Fun Convo's (5/2)

There are many people who you can say the standard introductory words to and proceed on with life but there are only a few specific people that you can uphold a out of the blue conversation with about life in general. There are few people who you can remember most events that are taking place in that persons life, and ask that person about them while they enthusiastically tell them to you. I am glad to have found yet one more person like this in my life. :]

The World and You

For my 9th grade english project, entitled "You and the World", we have to blog about something that is going on in the world, or in our own country. I have chosen the topic of climate change and how real it is.

As the human population increases, and the animal population decreases, something else increases. A special something that can make or break the planet we call Earth. And whoa! You guessed it, green house gases. I am sick and tired of those that say it doesn't exists. How can anyone be that naive? How do you think we stay above-30 degrees every year?. Green houses gases of course. Now as that continues to increase, so will the temperature to the point where the next ice age will happen. We've all seen the movies, "Oh it doesn't look that bad." Tell me that when you are living without food, electricity, anything. It's a frozen hell out there. But people are ignorant. "Yeah I'll leave it for the next generation to figure out" At this rate, there won't be a next generation to figure it out. That was just me venting. On to the point.

WE are talking about the here and the now.  Plenty of people are already crying about 2012. Who knows? Maybe the world will end, not from huge tsunamis or catastrophic earthquakes, but from our own acts of greed. Take a good hard look outside your window. All the nice things in life, gone. Hows that for a sucker punch? It doesn't have to happen that way you know. As the saying goes "A drop of water can start an ocean." That isn't happening here. We are going to need billions of people to change their life style, for everyone to unite as one and change for the better. That's not going to happen. Not for a while anyway. In the united states alone, we are responsible for a mass majority of the worlds pollution. Why? Because many many many people are going around living the "American Dream". But they aren't living the "World Dream". That dream keep the world healthy.

Just recently there was a poll concerning how many people in america  actually think that global warming is an actual or serious threat. Here are the results. As you can see, The United States cared even less then they did 2-3 years ago. On the plus side, the world cared just a little bit more, which is a good thing of course.

I cannot stress enough how much people love money. Money Money Money. As kiddish as this seems, take TV show SpongeBob for example. There is this Krab (It’s spelled right) that owns this successful fast-food restaurant in the show. Man does he love money. If you have seen the show, he would literally do anything to save, keep or make more money. It's crazy but it paints a perfect example of how some people actually are in the world. Money Money Money..... let the world end for some money. You never know sometimes.

Now how might this affect us if you aren't already asking or if you already know. Either or, I'm going to state it anyways. This affects us in the future. What! the FUTURE?!?! Yup the future. Hard concept to understand I know, but very true. As our class has recently learned, there are several type of energy that are available to us. Coal, Natural Gas, Petroleum (The stuff we use in cars) Nuclear, Hydro, Wind, and Solar. Each one has major benefits and set backs. But the long term effects and short term effects are what set them apart. That could be the line between too late, and just in time. Lets say we were to straight up use Coal and Natural Gas as our only source of energy. The amount of disaster that would create. We might as well go put our selves in the oven and sit there. Not only will the world end faster, but we would run out of the stuff before then. Lets say we use straight up Hydro, Wind, and Solar energy? They may cost a lot and be time consuming to build, but the long term effects will by us more time to figure out a solution to our predicament.

A good example of a very effective dam would be Hoover Dam located in between the state of Nevada, and the state of Arizona. This took five years to build and cost about 50 million dollar. Note that this was constructed during the great depression. As said before, it cost a lot in the beginning but paid for it self eventually. Hoover Dam powers a majority of the west coast. This includes Most of California if not all. Nevada, and Arizona. With every major success, there is some type of major setback as well. Hoover Dam changed the flow of the Colorado river, but prevented flooding as well. Not only that, but it messed up some of the areas around the Dam killing some things off. Mostly fish and plant life.  I would much rather have a small area of land be destroyed by a dam, then see a world voided of Humans because people are too greedy and not caring enough to accept change when it’s needed.

Another day, another dollar.

Another year, another summer.

Day in the life: Brazil- South American Region

Reflection
When I was 12, I had to worry about the same things that a child in brazil would have to worry about if they are a little above the poverty line. If this is not the case, most children at 12 have to worry about if their parents will ever come home. They would also have the problem if figuring if they have a bathroom that night. I was not really expected to find that sort of information. I would think that brazil had many happy moments. I have learned that a child usually has to worry the most when he or she parents are not around. I expect that at 40, a childs life could be very successful or filled with  lot of sorrow. The reality is, your life can go either way it it only maters how you go about moving forward.

My day

Today I didn't make it in like I thought I would. I spent my day instead with my dad. This morning we went down to Uarts to pay my deposit. While there we ended up doing questions and working on paper work. By the time we got out and had lunch I would have barely been in school for one class period so dad decided I would go home with him. Though I was sad to miss school today I was happy I did. Being around Uarts made me really happy and I am glad I got in there. It is the same happy that I felt when I first came to SLA and I knew it was where I wanted to be. Also another good thing I am becoming friends with a fellow photography major which will help with being there :)

Friend Request

Yesterday, I discovered that my thirteen year old brother had a Facebook.  However, he was not the one to inform me.  In fact, no one did.  I had to learn about this momentous occasion by creeping on my childhood friend's page. Clearly, I am an unloved sister; my brother requested Bryce, but not me.

