Weather

"Isn't it nice to be able to say its hot?!"
"No not really..."
"Why not?"
"Sorry but I like the cold cause if I want to be warm I can hide with in my blankets. I also like in between heat"
"But its nice to be hot have the windows open, the balcony door and hav fans on..."
"Eh I guess"
"OH GO MOVE TO ALASKA!"
"Didn't say I wanna be that cold geez..."

Negative Space

1) Negative space is the background of the picture shaded in instead of drawing the picture you draw the background.

2) I found the negative space in the cut-out by seeing which one had more of the background shaded in. In my stool drawing I started by drawing the background shapes then i shaded it in.

3) It helps because they can focus on the outer shape of the object or person more than just the details. I think seeing in negative space enhances the photo because the artist had to work harder to make sure it was perfect. The observers will learn to focus more on the whole picture as one instead of one piece of it.

New Poem

I've gotten into the habit of posting new poems up here. My latest poem is in the perspective of a middle aged resident who has stop caring about the progression of their neighborhood or the people within it (particularly young people). This is a performance piece so I am talking to an audience of young people and then it broadens. Hope you enjoy. :)

You right there in the second row show me why I should care

Show me why I should fight for you

Show me what I lose every time

I decide to give up

Decide to stop fighting

For you

Show me what I have already lost

What I have already given up

Because maybe then I’ll stop giving ya’ll up so easily

The makeshift memorial under their bedroom windows

Isn’t enough for me to feel guilty

The 3 minute segment on the news

Doesn’t pull my heart strings hard enough

Make me feel guilt

Make me feel guilty

That I’ve let drug dealers become our block captains

And crack houses become our community head quarters

Make me feel guilty

That I’ve stopped caring about this community

And the people within it

I complain about teens going rampant

Yet have stopped advocating for recreational places

I shake my head at the trash that riddles the street

But have yet to pick up a broom and sweep in front of my own front door

I’ve turned this into a hopeless place

Because I have given up my own dreams for it

So show me her

Show me him

Show me his homerun that won the game

His MVP trophy overtop the fireplace

Show me her favorite princess dress

And her prancing around in it

Show me the father who never got to see his daughter get married

And the mother who never got to see her kids graduate

Because I know I’ve turned this to a dreamless place

Where kids have no allies

And everybody has stopped caring

Where kids think all they can do is deal and steal

Because hope is passed on from generation to generation

And I have passed on none

So show me the innocent little girl

Who still thinks life is as sweet as can be

Make me realize that she is worth saving

Make me believe she can stopped this hopeless cycle

Help me to accept that she will show us

What happens if we work hard

That you may not reach your dreams

But that you’ll go pretty far

Because her bright light is infectious

I believe anything is possible

When I look into her honey brown eyes

But eventually this “everything is possible” phase

Goes Away

And that is when you have to nourish it

Because once you nurture a living thing

You believe you can do anything

And that it’s worth doing anything

It’s worth creating a blank slate with are streets

Because every piece of trash was just a hope that people thought would never come true

It’s worth painting a visual picture of hope in our community

With green grass and various colored flowers

Because hope is recognized by how we carry ourselves also

It’s worth telling our young ones to strive for the best

Because we’ve realized ourselves they could possibly succeed

Because eventually I want to stop feeling guilty

Not because I’ve stopped caring

But because I realized I have done everything I could

I want to stop flipping on the news and seeing a misguided teen I knew

But never said a word to

And instead see a kid that I know who did something great or didn’t

Because I know I did everything to help that kid

So hopefully there will be no need for me to feel guilty

Sigh

Im dying!!!! this work load is tremendously stupid for senior year. I need to get on trackk...i have to post this benchmark for mr chase that i didnt know where to upload...and as it turned out, i posted it in the place, just under the wrong way. i had posted my story but not as my character so now its on tumblr and its in the right place. if you wanna see it, its here......anyway heres my story for tonight

One day, a scorpion looked around at the mountain where he lived and decided that he wanted a change. So he set out on a journey through the forests and hills. He climbed over rocks and under vines and kept going until he reached a river.

The river was wide and swift, and the scorpion stopped to reconsider the situation. He couldn't see any way across. So he ran upriver and then checked downriver, all the while thinking that he might have to turn back.

Suddenly, he saw a frog sitting in the rushes by the bank of the stream on the other side of the river. He decided to ask the frog for help getting across the stream.

"Hellooo Mr. Frog!" called the scorpion across the water, "Would you be so kind as to give me a ride on your back across the river?"

"Well now, Mr. Scorpion! How do I know that if I try to help you, you wont try to kill me?" asked the frog hesitantly.

"Because," the scorpion replied, "If I try to kill you, then I would die too, for you see I cannot swim!"

Now this seemed to make sense to the frog. But he asked. "What about when I get close to the bank? You could still try to kill me and get back to the shore!"

"This is true," agreed the scorpion, "But then I wouldn't be able to get to the other side of the river!"

"Alright then...how do I know you wont just wait till we get to the other side and THEN kill me?" said the frog.

"Ahh...," crooned the scorpion, "Because you see, once you've taken me to the other side of this river, I will be so grateful for your help, that it would hardly be fair to reward you with death, now would it?!"

