I wanna go somewhere like!!”

“Where you wanna go?” I said

“Idk where can we go?”

“Uh….Ight lets see. You can go bowlin’, skatin’, play double dutch, go shoppin’, watch a movie, take a breeze, or go find outha people to hang wit.” I said thinking.

“Man, you know I can’t bowl r skate. And you know well enough I don’t jump no rope dats too girly foe me. I don’t want to go shoppin’ or watch a movie. I don’t want to take a walk. So let’s go find Keem and B Ran and see if dey can come out.”

“Ard.” I said

I grew up in North Philly, where you heard cops sirens everyday and people arguing. Where you never heard anyone talk proper and if you did you would get jump. The area where all the boys was on the corner trying to make money for a living. Since living here I could never talk “proper”, everything that came out my mouth was slang. All day and night that’s what you heard. I did it so much that I couldn’t even get out of it. My parents even told me I needed to learn to speak right because they couldn’t figure out what I was saying. They told me that I would need to fix the way I speak before I went to high school interviews.

“Why do you feel as though you’ll be a good influence into coming into Franklin Learning Center?”

“I would be a good influence into coming into Franklin Learning Center because I am supportive, helpful, and I’m excellent when it comes to doing my work and paying attention.” I said proudly.

“And what would you bring to this school?”

“I would bring my intelligence, my artistic skills, and my manners everyday no matter what. And I would never bring my problems to the school property.” I responded.

“Okay, very nice it was good speaking to you.”

“You too.” I said

It took me a while to learn how to speak proper but I finally did. I would only speak that way if I was interviewing somewhere or being nice or even talking to my the adults in my family. This became a problem to me one day because I was so used to speaking proper that I started using it around my friends. When they heard me talk they kept asking me why was I talking the way I was. I didn’t know what they were talking about at first because I didn’t realize how I was talking to them. After finally noticing, I told them what was up and about what my parents said. They told me that I had changed, that I was talking white and that it was creeping them out. They also told me that I was trying to be better than them now that I’m going to high school. I didn’t know what to do because how would I remember to keep switching up the way I talk when I’m around them. And after thinking about it I was kind of mad that they said I talked white and that I had changed, just because I talked different from them now in a more proper tone, I’m considered different. I’m the same person that they knew before but just talk a little bit better. So now every time I see them they would say “Do you still talk like a white girl?”  I don’t respond to them when they say stuff like that so they would think that I still do.

After thinking about it some more I came to realize something. Were they right? Did I change? Was I not that North Philly girl who talked nothing but slang? Was talking proper make me better than them? I started to frown upon the thoughts. I went to my mom to see what she thought.

“Mom do I talk white?”

“What do you mean do you talk white?”

“Like do I sound white…proper white?”

“No you just sound proper. There’s no such thing of proper white. Why you ask?”

“Because my friends said I sound white when I talk.  And that I’m trying to be better than them since I changed the way I talk. So now I’m trying to switch up the way I talk every time I’m ‘round dem cuz dey gonna keep makin fun of me. And I don’t know what to do. I’m just tryin to be me and I can’t help it if I talk dis way now. I’m not tryin to be betta den ‘em I’m not. Man, IDK!!” I said sadly.

“Well it look like it to me that you got your language back again. But don’t worry about what they say. They are just jealous that you are going somewhere and they not. And heck you just may be better than them if you keep up the work that you’re doing. They’re mad because they have to work on the corners to get money since they can’t keep a job when you’re going to be the owner of a job. So forget what they say just be you and do what you think is comfortable for you.”

Ever since then I kept the words in my mind of what my mom had said. My friends got mad after telling them what my mom said and that I agreed with it but I didn’t care they wasn’t true friends anyway. I don’t worry about what people think or say about the way I talk or sound. If they don’t like, tough luck because I do. Yeah I may switch up the way I talk sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident, but it doesn’t bother me. Language can either bring you to the top of the world or it can tear you down depending on what and whom you are dealing with. Like me, the way I speak at interviews are going to take me places since I sound professional but that same voice was going to ruin my relationships with certain people.

In the essay called “I Just Wanna Be Average” by Mike Rose it says, “I just want to be average.’ That woke me up. Average? Who wants to be average?” This quote from the story spoke to me a lot because people don’t think about what they really want when they say certain stuff. They always think that being on top is always good and the best but it’s not. You don’t always have to be greedy and be on top, you can just be in the middle and have a piece of everything. I knew so many people like this and I used to be one of them. All I ever wanted to be was on top, I didn’t want to be average; I wanted to be better and more popular than everyone. But now I just want to be and do me. Being average is the best way to go for me. You’re not in the higher class where everyone knows who you are and every step you make, but you’re also not in the lower last class where you would die for attention and to be popular. To me being average is the key to my life; I can fit into any group whether it’s with people who talk slang or with people who talk professional. And being average brought me so far and I don’t plan into letting it go.

