Negative Space Cut Out Reflection
Negative Space
Negative space is what surrounds an object. In my image the negative space is the orange since they were not cut out, therefore, they surround the yellow which was cut out. It helps an artist see in negative space so that they can give their artwork pop. It helps to give there work dimension. Seeing in negative space does help to enhance drawings. It helps to make them jump off of the paper. If something is in negative space it can people will look at it for longer because there is more to think about.

Negative/Positive Space Cut Out
A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)
Negative space is the space between and around the subject or subjects.
B. Explain how you found negative space in your cut out?
I found the negative space in my object by looking at light and dark areas in the image I used. Then, I cut out the positive space from my image, only leaving the negative.
C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?
It helps an artist to see the negative space because it makes it easier to draw the positive space. Seeing the negative space makes it easier to have the proper proportions of the subject.
D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?
Seeing in negative space does not enhance drawing for negative space does not require complexity. With negative space there are not details of the subject.

Does working out and lifting a fitter healthier lifestyle help your confidence
Working out: The answer to confidence?
Physical fitness is a huge thing to many. There are many different ways that people do to get fit and stay in shape like running, boxing, lifting weights, and many other things that needs you to work hard, get your heart beating and blood pumping to burn calories and build muscle. There are many benefits to living a fitter life like feeling better, looking better, being more capable and having benefits that goes as far as possibly living longer. Working out and living a better lifestyle can help your confidence because of the new self image that is made after the physical transformation..
In an article from lifesum.com there is a person who talks about their experiences of working out and also talks about how her physical transformation makes her feel more confident “I’ve lost count of how many before and after pictures I’ve seen where people have undergone the most radical of radical transformations, and shed half their bodyweight, and then they say something along the lines of, ‘Honestly though, it’s not the weight that’s the biggest deal, I am so much more confident in my body and in my own skin’. This is typically the point at which I roll my eyes and think to myself ‘OF COURSE you feel so much more confident, you’re slimmer and you hated your body before!’
But I’ve had a kind of aha! moment. I will say that I’m not sure if there is any psychology behind this, so feel free to disregard everything. All I know is that for me, working out has been strangely empowering.” This person says that she has found a confidence because of the body transformation that they went through from working out. It was said that this person hated their body before getting in better shape and comparing how they saw themself back then to now is a huge part of their new found confidence.
On a question and answer type of set up on this website called sharecare a question was asked. The question was ‘Does exercise help increase confidence?’ Jeff Coswell an NASM elite trainer said “Absolutely. Working out and seeing your body change definitely will help change your attitude towards yourself and even life. When you start feeling good about what you have accomplished your whole perception changes. As a personal trainer myself just seeing peoples eyes light up when the have lost that weight and body fat makes me even feel good. When you start looking and feeling better your whole attitude changes for the better. Have you ever met someone who said I have lost all this weight, dropped all this body fat and have more energy and I am miserable? Of course not because reaching these goals makes you feel you can accomplish anything. So work hard and feel great.” From Jeff Coswell quote it looks like he's saying that it's mostly a mental type of feeling that changes based on your progress and how you look. Once again it's the same Idea from paragraph 1 where the comparison to the before and after transformation has a huge boost in confidence.
In this article about a man who was suffering from chronic pain on a website called www.pickthebrain.com, the man in the article states that Working out has many benefits towards building your confidence. First, it teaches you the importance of making a decision and what really deciding is. It helps you to build a more positive self-image and an internal compass. You learn gratitude, discipline, and visualization. Finally, you learn to move more slowly, which makes you appear more confident and self-assured. Once again the idea of self image of brought up.
Due to the self image of humans, the idea of bettering ourselves is needed to make lives easier. This shows how working out and living a better lifestyle can help your confidence because of the new self image that is made after the physical transformation.
This is my best 2fer because of the connection I was able to make in the real world. This was also a topic that I was comfortable with and I personally workout a ton myself. I have seen the personal growth in me which makes my 2fer a lot more connectable with the audience and myself. The research I did was expressed in my 2fer and how I was able to piece things together which made me feel confident in my own work.

