I am choosing to interview Danielle Little for the Ethnomusicology Interview.

Jordan: Do you believe music has history?And Why?
"Yes.Music has call and response, one person telling a story or sending an important music."

Jordan: What is Ethnomusicology?
" The study of different types of music throughout history. The root in the word is "ethno" meaning different cultures or ethnicity. So ethnomusicology is the study and understanding of music through the years that derived from different cultures. "

Jordan: Do you think Artist create songs for a reason, such as telling a story?
" I think that messaging was through music existed in different times but not now.
Jordan: What are the three popular songs in 1960's? 

One song is "Ain't too proud to beg" by The Temptations, Another is "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Tammi Terrel. "Where Did Our Love Go "Supremes.

Jordan: "What is your favorite thing about music?"
The stories that artists tell through they're singing or rhythm.

The purpose of this project was to see how events from different time periods related to the music of that time period.

What questions were raised?
How was african american music influenced by the events as compared to non african american music?

What was your favorite part of the project?

Picking the three articles to use for my project.

Summary of the 10-20-30 BM

     This benchmark had us interview three people, one each from 10,20, and 30 years older than me. I asked them what their favorite song was from that time. The results I got were Ghostbusters, "Gloria" by Them, and "We will rock you" by Queen.
     On top of that, we researched historical events from around that time. A summary of these articles, as well as links to the articles themselves are located here.
     The purpose of this project was to study the music and events of different time periods. As well as study the similarities of the two.

Ethnomusicology

For this quarter our purpose in the benchmark was to find 3 people that were 10,20, and 30 years older than us and tell us a song they liked from when they were born. We also had to find events that occurred in the years 1986, 1976, and 1966 to match with the songs from those time periods. The reason why we had to find songs and events was to see how that specific time period had to do with african american history. As to the events like what was occurring in that time at Africa or the songs to how the singers saw life at that time and showed the world through lyrics. The best part of this project was actually finding out about the songs that were chosen and seeing the singers point of view. Also it was very fun to put all my effort onto the wiki and feel proud of the work i did. The most challenging part was finding events that related to African American history in those specific time periods.

Summary of the 10-20-30 Benchmark

The 10-20-30 BM was a study of music 10, 20, 30 years before I was born. The purpose was to study the relationships between African American events and the music of the time period. It is interesting to see the different genres that are popular in different time periods. for 1986 I got James Browns "Dr. Feel good." for 1976 I got The Ramones " blitzkreig bop. for 1966 I got, The Beatles Yellow submarine. As you can see, they are very different genres.

10-20-30 Project

​My 10-20-30 project I turned around so it became a 5-10-20-30-40 project. I interviewed people from all different ethnisities and backgrounds so my project could spread to more people. It includes music from the specific era, album cover, artist, article link, and an article affiliated with african american history of the time period. I also interviewed people on why they liked the song at that time. The quotes from the interview are on the page and some are translated. The best part was interviewing people. It was interesting to see how the music changed over time. THe hardest part was finding interesting articles that are readable. Most articles as you get closer to the current time period were mostly about murders. I have provieded a link to my page so you're able to see my work.

Reflection Q3 Bm

The purpose of the project was to learn about how music influenced and was influenced by different time periods, by interviewing different people.
Questions asked:
How does time influence music?
How does the music influence the culture?
How does pop culture in general compare to music?
What makes it different/or alike from other music from other periods of time?

Best Part: Getting to interview Mr. Nueman, and my mother.
Worst Part: Not being able to upload my slideshow i made because of the deadline. :(

Finding the three events from the amount of articles there was to chose from.

i could have have started early and but i finished earlier than a lot of people and met the requirments. i think that i took a long time to finally get my work together but i did finish strong. my design was good it was simple and neat. i do think i could have worked harder on this by starting earlier and asking more questions but i did ok.

10-20-30

The 10-20-30 project was good. The need for the project in my eyes was to teach us the differences about everything back then and how we are now. Like the way we are now is completely different from back then, the music the way we dress the art everything. Now its all about sex drugs and money back then everything has meaning. I didn't have any questions the project was quite easy and fun to do. The best part was hearing the different types of answers and the music, made me realize a lot and where i get my taste from. The most challenging part was the wait, i have no patience and they would make me wait till they thought their answer was perfect and had the best songs. But in the end it wasn't that bad like i thought it would. I would love to do this project again or something similar to it.

Ethnomusicology

The purpose of this project was to find people who were 10, 20, and 30 years older than us. We had to ask them their favorite song from the years 86', 76', and 66'. Once that was done we had to research an event related to African-American history, write a summary about it, and post the link to the article itself. The part I found to be the best about this project was asking my family what their favorite songs were, it was interesting to find out what kind of songs they liked during that year. Music shapes your character in some ways and learning what type people grew up around sometimes shows you what their personality. The events I chose to put into my 10-20-30 were in a ways chosen at random because it was hard to find African-American events that occurred but, I found them to be interesting to learn about and hope others who read my summary and maybe the article like them too.

it is so nice out today. I was starting to get down and drowsy earlier, but as soon as I stepped outside the warmth of the sun lifted my spirits. Spring is coming. Well technically it's here but last week it hailed. Hopefully now the spring climate will stay and not come and go like it has earlier this month. STAY SPRING. STAY. I MISS YOU. I WANT YOU. Peruuu & North Koreaaa

Here is where you can learn about the differences and similarities of Peru & North Korea.