I'm really proud on how my project turned out especially with my sound acting crazy. I'm also proud of how much description I had.

The hardest part of completing this project was the outfits I was going to use and how to put it together since my sound wasn't working at the time.

If I could do this over again I would change the outfits I had and how many I had. I would also change the way my projected looked.

Not The Crystal!!

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in English 2 - Pahomov on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 3:39 pm
(Door opens and bell ring)

Ms. Brown, now I know that you said I couldn’t come back to your motel, but I have nowhere else to go. (Sigh) If you turn me away I will freeze, it’s 12:00 in the morning and it’s cold outside. It’s not even my fault that I got kicked out of the house this time. Someone, which is my brother,  set me up I just know it. If I tell you what happened will you then let me stay? (Pause)

(Walk back and forth) Ok, so I was in my room dancing and singing to my favorite song by Chris Brown, until my mom came in my room. “Joesy, I’m out with a couple of friends so look after your brother until I get back. Oh, and make sure that nothing happens to my crystal my mom gave to me.” When she left I continued to dance and sing. My little brother Joshua came to me saying that he was hungry so I went downstairs with him. He was in a playful mood that he almost knocked over the crystal so I yelled and told him to sit down. After I got him something to eat I went back upstairs. I was minding my own business, when Joshua came to my room again. “ Josey I want a twinkie. Give me a twinkie!” I told him that we didn’t have anymore but he kept saying that we did because the box was on top of the refrigerator. I told him that there was nothing in the box so he got mad. Twenty minutes later I hear a crash downstairs, so I run down to the living room to see what it was. And I see that mom’s crystal was on the floor broken into a million pieces. I panicked and started to pick the pieces up when my mom came through the door.  “AAHH!! Why would you do this to me? I told you to make sure that nothing happens to my crystal and I come back and see this.” “But mom, I didn’t do this, Jousha did.” “I can’t believe that you would blame your little brother for something you’ve done.” “But mom I…” “Stop no more excuses. I can’t take this anymore with you arguing with me or getting into trouble. I’m just done! Get out of my house.” “Mom, you’re going to kick me out because your crystal is broken?” ”No, I’m kicking you out because I’m tired of your drama. You’re always getting into fights, arguing with people, and getting put away. So get out my house.”

After we argued I went to my room to pack my things when Joshua came back in my room smiling and laughing. And before I left I tried to tell my mom that it wasn’t me but she didn’t want to hear it. I went to some of my other friends’ houses but their mom don’t like me but I know that you do so that’s why I’m here now. Hoping that you will help me.

So can I please stay, I promise that I won’t bother your costumers. I won’t even be here in the daytime; only at night to go to sleep. (Pause) Ok…fine (gets mad) let me go out in the cold to freeze. No shelter, no heat, no food. I thought you would be different from the others but I see that you’re exactly the same. (turns around goes to door then stops)

(speaks to herself) Why don’t people like me? I try to do everything for them and they treat me like this. I feel alone, like no one cares. And here I am trying to get help from someone, who I thought I could trust but looks like I can’t. I might as well just steal a key to get a room. That’s it! Why stay outside in the cold when I can just steal a key and be warm. Wait…No… I can’t… she trust me and so does her daughter. We’ve been best friends since 1st grade. I can’t do this to her, to them. What am I going to do? I try to do everything right but it always seems to come back to bite me. (Cries a little)

(turns around to see if she’s still there) You’re really going to send me out there in the cold? What kind of an adult are you? And out of all people, out of the whole world, I thought that at least you would see where I’m coming from. (Mrs. Brown holds up a key) Are you serious? You are giving me a key to a room? (hugs) Oh thank you, thank you, thank you! I’m sorry about what I said earlier, I didn’t mean I, I was just mad that’s all. I promise that I’ll pay you for the all the time I stay. Matter of fact (gets money and hands to Ms. Brown) here is some money for this week.

(walks away to room)

Q1 Art Portfolio

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 3:02 pm
The reason why I do the work I do because I was assigned to do for class or because that's what I want to draw at that moment. When I do my work because it was assigned to me, my goals are to get it done but to also make it look well because my work describe who I am as a student. And when I draw just because I want to, my goals are to make it meaningful and also look well because there's a reason to why I draw these pictures, like sometimes there will be a story behind them.

