Quarter 4 Benchmark Ryan Barksdale-White
Q4 Proyecto
I wrote a poem for this quarters spanish benchmark describing my life goals and past experiences. I had difficulties trying to use my basic knowledge of poetry and incorporating my spanish knowledge as well I had to really utilize my resources around me. I enjoyed this project I got to remember the good parts about my life that has happened and what to look forward to in the future.
Below is the poem I submitted on paper for my final Spanish two Benchmark!

A Watered Down Tomorrow
This is the story of a boy who desires to be a fancy dancer. His father, a righteous protector of the law, wants the child to grow up the same way. The boy runs away and involves himself with a very charismatic drug lord with the power of hypnotism, who promises to let him be a fancy dancer. Along the way, he develops a relationship with a box of drugs.
A Watered Down Tomorrow was originally meant to be a parody of film noir. This, along the way, was discarded in favor of still making the movie look like an old film, but it stopped trying to have any sort of roots in film noir or any other sort of cinematic style. The film does not utilize the camera angles, lighting, and many of the themes that made film noir what it was, but it is still a story of crime, drugs, a hard-boiled detective, and fancy dancing.

In the process of this benchmark, I enjoyed looking through all the pictures in the past and it was very fun. It brought back a lot of memories one wouldn't really remember at random moments. Some struggles I went through were scanning the pictures. My scanner wasn't connected to my laptop, so I couldn't really use it. What I had to use was a camera. I attempted using Photo Booth, but that was a fail. So, I resorted to using my camera on my phone - which would explain some of the horrible quality. Next time, if I were to re-do this project, I would find a working scanner and use that for better pictures.

For my project if i were to change anything it would have to be the way that i did it. I would use a different program or make a story or something like that. During the project i struggled the most with getting pictures for my project. With my project the best part of it i think is the way that i set it up.

I made a poem that represents me as a person and what im going to be when I grow up! I think what I could have done differently is that it doesn't really sound like a poem when translated into english. I think what I did well was I met All the requirements.

Q4-Espanol Proyecto - Allen Yang
My project is a Comic life movie on how I was when I was born, to age 7 through 10, present day and also to the future.
I like that it reflects on my life using spanish. A language that is foreign to me and some of the things we've learned over the course of year rushed back to my mind.
Perhaps next time I might use something different besides Comic Life and iMovie.

But, all in all, culture is something that represents who you are. Without our culture, we wouldn't be able to learn about our ancestors and what they did. They created movements that us young adults can be a part of and create a better generation. Religion plays a huge role in our lives. Everyone has their own beliefs and their own God. People judge you based on your religion and sometimes, they misjudge you. For an example, if you're a Christian, people think that all you do is talk about God and you're pure, but in all honesty we're just as normal as everyone else. We don't always talk about God, but if it comes down to it, we will. Well, I can't say everyone, but I don't always talk about God. I'm just like everyone else. I make bad decisions at times, but that's just the human brain and how we are.
Nowadays, our society is getting tougher and tougher. They judge based on how you look and tell you how you should be. For an example, a lot of young ladies and gentlemen are insecure nowadays because our society thinks that showing off your body is considered beautiful. Everyone is beautiful in his or her own way. I honestly don't agree with society all the time because what they think is right is wrong to me. As I mention above, girls show off their body because they feel as though that that's the only way they can find the "right" one. In all honesty, you can't find the "right" one by showing off your body. I, as a Christian believer, I think that you shouldn't have to show your skin for attention. People should love you for you and not for your body. I love having group conversations in class about society because I can relate to it and it's something I can talk with passion and care. Every time we talk about these situations, I’m able to express my feelings and have a voice in these conversations.
All in all, this year was tough but I made through it. I learned a lot about my culture, society, and religion. Society shouldn't determine who you are as a person because who are they to judge us? We, as individuals can only judge ourselves.
One of my favorite journal entry I wrote was journal entry 10/12/10. During this time, we were reading the book Lord of The Flies. This book is all about surviving and depending on one another in order for them to make it through another day. Not only did this book deal with surviving but it dealt with society. In the book, Piggy was a chubby kid who had no voice and the boys were teasing him.
During quarter 2, we were assigned to do a project that deals with the world. Many students chose economy, educations, war, etc. But I chose society and religion. The reason why I chose these two topics is because I'm interested on how people feel about religion and how the society runs. I felt strongly about religion and how it affects our society. During my Podcast, my pastor took it to a different level and she combined those two topics together.
Oh goodness, the year is almost over. This third quarter was one of the hardest quarter I've ever experienced. It was all about the world's problems and a situation that people deal with it nowadays. We had to choose a country and a problem that the country deals with. For this project, I chose to work with the country Congo and rape. I chose rape because it's something that I experienced and it'll be interesting to write down my point of view. Not only that, but it actually helps me see my situation in a different point of view. So here's a look at my Monologues. I hope you enjoy.
During the third quarter, we also did a portfolio of poetries. I wasn't sure of this project because I'm not poetic and I just didn't feel confident in it at all. But as time goes by, I've began to get the hang of it and I began to get more and more inspiration. Society is one of the things that inspire me to write most of my poems because I just feel strongly about it.
Benchmark Reflection
1. What is your project?
My project is an attempt to create a small children's book/scrapbook. I really wanted it to represent who I used to be; small, very small. It may sound strange, but I've always loved small things, and I thought my little book was just perfect. I included quite a few small facts about me and who I am.
2. What do you like about it?
I really like that it sort of represents me, simple with a twist. I'm pretty much always a happy person and I think this little book is very happy! Also, it's just adorable.
3. What would you do differently?
It's not really what I would do differently, but what I would add something. I was thinking about making a video to go along with the book, it would have been me reading the book and turning the pages.