Why Abuse the Creatures Who Did Nothing Wrong?!?

The project that I am doing is for 9 grade English called "You and the World". Some people in the world don't know what's going on around the world or where they live. All most people know is that there are some issues that are going. People of all ages should know at least some things that are happening if not all, so they can get a clue to what is happening around them.

Throughout the years I have been seeing how people treat the animals that are around them. Many people may say that they love animals but behind doors they are treating them with plain old disrespect. And there are no one around to tell them to stop so the animals can live their lives. So to let people know, what may be going on around their neighborhood, I decided to do my project on animal abuse. I am interested in learning about this topic because i love animals. Then to know how some of them are being treated is tremendously heartbreaking. And knowing that some people don't even care about what's happening to them makes you wonder what did animals ever do to them.

For the past days I have been doing some research on how all kinds of animals are being abused. I found out that the elephants that are used in circuses are chained up 23 hours a day from the day they were young. Also that the animals at the circuses are being poked with sharp objects, beaten, and whipped to do their routines. And that 10,000 horses in the US are being slaughtered for horse meat for Europe and Asia but since the last the slaughter plant was shut down in 2007, the horses are know being shipped to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered. And lastly I found out that if animal abuse continues to go on, in the year of 2022, 22% of the animals will be extinct.

I feel as though animal abuse is a problem that should be taken care of right away before it's too late. Also that animals have the right to live just as well as humans. Lastly, I think that we as humans should take action and speak for these animals because they can't speak for themselves.

I will continue to do further research to how animals are being abused and to why do people abuse animals. I will also find out how people can help them and what they can do. And I won't stop doing research until the people know that they need to help animals.

12 years old, a girl in Taiwan

my life when I was was 12 was basically the same exact thing as a Taiwanese school girl, minus the brushing of my hair, and the girl had a stronger education most likely. I’m not surprised about the amount of schooling they get, however I am surprised about the amount of freedom they have. Health care stays the same with age, and so when she turns 40 she will be in the same situation except hopefully by the time the girl is 40, she will have a job, or have a family of her own.

First Post in a while

Wow writing these...not the best use of my time. I don't understand why we do this everyday because eventually I just run out of things i need. This isn't the  least bit entertaining nor do I have the artistic talent to make anything anyone will ever want to read on their down time. It's pointless for me to probably even post this up here. Sadly I need the credit for the journal today so what I will do is leave you with a quote from portal 2. Actually I am too lazy to look it up. Enjoy the gibberish instead sntauhsontehusanotuhsanoteuhsaonteuhsnaoteuhsaonetuhaoeu

Are You Infected?

In this blog, you will probably have second thoughts about making choices that might affect you in your later years in life. It contains information that is effecting teen’s age 12-19. Hopefully, this blog will change some of the lives of these young people and have them realize that having sex at a young age can affect them physically, emotionally, and financially.

My issue on this project is teen sex and STD's. I strongly believe that in today's day and age, teen sex has become overrated. To some teenagers, it has become the "norm" to have sex. I am really passionate about this topic and I strongly believe that it's a topic that needs to be addressed to children and especially parents whether they have children or not.

STD’s (Sexually Transmitted Disease) are another important issue that are killing the lives of these children. Children as young as 15 are diagnosed with at least one STD. Some even have more than one. Unfortunately, the majority of teens don’t even know that they are walking around these streets with it.

Stats on Teen Sex:

  •  Most sexually active females that are 15-19 years old have partners who are the same age or 1-3 years older (74%). 25% of girls’ partners were 4 or more years older. ·
  •  In 2002, 11% of males and females aged 15-19 has had anal sex with someone of the opposite sex.
  • In 2002, 55% of males and 54% of female’s aged 15-19 had engaged in oral sex with someone of the opposite sex.

·       In 2002, 12% of all pregnancies, or 757,000, occurred among adolescents aged 15-19.

·       In 2006, an estimated 5,259 young people aged 13-24 in the 33 states reporting to CDC were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, representing about 14% of the persons diagnosed that year.

·       In 2009, 46% of high school students had ever had sexual intercourse, and 14% of high school students had had four or more sex partners during their life.

·       In 2009, 34% of currently sexually active high school students did not use a condom during last sexual intercourse.

Stats on STD’s:

Of the 12 million cases, 3 million cases of STD’s are among teenagers. About 13 percent of youth ages 13 to 19 contract an STD each year. The most common STD’s that youth contract are Chlamydia, HPV, Herpes, HIV/AIDS, and Gonorrhea, to name a few.

One in four teenage girls in the U.S. has an STD, according to the Centers for Disease Control. In Wisconsin, the rate of four of the most commonly reported STDs among teens jumped 53 percent between 1997 and 2007. Females and minorities, especially African-Americans, have been hit hard.

I wonder if teens do this for the attention or if they do it because of peer pressure. I also wonder why teens don’t take a stand in what they know is right.