NEGATIVE SPACE CUT OUT REFLECTION
My Fake Relationship
"Petruchio: O slow-winged turtle, shall a buzzard take thee?
Katherine: Ay, for a turtle, as he takes a buzzard
Petruchio: Come, come, you wasp! I’faith you are too angry
Katherine: If I be waspish, best beware my sting
Petruchio: My remedy is then to pluck it out
Katherine: Ay, if the fool could find it where it lies"
(Act 2, Scene 1, Line 220-225)
Jenn and Vince at the Wedding
“ Jennifer: No, I mean there's no such thing as soulmates
Vince: So you sleep around?
Jennifer: Sorry, I’m not your type
Vince: I don’t have a type, what makes you think I have a type?
Jennifer: Please, have you ever heard the phrase ‘the clothes make the man’”
"Petruchio: Then tell me, if I get your daughter’s love, what dowry shall I have with her to wife?
Baptista: After my death, the one half of my lands, and in possession, twenty thousand crowns"
Jenns mom begging to pay for the wedding
“Vince: Wait a minute, aren't the bride's parents supposed to pay?
Jennifer: No way. We are not asking my parents to pay for our fake wedding.”
"Hortensio: Petruchio, since we are stepped thus far in, I will continue that I broached in jest. I can, Petruchio, help thee to a wife with wealth enough, and young and beauteous, brought up as best becomes a gentlewoman. Her only fault, and that is faults enough,
Is that she is intolerable curst, and shrewd, and froward, so beyond all measure that, were my state far worser than it is, I would not wed her for a mine of gold.
Petruchio: Hortensio, peace. Thou know’st not gold’s effect. Tell me her father’s name, and ’tis enough; for I will board her, though she chide as loud as thunder when the clouds in autumn crack.”(Act 1, Scene 2, Line 84-97)
In this section of the play Petruchio is explaining to Hortensio that he wants to marry rich. Hortensio jokes that he knows that Katherine needs to get married but that he wouldn’t marry her. Petruchio finishes off by telling Hortensio that he does not know the power of money and that he would marry anyone. In that time it was more acceptable for men to be in marriage with a submissive wife and money. It further helped the claim that marriage is just a deal and that it is alright to not want love out of it. Petruchio male place in society made it more acceptable for him to be deceitful in marriage. This is different from the scene in My Fake Fiance where Jennifer puts everything that she wants on the wedding registry because that is all she is in it for.
Jenn making the wedding registry
“ Sales Associate: Oh, I couldn't help but notice. You know there’s an easier way to do that. Everything is computerized these days, so just choose what you want, aim the gun at the barcode and pull the trigger. It's a lot of fun.
Jennifer: Wow this is fun
Sales Associate: Here you go. Well you know what they say? It pays to get married.”
Jennifer is now able to go off of the mantra “ It pays to get married” because her and Vince have established that that is all the want. Also because of the new a progressive nature of time Jennifer was not shamed for being honest about all the material items that she wanted out of marriage. Her friends and family even made it a reality when the bought her these items.
The reality about marriage is that is not all about love. It is a deal between two people whether they are in love or not where the both receive something out of it. Petruchio wanted money. Katherine wanted to be worth something in the eyes of society. Vince wanted to pay off his gambling debt and Jennifer wanted to refurbish her house. All marriage contains ulterior motives but in the beginning it was only acceptable for men to have them. Now the objects that people want in marriage have become for transparent and acceptable for both partners to want, especially women.
Negative/Positive Space Cut Out
To find negative space in my image I looked at the image and separated it into two parts, the actual bird it self and the background.
An artist can imagine every single part of a picture and create an image that unites all parts beautifully.
I think negative space can enhance your image if you want to do something different with your drawings. Being able to separate the background from the image can give you leeway to create and change different things within that image

Negative/Positive Space Cutout
Negative space is the empty space that is surrounding an image or an object. For every piece of positive space there is a piece of negative space around it. For example, if I were to show you a tree, the negative space would be the spaces around the tree and in between the leaves and branches. In my cut out, I found the negative space by looking at all the empty spaces, all of the places where there was empty space in around the bird. It can help an artist to see in negative space because it helps to define the image. Negative space is just as important as the positive space and the object itself. Negative space is so helpful to artists because it helps to balance the image and to define the shape. I think that seeing things in negative space can enhance drawings in some ways and in other ways it cannot. For example, when you draw the negative space of an object, you are leaving out many details of the object itself which can be important depending on what you are drawing. However, drawing just the negative space really provides an emphasis on the object and outline/shape of the object itself.