For the benchmark I chose to do Peru and North Korea. Peru is located in South America and North Korea in South East Asia. The process it took was a long one. I thought that it would be a little easier then it was but I decided to go above and beyond and go a little more in to detail then I originally thought I would have to. The way I did my 5 point framework was pretty straight forward. I organized it in a way so that would be easy to follow and then graded both the countries in the end to summarize the entire project. If I could change anything I wouldn't. It was easy just a lot of research.

Quinn: What is Ethnomusicology?
Danielle: Ethnomusicology is the study of music. You can study the time and history of all types of music.

Quinn: What questions did you ask about Ethnomusicology?
Danielle: I wanted to find out, why music has so much history to it. Why did songs have call & response.

Quinn: What was the most fun part of the whole project?
Danielle: For me, i liked searching for songs that i thought had a meaning to that time period till now.

Quinn: What was the hardest part you encountered during the project?
Danielle: The articles were the hardest part. Trying to find an article that relates to Africian-Amercian history and music history.

Quinn: Is there anything extra you wanted people to know about the project?
Danielle: Music has more to do with the lyrics. There is a story in every artist songs, either if its the history or a fairytale there is a story.

Tyanna Pleasant Ethnomusicology

I put a lot of effort into the Ethnomusicology project. I interview three people, my mother, and two of my neighbors. They gave me the songs the liked from their time and the year I asked them for. They questioned me asking what is this for, and what class is it for, and what will I be doing with the information they gave me and where will it be. I told them it's for a history project. We are studying ethnomusicology and its going to be put on a wikispace under 10-20-30 then click on my name.
The best part of this project was going around and asking people about their favorite song. It gave me a clue on what was their favorite Genre and artist at that time.
The most challenging part was gathering the information and putting it together on the wiki in a way by which it is easy to read and understand what it is with no questions asked about it. So that someone can look at it and know exactly what they are looking at.

Mi nombre es Branden Hall. tengo 13 años y soy corto.Yo soy muy comico y inteligente perro se aburre con facilidad. no tengo español habilidades lo siento si mi lío .Mi familia es muy comico y muy loco pero yo los amo.  mi familia es grande, tengo un montón de primos. estamos cerra y nos r eunimos cada fin de semana. 

 

No tengo hermano y hermana. Vivo con mi mama y abuela. Mi casa es muy aburrido, pero yo aprovechar al máximo. libro y pasar teimpo con amigos .Mi amigos are comico y loco hacemos las mismas cosas. yo odio aburrirse y eastar dentro de los sabados.

 

Mi madre y mi padre es por separado. Mi madre es muy seria y mi padre es muy tonto. Yo parecen mi madre. Sobre todo mi madre es gritar a mí. Mi padre es muy muy loco y simpaticos.

 

Mi favouitos los alimentos es una “cheesesteak”. Un cheese steak es un sándwhich carne y queso. filadelfia es conocida de “cheese steak”. Mi dos favoritos es “pizza”. Uaste probalement sabe lo que es una pizza. Mi madre favoritos es queso.

 

En conclusión he hablado de mi familia y mi favoritos los alimentos. Si alguna vez vienen a filadelfia usted teine que conseguir un filete de queso. Adiós

daily story- april 4

Today in class we journaled for a while about the idea of a hero, so I figured I'd post what I was thinking prior to the class discussion.

A hero is a person that saves somebody. You can't be a hero on your own- it's defined by a relationship you have with somebody else. Sometimes a hero is more literal- a war hero, or a passerby stepping in to save someone's life. Other times, a hero is more metaphorical- somebody that has a huge impact on the life of another person. Sometimes people say their mom or dad is their hero, or maybe someone famous that inspires them. In these cases, a hero is someone to be looked up to- someone that inspires greatness in the lives of others. So the question of how you know what makes a person a hero is somewhat complex. A hero is not part of who someone is, it is who they are to another. So the only way to find out if someone is a hero is to talk to the people who know them.

Also, I thought our discussion was really interesting. What I got away from it was that a hero is someone who:
1. sacrifices a lot
2. influences/saves another person
3. does something unusually "good"

The purpose of this project was to interview people 10-20-30 years older than us and ask them what their favorite song was from the decade they were born in. Then we had to find an event that happened in that decade and relate it to African American History.

Questions raised were:
Did the environment the person interviewed lived in affect their song choice?
Does the race matter?
Were the cultures way different?
How did the cultures change over the course of 30 years?

The best part was making the imovies for each person I interviewed, it was fun.
The hardest part was finding an event that related to AAH.