My plan moving forward, is to continue to do more research on teen sex and study STD’s and how they effect the human body.

Love, Blood, Sweat, and Tears! Domestic Violence #1

Me & The World

Loving someone and being in a relationship can be dangerous. You can have heart ache, infidelity, and financial issues. Many problems can occur, but the biggest danger in a relationship is Domestic violence. I’m super interested in Domestic violence because Domestic violence is an issue, and many people look over it and don’t care for the problem.

Domestic violence can harm you physically and mentally, it can harm you so bad, that you stay in the relationship. Some people get addicted and get attached to the violence. Domestic violence can come from any sex, male or female. Domestic violence is used to control your spouse or lover, to dominate the relationship. The abuser likes to play mind tricks, and get you really scared. They threaten you, break things, super hostile, and very aggressive.

I don’t understand how you can you love someone, that harms you physically and emotionally. That hits you and insults you, damage your feelings and make you insecure. Someone that makes you bleed your own blood, and taste your own tears. How come so many women and men stay in the relationship? The abuser is the coward not the person being abused because they need to harm someone to make them feel big about their self.

The scariest part of it all, is that people die from domestic violence. People lose loved ones, they have heart attacks, internally bleeding, stress level to high, and more. Also, the partner kills them, if they feel they are losing power in the relationship. Where is the number and statistics, not many?

3 Worldly Devastations, One Week

I bet your wondering why this blog is even here because of the  sounding title? Well my teacher, Ms. Dunn wanted us to have a view of not only what is in front of our eyes but what is happening in the world also. This blog is dedicated, from my choosing, to Japan and the tragedies that are still going on today.  Each week, we well blog about everything we learn about what we chose.

This week I am focusing on hardening my foundation on what exactly happened on March 11, 2011 in Japan. I'm interested in this topic because it not only effects Japan it effects us too, mentally and physically, Japan needs us to aid them through these tough times. Many of us have families over there. Others have probably just discovered that a little place like that could be that broken. Japan is tough, they can handle three main tragedies and still stick together as a country. Tsunamis, Earthquake, and Nuclear Reactors.

So far, I've gathered some quick facts together. Like "did you know"s? There are three major things on the Prime Minister of Japan's mind right now:

        • Trading

Earthquake and Tsunami Relief
Radiation

Next week, I want to focus on how Japan is making money and how they are trading.

I want to keep up with what the Prime Minister is worrying about and what Japan is doing to help fix this.

Here are the links I looked at that helped me with this blog:

Do You Care About Your Environment? #1

You may already know that this nation is struggling trying to make the environment better for people to live. We are polluting our air and our earth by different chemicals and wastes. We are all in danger for the future because with out a clean earth we wouldn't be able to survive very long. There are many health risks underway and we need to take this in consideration.

For this project I am studying environmental issues. I am studying how things can be

used differently in order to help the environment be a better place for people to live. The reason why Im interested in studying this is because I believe that it is very important to actually know whats going on in the environment. Many things can affect us and we need to know what we need to do to make this place a better place.

In my research I learned about the different effects global warming could have on us and how we will have higher risks in getting different diseases from the toxins that are going around in. I also learned that there would be a high change in the weather because of the pollution.

In order to try to better the environmental issues we all need to make an effort by trying to save all things and try not to pollute the world with trash. It is very important that we do this because if we don’t we will suffer the consequences. We can all help overcome this but we have to be serious and want to make an effort to change.

Gay is the New Black?- Blog Post 1

"Gay is the new black" seems to be the new talk of the town in the gay community. A lot of different issues tie into that one quote. For example, a gay advocacy group called out President Obama for being a homophobic. They also accused him for being responsible for "don't ask don't tell" and the openly gay American Idol contestant, Adam Lambert for not winning the competition. You have issues that "popped off" from this saying that kind of rolled off this issue, like the prop 8 being overturned.
This issue is very important in my eyes. Gays not having their rights reminds me of when blacks were fighting for their rights back in the 1900's. I feel that gay people are not doing anything wrong, they are just expressing how they feel and can't help being gay. Gay people are humans just like everyone else, and can't be perfect. Blacks got discriminated against because of their skin color and gays get discriminated against for their sexuality.
It almost seems to me like it almost hurts some people to see gay people happy. For example, why did they have to overturn the prop 8 law in California? If they want to get married, then they should because they are in love just like a man and a woman would be. People say that "a gay couple shouldn't be able to marry because it is a holy matrimony". However, if they are bringing religion into it, then law shouldn't be related to any of it because that is not aloud.
Sometimes I sit and wonder what is the real pain that homophobics feel. Is there maybe some pain that they feel from other things in their past, or was it how they were brought up. When I say that "they (being people who are straight) have no reason to discriminate", when I have three cousins that are gay and I am used to having to loving a gay person.
When I first heard the statement "gay is the new black", I automatically got offended because I am black. I was thinking how can they compare slavery and black rights to being gay? Then I stopped and thought for a while, back in the 1900's, we had to fight for our rights just like gays are having to fight for the right to get married anywhere they would like to. Also, blacks are still to this day discriminated for our color and gays are discriminated against for there sexuality. I would like to enrich my knowledge and understanding of this quote.