My favorite tool is pastels because they kind of bring they pictures to life when I mix and smear the colors in. My favorite material is paper that is smooth and thick because the picture looks way better and when I use different tools to draw my work with, it doesn't go through. And I prefer to use smooth paper because when I use paper that has a rough texture to it, the picture don't have the same quality as the picture that was done on smooth paper. The way I make decision throughout my work is that I look at what I'm trying to draw and the texture I want to come out of that. Then I get the materials that give that pictures those qualities and do my work.

While I was working on the figure drawing, I chose the right color that would bring the picture out then I start drawing the shapes that make up the picture. Next I connected the shapes to make the outline of the person and then did the details such as the shading and the creases of the shirt. Finally I went back over me work with a different color to make the body shape even better.

TAM
TAM
The first time I ever heard of drawing a clear object was when my teacher, Ms. Hull announced it. I thought that drawing a clear object was just drawing a object but it's not. When she showed us a video about how to draw a clear object it was simple to me now. And now that I know how to draw and shade clear objects, I can work on my progress by working on more on my spare time.

While I was working on the clear object, I shaded the paper before I drew the object. Next I chose the clear object I wanted to work on then I started to draw the shape of the object. Then I drew the details of the object like the bottom part of the object that you can see on the other side. After that I made the light and dark shading of the object and then smeared around the outline of the object because clear objects don't have a dark outline. Finally, I put the object's shadow into the picture and then smeared it a little so it wouldn't be really dark.

Mi Verano Pasado

Explain this project in your own words.

This project is like a summary of what you did over the summers. it didn't just have to be last summer but any summer and you had to present it. it could be an album, keynote, collage, ect.

How did you apply the SLA core values to your project?

The way I applied the core values are that for inquiry I was asking what pictures I wanted to use and how I wanted them to be presented. Then for research I started going around looking for the pictures. After that I started putting the project together And then I collaborated with my peers to see if there was anything I needed change.

What did you learn about Spanish through completing this project?

I learned that some new words and how to use them.

Did you have any major break-throughs or a moment where everything started clicking? Or maybe instead everything fell apart?

When the teacher first mentioned the project I knew automatically what I wanted to do which was a keynote but things didn't go the way I planned so I did an IMovie instead.

What did you change about your final project based on peer feedback?  What did you change based on Srta. G’s feedback?

I changed my grammar and the way the project was going to look. I was going to do a keynote but then decided to do it on imovie.

If you had the opportunity to start your project all over again, how would you do it differently?

If I could do this project over I changed my pictures and choose more of them.

Did you enjoy this project? Why or why not?

I did enjoy this project because I love talking about my summers and how much fun I had.

Do you have any suggestions for me if I do this same project next year?

I have no suggestions.

"Why I Write"

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in English 2 - Pahomov on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 1:13 pm
I write to tell my stories
So people know my life.
I write to show how I feel
Whether I'm happy or sad.
I write so I can share who I am,
What I do, and what I like.
I write because it's what I do best

I write to get my point across.
I write to communicate with others,
Because sometimes it's hard for to say aloud.
I write because that's what I normally do
I write to talk about the people I love
No matter who it is,
Whether it's my family or friends.
But most of all I write,
Because I'm me.

Element Print Project 2011

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in Art - 9 - Hull on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 9:21 am
The element that I am doing is Manganese, the symbol is Mn and it is number 25 on the periodic table. Some uses of this element are that the dioxide is used in drying paints and it is used in steel, batteries, axles, and rail switches. The way I came up with the idea was that I chose three ideas and then thought that batteries would be cool to do because I didn't know what was in them.

When I first had my idea for my print I was going to have five batteries; three standing and two laying down, that was going to have every detail that a battery have. Then when I was moving forward to putting it on paper and trying to find my negative and positive space, I had came to a problem. The problem was some of the line for the print shouldn't have been there and that some of the picture wasn't going to be able to be seen because of the negative space. So I did it over and had some out and had some line thicker. After getting the perfect picture that I wanted I transferred it to the linoleum block and then printed it by putting paint on it then putting it on paper. Then I did the final touches by ripping the edges off.

When I was working on this project, I thought that it was going to be super easy but I was wrong, there was some difficulties. One was cutting out the picture in the linoleum block. Another thought was that it was going to be fun  and it was. If I was to do it different I would choose another idea because I wouldn't mind going through that experience again since now I know what i am doing.

The Two Kinds of Cruelty & How Can You Stop Animal Abuse?