So the frog agreed to take the scorpion across the river. He swam over to the bank and settled himself near the mud to pick up his passenger. The scorpion crawled onto the frog's back, his sharp claws prickling into the frog's soft hide, and the frog slid into the river. The muddy water swirled around them, but the frog stayed near the surface so the scorpion would not drown. He kicked strongly through the first half of the stream, his flippers paddling wildly against the current.

Halfway across the river, the frog suddenly felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the scorpion remove his stinger from the frog's back. A deadening numbness began to creep into his limbs.

"You fool!" croaked the frog, "Now we shall both die! Why on earth did you do that?"

The scorpion shrugged, and did a little jig on the drownings frog's back.

"I could not help myself. It is my nature."

Then they both sank into the muddy waters of the swiftly flowing river.

Self destruction - "Its my Nature", said the Scorpion...

Progressive Day

Today I took care of college payments and financial aid stuff. It was relatively easy; which makes me think I did something wrong. I will make phone calls and take care of everything tomorrow, but for now I have a stomach ache and need to rest. It was a big day for me. I woke up at 3 am, went for a hike at 7:30 am, then went to a doctors appointment all the way out in New Jersey, came home for 5 minutes and went all the way out to birdsboro for rock climbing. I was very pleased with my performance in rock climbing. I haven't climbed since the summer and thought I wasn't going to be able to get up at 5.7 or this 5.8 climb, which were always struggles climbs for me. To my surprise I got up them quite well and was using foot techniques to take away the pressure I was putting on my arms. Overall, this day was quite splendid. I got a good amount of physical activity and got my educational shit done (somewhat). HOORAY FOR TODAY!

Alterations

I love my tailer.  Today, as she stuck pins into the bottom of my dress to mark where she would cut, she told me how ugly and slutty the other girls' prom dresses were.  There's nothing like a stranger's opinion to make you feel completely confident!

A day in the life; Cuba

The average 12 year old in Cuba probably begins his day waking up in a house full of relatives. Cuban homes are commonly made up of persons from multiple generations in one family. Many extended family members may live together in a home meant for just one small group. He will put on his school uniform whose color is decided by grade level.

After waking and eating what would probably be a government breakfast made up of eggs and maybe cheese, bread, and fruit (if you're rich) the kid would probably walk to school. The chances are very low that they would drive-- cars are notoriously scarce in Cuba due to the embargo enacted by the United States against the country 50-some years ago. Even if there was a car, it would be a very old model.

Once he arrives to school, and he probably will arrive to school, because most Cuban citizens are given at least an elementary education, he will learn subjects crafted around the idea of country, hard work, and knowledge deemed valuable. He will have to recite the Cuban pledge of allegiance.

After all this, depending on the social standing of his family, the kid will either work or play. If he needs to get groceries, he will do so from a government establishment, and will probably only be able to take home certain goods.

Q4 Proyecto "El Bola"

Happy Easter

It sure was a happy Easter for me and I bet for any of the other Philly sports fans whom enjoyed when all 3 of our major sports teams won their games. And I am talking about how the 76ers stopped the sweep from the Miami Heat, the Flyers escaping elimination from the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a crucial game 6 win over Buffalo, and the Phillies having four wins over the Padres. Also it was a good spring break for me because I helped my tournament Baseball team win on Monday with a Walk-Off home run in the 10th inning.

Negative Space

A. Negative space is the outline of everything you see in the picture, but only filling in the background color.
B. I found negative space in my cut out by the pink because the pink part was the back paper on which I put the cutout on. I found the negative space in my stool drawing by ignoring the outlines and shading in the empty spaces and the parts that I know weren't any objects.
C. It helps an artist to see in negative space because it trains their eyes to not only focus on the details inside the object, but also the details on the outline of it.
D. Seeing in negative space doesn't enhance the drawing because all you see is the outline of the object without any details.

A. What is negative space? a negative space drawling is a drawling that you make by shade in the space around the area.
B. Explain how you found negative space in 1. your cut out? in the cut out the negative space was the dark area in the pic. so i cut that out in put all the negative pieces on one paper with one color and the positive piece on the paper with another color.  2. in your stool drawing? in the stool drawling the around area it is negative and the stool is positive.
C. Why does it help an artist to see in negative space? it help because they can get a better feel for the drawling.
D. Does seeing in negative space enhance drawings, why or why not. it can be because seeing it both ways can how you see which way look better and maybe use both in the drawling.

Negatives, RSHAW

A. Negative space is drawing what there isn't. for instance, if drawing a pen in negative space, then you draw the space around the pen, not the pen itself.
B. I found negatives in the cut-out by cutting out the shapes in one paper, then pasting the opposite color on the opposite colored paper. In the drawing, I found that drawing the outline of the stool, then shading the areas outside of the lines worked well.
C. It helps an artist to look at negative space drawing because it helps them notice things that they didn't notice before.

Art's Negative and positive space..

Negative and positive space is very simple when you think about it. When you draw a picture and you have spaces between the actual main points in the drawing so then you have positive and negative spaces.
I found negative and positive space in the the cut out and in my stool drawing because when you see the actual lines and then the spaces between the actual lines then you see the negative and positive spaces.
It helps an artist to see postive and negative spaces because they see the main points if the art and then the spaces between the actual art.

Negative space

Negative space is the part of the drawing that is uncolored and the outline

I found it in my cut out because I can see the outline of the owl and the stools

It helps because you can see the outline and see it better to make it easier

It helps because you can envision it easier
