Rockets Start Push for 2017 City Title with a 5-3 win over Friends Central

If winning the Fall League vs Friends and Independent schools didn't clarify the Rockets are a bonafide contender, a patient and consistent pre-season 5-3 win over Friends Central should.

Kicking off their 2017 campaign for a City Title, the Rockets were patient at the plate, drawing 7 walks and manufactured runs throughout. Timely hits by Seniors Jason Greene and Aaron Watson-Sharer set up run scoring singles by Juniors Ijustice Avery and Tony Brown. Freshman David Hammond made his debut with a gritty at-bat that led to a single, and a few batters later his textbook slide on a play at the plate made it 5-0, setting the Rockets bench ablaze.

Senior pitcher Lukas Supovitz-Aznar led the charge, but dealt to an unlikely partner behind the plate, with Ben Simon filling in for an injured Avi Cantor. Simon, in his first official start as catcher, fulfilled his prediction by throwing out a runner at 2nd to end the 1st. Simon would return to catch hard throwing Senior Leon Finney who only needed 13 pitches to retire 3 batters and earn the save.

While Rockets pitching (Aznar, Simon and Finney) combined to hold FCS to just one 1 hit, the defense behind them was the true story of the game. Senior Arsenio Gomez took home defensive player of the game honors with 3 put outs, from 2nd and 3rd, as well as starting a 4-6-3 Double Play to erase a rare FCS baserunner. 

While excited by what FCS's coaches and players saw as an underdog win, the sentiment among all was clear that a City Title will only be possible through hard work and playing as a family.

En este mural yo veo dos animales, una serpiente y un jaguar. Ellos están luchando por alguna razón. Ambos tienen afilados dientes. En el lado izquierdo es el dia, pero en el lado derecho es el noche. En el lado derecho hay un media luna y cuatro constelaciones. Algunos de los colores en este mural son azul, rojo, naranjo, negro, amarillo, morado, verde, y blanco. En el medio, los colores son velados juntos. Pintada por Rufino Tamayo.

Mi barrio se llama Bella Vista. Bella Vista es un lugar muy histórico. Es donde los primeros inmigrantes Italianos se colocaron. Una parte de mi barrio famoso es el mercado Italiano en la calle 9. Es un barrio muy diverso.