There are many media streaming services such as: Netflix, Hulu, and Youtube. People find themselves watching tv most of the time. A new trend with the availability of complete series and seasons of t.v. shows through streaming services is binge watching. Binge watching is a very popular trend now that streaming services have become more popular. People binge watch tv shows to escape reality; their world of boredom and depression to find themselves in something a lot more interesting, this does not always last forever, and can sometimes hold people back.
Most people find themselves watching television for fun. They just want to kill the time before their next task or assignment. However , there are some individuals that want a quick escape that will help them forget about their lives. One person who sought this out was writer, Julian Kimble. Kimble was struggling with depression and feelings that his life was meaningless. He had trouble getting out of bed, and completing daily tasks. He found his easy escape in television shows, remembering how he used to love tv when he was a child. This is what he wrote in his article on The Fader, “Between streaming services, premium channels, and network television, there’s an overabundance of shows, limited-series dramas, films, comedy specials, and documentaries to get lost in. But where others see a bottomless abyss, I see an opportunity to immerse myself in the winding narratives of other people’s lives.” From this it is shown that Kimble needed an escape due to his life beings overwhelming. He was trying to surround himself with fictional scenarios and problems because he wants to forget about his own. Notice how he says, “But where others see a bottomless abyss…”. He doesn’t know what’s best for him right now, he just sees a easy and quick fix and goes for it. However, conquering depression takes a lot of someone’s will power. Ignoring his problems and going somewhere else is digging the whole even deeper. He is not bettering himself by giving in to fantasy world of television.
People believe that binging television will make their lives better, but there is a study done by the University of Texas that suggests otherwise. During the study, hundreds of millennials were asked a series of questions about their binge watching habits to see what the psychological effects it has on someone. Newsweek wrote an article about the study. Here’s what they said about the outcome, “What they found was troubling—people who binge-watch are more likely to be depressed and lonely…” It was shown in the quote, that depression can be caused by binging. People are spending all of their time trying escape the real world into a fantasy one. They are losing track of their everyday life, and isolating themselves from it. This is why they feel so alone. They spend all their time watching tv, they start to lose focus of the real people around them. Eventually drifting apart from them. At times, they may believe this is a good thing. If they do not have any real life relationships they can focus all there time on the fake world, and they do not have to deal with the hardships of human relationships. However, this facade does not hold forever. When the fantasy ends, they return to reality and realize they are alone and worse off then they were before.
If binge watchers stopped to think about it, they would realize that binge watching is not just about trying to find happiness , but trying to abandon their lives because they are bored of them. Binge watching creates an quick and easy escape from reality. However, when people return they find themselves alone and depressed. Binge watching might seem helpful at first, but it’s just a unhealthy abyss.
I believe that this essay is my best 2fer. I am very passionate about my topic and my thesis. Binge watching Netflix and Television is something I find myself doing a lot. I have always thought that it was harmless, and an easy way to kill the time. However, I only recently realized what kind of negative effects that is having on me. Instead of using it to kill time, I use it as an excuse to sit in my room away from the rest of society which does not help my mental state at all. I have learned to stop watching a show after a couple episodes. There is nothing wrong with relaxing after a long day and watching some Netflix, but it should not be a hobby. It should stay as luxury. In my essay, I represented my point of view very well without using my direct opinions on the topic. My analysis reflected on what binge watching can do to someone’s mind. Overall, I find this to be my best 2fer, and I am very proud of it.