Spanish Project Q4
Quarter 4 - Benchmark
I looked up how to make a marine biome. In order to do this I just had to look up different animals and other objects that were found in the biome. Although you can't see it very well, the hardest part was gluing the sand to the shoebox and making it appear rippled like waves.
Week 2 - Photoshopped Pictures
The first picture was a picture that I tried to photoshop. It didn't come out very well and I spent too much time just trying to perfectly cut myself out. The second photo I used flickr instead of photoshop. I find flickr easier to use, and easier for me to color contrast.
Week 3 - Copy a famous Artist
This was a picture that I found online. The different textures of the picture is was really intrigued me into trying to remake it. However one problem i had was trying to find the correct materials to try and remake the photo. In the end I couldn't find what to use, so I just used chalk pastels, but It didn't come out correctly.
Week 4 - Bike Drawing
Line Drawing
Negative Space
Shading
My bike drawings was the hardest part. I had a hard time trying to draw the bike and an even harder time drying to make them fit the requirements. I think my best bike drawing was the one where I used shading. This is mostly because that is one of my strongest skills, so that is the one I'm best at.
Week 5 - Outside Drawing
This is the picture that I am most proud of this quarter. We had to draw a scene from outside and on that week I was sick, so I just googled a picture. It was a picture of a tree in the sunset. I used oil pastels and created a really nice blend of several different colors. This is my favorite piece of the year. :)

This school year has been a wonderful
experience for me I have learned a lot of things. I've also begun to better
understand different morals or saying people live by. One thing I started to
understand is even though we have our freedom to do as we please. If people
tried to do what they are suppose to do, when others aren't watching then it
would help make their lives easier. I came to that realization during an
interview with my father.
Although
sometimes society gives people so much leeway to do as they please. Re-guarding
what is right. They began to over use the right of freedom. Which causes the
higher power to step into doing as they please no matter what the affect is on
those around. Just like in the book Night we read in class the young boy
Eliezer Wiesel who was deeply affect by the Holocaust due to the recognized
higher authority of Hitler an his men. I wrote an academic paper demonstrating
how is has affected him and the way he became.
That
also reminds me about the monologue assignment we had. Taken history and
bringing it back to life. Trying to show that even thought history tends to
heavily repeat its self that are some aspects of it that people just might not
know or fully understand. In my story I was telling how the higher authority
has affect a community.
My
favorite unit was the poetry. Just like any other form of writing it is a way
to express the mind. I made a poem portfolio an in it I have five poems.
I started to understand that you do not have to be an expert in a certain field
to be able to accomplish the work. I love poetry and I like to write it, but
when some people who feel the same way encounter another who might have a
stronger way of expressing than they do. The thought of not being an expert
really became a heavy thought.
Besides
my liking of the poetry unit I was also fond of was the Op-Ed on child
abuse. What was so interesting about this assignment was what ever we chose to
write about, we had to have a strong point and sort of give the story. The
topic of child abuse crossed my mind because it is something that is often no
touched. While I wrote it I felt like I was giving an article a voice and a
purpose. In my mind it was not only a piece a writing that was needed for class
it became a possible end to the problem for the younger generation.
When
I started this year it seemed as if it would be hard and the things the class
were going to learned would be overwhelming.
Some of the assignments and assignment reading over this year had make me have the general understand that every piece of writing made will not always make sense or come together. But it will always have a meaning and purpose.
Proyecto Q4BM
This project was by far more most favorite benchmark. It was all about myself. Hah. It involved me when I was a little one, me now, and me in the future. The best part to me was taking the photos from me when I was younger. Finding them, and scanning them was such a joy for me.
If I were to do this project again, i'd most likely make it into a physical book, and try to stay away from digital a bit.
Children's book
I like that the pictures are all different it looks like I am changing over time the art is changing.
I wish I had made an amazing story instead of just simple stuff but I like it for the most part.