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in English 1 - Dunn on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2:01 pm
So now people know that animals of all kinds are being abused all around the world. In the last two blogs I've said that many animals are being abused at home, in hotels, and in circuses. People should now know from my two blogs that animal abuse is a serious crime and need to be stop right away

There are two areas where animals abuse falls under and they are passive and active cruelty. Passive cruelty is typically when you neglect your animals. But even though it doesn't sound serious, it is. Some cases are, starvation, dehydration, leaving the animal infected, and letting the collar grow into the animals' skin, or even a lack of getting the animal medical attention. Some investigators feels as though neglecting animals is due to ignorance so they would tell the pet owner about it and then check on them to see that they are doing their jobs as pet owners. And when an animal is severely hurt, they would suggest that the animal would be removed from the area and be immediately taken to urgent medical care. Active cruelty is when a person physically abuse animals themselves. This is a type of abuse that should be taken very seriously because this type of behavior is associated with sociopathic behavior. People would usually kill or threaten to kill a home pet to get a family member into sexual abuse, to be quiet about a previous abuse, or to just torture the people to show that they have power.

Animal abuse in some states are illegal and there are ways in which you could stop animal abuse from happening. You could make a call. Some neighborhoods have a animal control or shelter in them, so you could save the number into your phone to be prepared and if you don't have one call the police apartment to report. When you call give the people a description of the location, the date and time, the kind of people and animal. You could take some pictures and videos and also give some names to who might have seen the incident. And finally get ready to testify. It would be a stronger case if you give your name instead of being anonymous so you could win the case since animals can't speak for themselves.

Finally I say make a change, help these animals so they could leave their lives freely.

Why Abuse the Creatures Who Did Nothing Wrong?!? Pt 2

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in English 1 - Dunn on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 6:12 pm
In my first blog, I mentioned that I was doing a project in English class called "You and the World". I also mentioned that I was looking for information about animal abuse and wanted to let people know what is happening to the animals around them because I love animals. Also in my first blog, I found out some information that was about how some animals around the world are being treated like, the elephants in the circus and the horses in the United States.

This time I found out more information about how animals are being treated in the United States. In New York, an abuser was convicted with two cases. One case was for a cat name Scruffy who was drench with lighter fluid and then set on fire leaving the poor animal severely burned to the muscles in the legs. The other case was involved with a cat name Madea who was so viciously beaten that her lungs was ripped and had to be put down. I also found that in California, a man name Timothy Arie Kooyman was sentence d for seven years and eight months behind bars after he was found guilty of abusing cats in his motel room in Corona, California. It was said that in that motel room he would break the cats legs before cutting it off with an ax. Also where he ran over another with his truck and killing a third cat by continuing slicing her with razor blades. Lastly, a poor dog, who was renamed Angel by rescuers, escaped form his family’s yard and was found the next morning suffering deep cuts on his head, face, back, and feet apparently after being hit with a machete about six times. His tail was nearly detached and had to be amputated.

When I hear about the things that people do to these poor animals, I wonder if those people ever stop and wondered why they were doing this or what would happen if they did abuse these animals. I sometimes wonder if they would feel guilty of what they did and see that they took a poor innocent animals' life. And for what, to get even with somebody or to just take their anger out on them.

In my further research, I will continue to look for reasons why people abuse animals and how people can help things like animals abuse from happening.

Why Abuse the Creatures Who Did Nothing Wrong?!?

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in English 1 - Dunn on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 6:59 pm
The project that I am doing is for 9 grade English called "You and the World". Some people in the world don't know what's going on around the world or where they live. All most people know is that there are some issues that are going. People of all ages should know at least some things that are happening if not all, so they can get a clue to what is happening around them.

Throughout the years I have been seeing how people treat the animals that are around them. Many people may say that they love animals but behind doors they are treating them with plain old disrespect. And there are no one around to tell them to stop so the animals can live their lives. So to let people know, what may be going on around their neighborhood, I decided to do my project on animal abuse. I am interested in learning about this topic because i love animals. Then to know how some of them are being treated is tremendously heartbreaking. And knowing that some people don't even care about what's happening to them makes you wonder what did animals ever do to them.

For the past days I have been doing some research on how all kinds of animals are being abused. I found out that the elephants that are used in circuses are chained up 23 hours a day from the day they were young. Also that the animals at the circuses are being poked with sharp objects, beaten, and whipped to do their routines. And that 10,000 horses in the US are being slaughtered for horse meat for Europe and Asia but since the last the slaughter plant was shut down in 2007, the horses are know being shipped to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered. And lastly I found out that if animal abuse continues to go on, in the year of 2022, 22% of the animals will be extinct.

