Negative Space- Tang, Aaron

A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)?

Negative space is images that have no lines connecting. The picture shows that the outer piece of the drawing is going to be shaded which is the negative space. For example, there are white and blue and the white part of the drawing is positive space. The black is negative because of the background. When the image had no lines, it will call it a silhouette.

B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. Your cut out? 2. In your stool drawing?

The cut out as shown below which is the owl. To find out the negative space it, will be the dark blue one. I noticed that the dark blue one is the background of the negative space. The light blue one shows the shape of the owl, and the two colors will show a picture of my image. For my second step of drawing, I drew stools by looking at the view. I drew all the stools with lines connected, but at the end I erase the lines so the picture can be a one unite. I shaded the remainder to make it negative space. The white part is showing the positive space of the image.

C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?

One reason why artist can see in the negative space is giving a visual of the image. The positive and the negative let people identify the picture. Without the details of the drawing, artists can see what it is.

D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not

I think it is because people don't have to draw every little detail. With using the technique of negative space and positive space, it will show a better design. Also, people can visualize the image a lot faster.

Negative Space

A. What is negative space?
Negative space is essentially a reverse silhouette, where every part of an object is left white (or blank) and the surrounding space is coloured a different colour.

B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?

I found the negative space in my cutout by first tracing over the positive portions of the stencil. By cutting the shape of the positive stencil out of a designated half-sheet of construction paper I created the negative and positive needed for my project.

In my stool drawing I first had to draw the outline of the shape. Once it was fairly accurate I created the negative space by shading around the figure.

C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?

It helps to see in negative space because by doing so a person can be more detailed and accurate in forming outlines. Also, it teaches balance of light and dark in a drawing.

D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not?

Seeing in negative space enhances drawings because in using negative space, a person creates areas of rest for the eyes (that's the negative area) and interesting tension (positive).

Learning about Argentina :D

  • Who did I speak with and why did I choose that person?

I spoke with a guy named Francisco who is from/lives in Argentina in a city called Buenos aires. I met this person through livemocha.com. I technically did not choose this person, but I am glad I did because they taught me a lot about Argentina.
  • What did you learn about them? What did you learn from them?

The person I talked to was very nice and they answered all my questions I needed to know about they're country and they also told me about themselves as well. They told me how the streets aren't really that safe and there's a lot of crimes/thefts. As for the education, neighboring countries come to learn in their country. They have a lot of public schools as well. The country of where he is from is where the "Tango" (dance)came from. This guy is also in a rock band  (He's the guitarist) and him and his band play at clubs and events. Overall, this was a nice person to chat with.
  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

It help me learn a lot about the country then what I would learn in a text book or a website on the internet.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I kept the conversation flowing and we had a good conversation overall.
  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)rces to Find Conve

I really need to work on my conjugations. There are a lot of un-conjugated words because I couldn't think on the spot of what they could be.

I learned some things from him. More about him though rather than any spanish.
  • How did this interaction help you move towards achieving your personal goal?

This interaction helped me because it was a great starting place for me.
  • What specifically did you do well according to your goals/expectations?

I tried to talk more about him instead of myself.
  • What specifically do you need to improve on? (Quote specific things you said or did and what you would have done or said if you could do it again)

I need to talk more about myself and stop asking the other person questions.

A. What is negative space (explain this concept to a fourth grader that has never heard of it)
In art, there are blank spaces( as in spaces where the air goes). This is called negative space.

B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out?, 2. in your stool drawing?

In the cut out, I understood that the certain color was negative space. On one side i used that as orange, on the other side, it was highlighted in the brown.

In the stool, I used  space where the air was, that's what negative space is.

C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space?

It helps artists to see negative space because it allows them to have a better composition of their pieces.

D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not

Drawing showing Negative Space enhances the intensity of the the shape itself. However, for detail, I feel it takes away.

1.Whether or not  all pronouns are used,  tu, ustedes, vosotros, etc.

2.Other words are excluded or changed in  family settings/ and other conversations

3.Is conversation awkward when people use different dialects? why/why not?

4. How similar is your way of speaking to what is learned in the classrooms ?

Vos is used in Argentina instead of tu

Vosotros is used in Spain

Argentina: In Argentina instead of using "tu" when addressing someone they use "vos." They essentially mean the same thing. Similarly in Spain they use a pronoun called vosotros which is the plural form of tu. So instead of only having 5 pronouns they have 6.

Spain:  For vosotros  the conjugation often ends in sois. The accent of the people in Spain the use th

Bailey C's Positive + Negative

A. What is negative space? Negative space is the area(s) around an object. You can outline the object, then shade in the wasted area outside of the object.

B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out? I found the negative space by tracing every separate section of the image, and pasting every other section on one side, and the other pieces on the other side. 2. in your stool drawing? To find the negative space of my stool drawing, i looked for the areas around and between the shapes of the object.

C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space? It helps the artist to see the entire shape of the image.

D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not? I believe it does enhance the drawing. I say this because when you see the negative space, the positive space stands out more.