I feel as though animal abuse is a problem that should be taken care of right away before it's too late. Also that animals have the right to live just as well as humans. Lastly, I think that we as humans should take action and speak for these animals because they can't speak for themselves.

I will continue to do further research to how animals are being abused and to why do people abuse animals. I will also find out how people can help them and what they can do. And I won't stop doing research until the people know that they need to help animals.

Negative Space

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 1:27 pm
Negative space is when the area or background around an object in a picture is shaded/colored but the object itself is not. The way I found negative space in my cut out is that I knew that the object (the owl) would be positive space so the extra space around the object would be the negative space. And in my negative drawing, the way I found negative space is by outlining the objects first then shading the background behind it. It helps an artist to see in negative space because when you look at a negative space drawing, you can see and focus on the shape/structure of the object. Seeing in negative space does enhance drawings because the picture would pop out at you and would have your eye focus on the shape and not the details.

Drawing the Art Studio

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 1:41 pm
The project was to draw the art room. In order to do so first we had to apply what we learned from the first class which was drawing boxes around the vanishing point and and drawing orthagonals lines from the boxes to the vanishing point. Then you had to apply what we learned from the other classes which was making objects look 3D. And when you put all that together you get this art project.

The process I used to finish my project was first picking a wall in the class to make it your back wall, next I found the center of the paper, and then drew that wall. Afterwards, I used orthagonals lines to get the other sides of the wall. When I got the walls done, I drew in my windows and columns. And then I drew in the things that was inside the room such as the tables, stools, cabinets, pictures, and blinds.

The things that was easy for me to learn was drawing the room and putting in the furniture inside of it. And the hardest thing to learn was finding the center of the room.

Maria Latorre did a great job on her project. When she did her drawing you could see that she took her time. Also the way she had her windows and furniture really looked like that it was in 3D. And when I look at her drawing, it makes me feel as though that I am inside the classroom.

Changes of My SLIDE!!!

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in Technology - Hull on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 9:12 am

There were many things wrong with my slide. The background in my picture was awful and the words was too small. So I decided to change my slide to make a lot more better. To help me change it, I used the information giving to me from my classmates and teacher and from presentation zen.

So I had used alpha to take out the background from the picture because it was distracting from what was important it. I put a frame around the picture to make it look a little better. Then I made the text bigger because in presentation zen it says don't be afraid to make the words big. I made "never" green to make it contrast with the other colors.  And I put the heart on the picture because its showing that the two friends love each other.

Drue and Tamatha-Greetings/Saludos

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in Spanish 1 - Sanchez on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 7:22 pm

Greetings/ Saludos

1. When seeing a new person and want to say hi.

2.  Español                                    English

    ¡Hola!                                                 Hi!

    ¡Buenos días!                            Good morning!

    ¿Qué tal?                                     How are you?

    Bein gracias!                                       Good, thank you!

   ¿Y tu?                                                 And you?

Chao                                            Bye!

¡Buenas Tardes!                      Good, evening!

¡Buenas noches!                      Good, night or Good afternoon

Notice there are two explanation points, because then the person saying it can tell if it’s a statement or a question. Also, BuenOs and BuneAs , one has an O , and the others have A. That’s because the O is masculine and one is feminine.

Drue and Tamatha- T vs Ud. Questions

Posted by Tamatha Lancaster in Spanish 1 - Sanchez on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 7:11 pm

               * Tú vs. Ud. Questions

      Explanation to teach topic:

1.     Greeting your friends and their parents.

2.     Explanation to teach topic:

There are two type of ways to greet someone-informal and formal.

When you use informal you would use tú and when you use formal you would use usted (ud.).

When you are talking to your amigos you would use tú and when your  talking to your amigo’s parents, you would use ud.

You would use ud. when talking to an adult to show a sign of respect.

                Example:

                Tú:

                ¿Como estás (tú)?.....How are you?

¿Como te llamas (tú)?....What’s your name?

¿De dónde eres (tú)?....Where do you from?

¿Cuántos años tienes (tú)?.....How old are you?

                Ud.:

                ¿Como es (ud.)?...How are you?

¿Como se llama (ud.)?...What’s your name?

¿De dónde es (ud.)?.....Where are you from?

¿Cuántos años tiene (ud.)?.... How old are you?

Notice how there are marking on top of certain letters. And there are two question marks, an upside down one in the front and a regular one in the back. We put two question marks or two exclamation point in front of a sentence so you would know if the sentence is a question or a statement.
